Why Does Some Think Python MKII Is Only Being Sold For Early Access?

A detail to note for those who care about status and/or cosmetics... If I didn't overlook something, the 'Stellar' version comes with a paint job not offered separately. If this doesn't change, it will distinguish you in game similar to the Cobra Mk IV.

I'm happy enough to save my money/Arx and wait until the Python Mk2 becomes available to buy with credits. If spending Arx was the only way to ever get it then I'd definitely have a problem, but if other players with more money than patience want to chuck some of their disposable cash in FDev's direction, then that neither picks my pocket nor breaks my back.

Given how these prebuilds are turning out, I can't help but feel that as products they're not really aimed at weirdos customers like me who enjoy outfitting their Corvette with cannons.

As a certified "Play4Fun" type with the odd Arx or 2 going begging, for me the decision was fairly simple - my observations of the Stellar P2 pack were correct, it ain't a gank ship... Of course, with engineering it may be, but my vanilla P2 with ship kit & PJ is engineering up nicely, certainly aimed at a wierdo, just like me!

Early Access is by usual definition unfinished / unpolished content that isn't fully ready for release. Why FD would use this well-established term to interprete a different meaning to it - even if it is a literal take on it - is beyond me.

I might have made an exception if the prebuilds came with an exclusive paintjob or body kit that I really, really, really liked, but they'd have to be something spectacular to convince me to drop tens of thousands of Arx on even one. Speaking of paintjobs, I do think that making the midnight black, gold etc ones available all the time was a good move, even if it was accompanied by eye-watering changes to Arx values.

It should have been released with a Raider kit...
Waddya mean, I'm biased...

And with that in mind, I am looking forward to the tantrums that are going to be thrown on the internet by those who will buy the ship for ARX on the 6th of August by mistake.

My impression, from reading the store page, is that buying the "standard" version of the P2 with Arx still gets you a 0-cost hull, just not any modules to go with it like the Stellar version. So even if someone buys it the day before general release, they're still getting reduced rebuy costs in exchange for their Arx.

It's getting the Python II three months in advance for the price of an...ahem...ship kit by today's standards. Insofar it's early access for ARX, implemented as a prebuilt ship.

Btw prebuilt as in: you would be better off buying the thing from a shipyard, as the modules on the standard are the same E-rated ones you would get from there and your first task as a fresh owner will be getting rid of them asap and fit something better (like, it comes with 2 small pulse lasers, two undersized cargo racks, a 6E shield and an SCA, no utilities, everything else E-rated except the outdated class C SCO FSD and flies like a brick). It only really shines when upgraded, and those prebuilt modules are always in the way with their limitations, so I sold them all.

Same might be true for the Stellar version which may come with better modules, but also prebuilt ones. Plus a ship kit with (how many, 6?) parts you can buy separately and, as the only exclusive item, that special paint job one may like or not (I don't).

They might leave the prebuilt standard Python II in the shop for whatever time they like, but then, it would have no benefits except saving you 67m of credits plus the module prices, that's all.

As for rebuy costs, IdK, as I didn't crash it yet, but once you fit other modules, that zero cost benefit is gone, and lets say 6.7m for the hull (less with LEP) is not something I would truly worry about except at the very very beginning maybe 🤷‍♂️

O7,
🙃

Interesting thought, which I can't support either way as I bought the Stellar pack, then a vanilla P2 to play with loadouts. The rebuy on the vanilla is a little over 12 mill, so no benefit from the 'free' unlock!

Can confirm as I bought the "Standard" pre-built. I deployed a zero-rebuy basic hull with E-rated modules and a Class C SCO drive. It's now sporting none of the stock gear, but my rebuy is still significantly smaller than it would've been, currently in the 1.5m range I think. I haven't found anywhere that stocks different armour for the P2, upgrading that will certainly bump that number up. That said, I don't know if that's because there aren't any armour swaps due to being a special SCO compatible hull, or I just haven't searched enough.

Jameson has the full range, be ready to wince at the price of Reactive Surface Composite (130 mill-ish, I think), I had to draw credits from my FC bank to pay for my spending spree!
Thanks for letting me know. I haven't got to Elite in anything yet since resetting my CMDR earlier this year, so no access to Jameson's yet, but good to know they're out there. Maybe I need to go squash some more Orthruses if I want P2 armour and a fleet carrier....
