Why FD doesn't release information sooner

Hahaha so people arent allowed to post what they actually think? I honestly thought that pic was some user made item and wasnt all thrilled about the idea. Still not impressed with it now that I know its from FD. I am happy to hear the other good news though. The only thing worst than complainers are people intentionally creating threads like this to complain about people complaining...

You're always going to get a degree of negativity with the magic healing spell casting mage. I would have liked it if your wing actually had to pick a frequency so you were all on the same "channel". Would have made wing battles funny if you could be accidentally charging your enemies sheilds :p

I'm a laser expert: how can a laser heal?

It can't.

Sounds like nonsense to me, especially when the core game with its missions and story missing needs fixing.

Yeah, indeed.
Time to give it a rest and wait for the final result, and really try it before taking any conclusions.
They've said many times they want to do it right with this update. Give it a chance.
Oh and, aren't lasers simply a form of energy transfer?
If so, in theory (and with a bit.. ok a lot of imagination) it could 'heal' shield energy reserves.
Agreed about the fixing stuff mentioned a few posts above.
Frontier has mentioned 2.1 will fix a lot of issues, so.. beta will provide proof of that.

I'm not voicing my thoughts on that again, even though I really, really want to.

I think I'm growing as a person. ;)

As I was making a point on their facebook posts.

because people have to complain.
We get a a couple of trillion planets to land on.

"Oh but they are rock and ice, no atmosphere and nothing to do" the doxa claims

well let's just roll on back to pre horizons when you had a choice of two places to land, a slot, or a platform, and you got to see these balls whiz by your ship like little cardboard cut-outs.

remember how you complained there was no variety.......

you get to land on planets, whole entire 1:1 planets. The stations there are wildly more diverse than ANYTHING season1 had to offer.......

but nope. "No variety and nothing to do......" claims the doxa

"too much grind" states the doxa

oh you mean like Elite 1,2 & 3.

bah you can't compare this game to the classics......one person retorted.

Doxa people....doxa.....

One of the things seen in the Elite: Dangerous Beta 1 is significantly more star systems. Many of these have planetary systems around them, formed at much the same time as the star(s) in the system, or captured during the lifetime of those systems.

In Elite: Dangerous, when we are generating a system procedurally, each planetary system is formed from first principles. Bodies are gradually aggregated over a very long simulated time from available matter, taking into account its chemical composition. Depending on the angular momentum, this might begin to form into a single central body, or into multiple co-orbiting bodies.

As the gases collapse together under the force of gravity, matter tends to orbit these bodies in protoplanetary discs, which in turn further coalesces into smaller bodies within those discs. Tidal forces, orbital resonances and gradual accretion of mass gradually change their orbits, causing collisions, collapse and close encounters – which in turn means bodies might capture each other or fling each other into new orbits or out of the system altogether.

At some point the stars in the system ignite one by one, and the resultant stellar winds gradually drive off the lighter non-gravitationally bound gases.
Over its lifetime (different for different systems) close and not so close encounters with other stellar systems may remove outer planets and capture others, and the outer halo of comets and other bodies may pass through the other system, not just causing destruction, but also depositing lighter elements and compounds (like ice/water) on the bodies in the inner system that may have been lost during the heat of their formative years, making water-based life there possible.

The above processes are all modelled from first principles for almost all of our 400 billion star systems by an Elite: Dangerous system called Stellar Forge."

Then add tectonic plates, gravitational compressions, volcano's.....all mapped out, just not being rendered.....like comets.....

Jeez - people are so LINEAR! Releasing The Engineers does NOT mean that work on bug fixes, mission system, BGS, and all the other stuff that people moan about such as smarter AI and so on is not happening as well. Of course all the basic stuff is being attended to in parallel - how come you can't see that? No doubt there will be a new bug or three introduced by this release as well - so what? Unless it is actually game breaking then I don't care because they will be crushed as time goes by. And game breaking bugs have always been addressed pronto by FD. Sometimes in the same day. I guess I am just a glass half full sort of guy - the glass half empty people must be so bankrupt in spirit. Can't imagine life life like that. Be happy folks - we actually have a playable game here that is actively being developed right along with us for the ride. Why not enjoy that? Better than the alternative - waiting forever for it to be perfect.

(I know you're just baiting but whatever...I got some minutes before I'll call it the night.) ;)

I'm a laser expert: how can a laser heal?

It can't.

Well...there is this thing called laser surgery...however that's beside the point since the laser in question doesn't heal anything. It simply boosts the shield. FD never used the words "heal" anywhere in the announcement.

Can you transfer energy with the help of lasers?

Yes you can.

Sounds like nonsense to me...

Ok.

...especially when the core game with its missions and story missing needs fixing.

Missions are being improved upon...as they have been in pretty much every single update. 2.1 will probably feel like a bigger jump though.

The story is there...as intended. Probably not the type of story you are looking for but that was never going to happen.

This, possibly counter-intuitively, is exactly why I feel as I do about the current issue. :)

Well OP what did you expect, this is a game forum, on the internet, the same as every game forum on the internet.

There are a mix of responses, different opinions, that is the whole point of this forum, to discuss the game.

It's like complaining that the sun shines or rain is wet.....it is how it is nothing more.

What do you want....everyone to be joyous and happy, sorry OP you missed Woodstock by 45 years.

Everyone is free to express themselves no matter how grumpy, misguided or wrong you think they are (within the rules of the forum of course).

And if FD doesn't want our opinion then they probably shouldn't develop games and run a forum to discuss that game.

Threads like this are painful and a waste of time.....and yes I'm fully aware of the irony, I'm now complaining about someone complaining about people complaining.....see what you did, if it goes on like this it could cause tear apart the very fabric of our existence...it's that dangerous.

Please someone find a you tube clip of the Monty Python sketch....."I'd like to complain about people who complain!"

I'm so sorry old chap, must have been down in that Area 51 bunker too long, hear of far field techniques? using lasers as carriers for energy transfer? well there you have it, add 1000 years and it will all be ok.

I find it amusing that so many people here get so hurt when someone says bad things about the game.

So do I. It's almost as funny as when people lose their minds and start predicting the end of the world based on a single picture without any actual knowledge whatsoever of what they are insisting will prompt the incoming apocalypse.

As I said to a mate earlier, why waste three weeks of valuable moaning time when people can get their complaints in early. It's also much easier for them to whip themselves up into a frenzy of doom-mongering because they don't have to deal with factual information which may contradict their prophecies.

I have one. How can we see the beams? Here's my hypothesis: what the game calls "lasers" are in fact some form of tightly focused plasma stream and not coherent light. If that's the case then it's also possible that shields use similar technology and so one could use a "laser" beam to constructively feed energy into a shield rather than destructively.

That's not exactly how it works in a thread. You're a part of the discussion, not *the* discussion. :p

You can't see the beams, but they could be superimposed on your screen.

The main reason for this post earlier in the day I was reading an older thread and in it people were saying where are the updates? Read the last news letter comments? Where is the news on 2.1 we want something anything. I made this post to point out one possible and it is just my opinion why. They say anything and without any real knowledge of what it really means and people are complaining. I actually expect when they show off the new graphics (or will it be the old style graphics) from the rings, there will be comments made of. They spent time on that, and not fixing issues. Why do I feel that way? When they showed tire tracks being left as part of this update that many asked for, some of course said why waste time on that and not fixing other things. As I said they can't win no matter what they say someone will complain they didn't fix or work on their priority. Powerplay was that for me. No interest in it then or now maybe ever, but I want them to make it better for those that like it.
