Modes Why I choose to play in Open instead of Solo.

In a month or so's time, I'm going to be flying as RIO for a 64 year old gaming buddy in the DCS F-14 expansion.

Never hear him or other 'old hands' that I play with from time to time moaning when things are set at too hard a difficulty for them to guarantee 100% victory rate in a computer game.

My dad has RA since his 30's. His hands are clawed up like clubs. I still go fishing and shooting with him.

1) NPCs are no challenege and generally any pilot of any skill level is still better than any NPC.

In short: you wont get better by playing against NPCS so that shiny "Elite" rank you got for farming them? Worthless. My granny could beat an npc.

And shes dead.

2)
Despite what the hyporbolic posts lead you to believe: open is generally full of decent players. if you want to fly a hauler with no shields at a CG - frankly..you belong in solo.

3) Even if im trading and not doing combat specific stuff..if there is no real element of danger i get SUPER BORED. Yes..i welcome the gankers. Try gank me. Its part of the game.If i get away i feel awesome. If i dont, i feel angry. But the important thing is i FEEL SOMETHING. I feel NOTHING in solo. ( Except bored and irrelevant. )

Thats all really. Thats my opinion.

It will be interesting to see if im allowed to have it.

1) I prefer exploring and trading to combat, and don't enjoy meeting other players. Your mileage may vary.

2) Open may be fine, but I can guarantee never meeting a non-decent player in solo.

3) The danger in Open bores me. People have different personalities.

Yes, you're welcome to have your opinion, but it doesn't need to be compulsory.

Cheers, Phos.

I clearly wasnt doing that..nor will I now..you literally plucked that weird stance out of nowhere..but feel free to keep trying to push that weird agenda I guess?

Out of "nowhere" was it?

oops, found where it came from.

That point is dismissive of people who cannot cope with NPCs for whatever reason.
So yes you were denigrating them, it may not have been intentional but by stating that NPCs are categorically "no challenge" it's exactly what you did.

Congratulations, you know people whose conditions are not that bad. Good for you.
I know someone who weeps for 10 minutes before they have to stand up because their arthritis is that bad that having to move is the most pain they've ever felt.

Thanks for dismissing my friends suffering in the name of your enjoyment.
I'll be sure to pass on your sentiments that their suffering is worthless as long as you get to push your gaming agenda.

How did that comment go again... I have a sandwich so you cannot be hungry.

I just saw an NPC reverse into an asteroid and explode. Saved me the bullet i guess.

NPCs are terrible pilots these days (post 3.3), to the point PvE combat has lost its appeal. Unfortunately Open combat isn't about whether a CMDR can fly a ship or not but rather whether a CMDR has time to grind super-expensive G5 godships with all the different PowerPlay modules, and that does not appeal to me either. So, I explore instead!

Because that's exactly what I said.

I'd argue with you, whilst trying to explain my point further but you're just going to jam more words into my mouth to further your agenda of making everything into grievance politics with your side as the poor victims, so why bother?

Oh your point and attitude were loud and clear.

You dismissed Commander Danicus talking about actual medical conditions that prevent people from playing even at the NPC basic level.
All because you happen to know some old folks who don't complain about hard games.

Nice to know your old-timers trump people who are nearly blind or in agony every minute of every day.
Let's crack the difficulty right up shall we and force every person with medical issues out of the game forever.
Ill people shouldn't play online games and expect to have a fair chance of winning should they, how inconsiderate of them.

Personal disabilities aside, not all people have the same basic mechanical capacity to manage video games at the same level, irrespective of practice or desire. I would really like to be 6'5" but I'm just not going to get there at my age. It doesn't matter what I eat, how many pull ups I do, or how much time I spend in gravity boots.

NPCs will not provide the same level of challenge for all players. Characterizing players that are challenged by NPCs as less than your dead grandmother is not an effective argument. It certainly portrays a measure of ignorance about the distribution of player capacity within the population of people that play this game. It's a common trope on the forum. If you'd only git gud you could be awesome. If you'd only engineer up, you could run away just fine. Some folks are at their "gudest" piloting through the mailslot or trying to keep 6df orientation in a res zone. Some folks have about 2 hours a week for a leisure activity like this.

Are NPC's too easy for the OP. I guess. Go to a pirate threat zone 7 in your viper. Fly about in a keelback carrying a few tons of gold in a haz res. Go to a high intensity conflict zone in an unengineered vulture. Go to a megaship/installation in a courier and wait for the event (hopefully it won't bug for you). There are NPC challenges to be had if you are up to it.

Denigrating the capacity of other players that do not meet your personal standard is certainly your right within the forums - but it doesn't necessarily raise your stock in the eyes of those that read your posts.

Good thing id never be so stupid as to care about my "stock" in the eyes of those who read my posts then.

As others have mentioned here..you seem pretty keen on making this about you furthering your agenda of making everything into grievance politics so im also out.

Have fun..

So personal disabilities are now what prevent people from clicking solo, or fitting proper shields...

Right.

Never said anything about clicking solo. Was talking about the attitude toward players that might find NPCs a challenge. You don't have to have a disability to find NPCs challenging. My point was the hyperbole the OP was waiting for was already including in the OP (dead grandmother). My follow up was that not all people have the same capacity to engage in the game at the same level.

If we are talking about mode selection, I think you know my stance is either reduce death penalties to encourage more open participation, or offer pve open. Neither of these is going to happen of course.

Making fun of players is never a winning strategy in expanding the player base.

From what I gather, there are people who build ships specifically to be able to go AFK while parked in a RES.

Eg
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/421307-Best-afk-Haz-Res-build

Seems to me your position has no merit if that's even possible.
You don't even have to be present if you build "properly".
A dead grandma can literally do that.

My point is that the choices a player makes are what matter.

I feel NOTHING in solo.

dunno, could that be a symptom of little interior life? i do get along with myself pretty well for a while.

of course i would gladly meet you, too bad that the network is really crappy in open and pvp isn't much an option if you haven't ground your teeth out so i seldom go there anymore. blame the gurus in the white coats and furry animals and their exciting(tm) genius ideas.

I enjoy open the thrill of being able to fight another worthy opponent and spend days if not weeks building a ship to test it against the best of the best is really fun for me...

However
Open Bugs out the game.. If even one cmdr comes in your instance the odds of it borking is good. having several CMDRs in one instance can be weirdly taxing on my i7 and 1060 causing shuddering and general strangeness also the audio will break and disconnects are annoying AF Granted I am in the US so my info has a LONG way to go but I am on fiber with a decent machine I should not be having these strange issues whilst in OPEN play. SOLO is a smooth enjoyable experience with full audio and smooth transitions. Just today we went out into a haz rez to faf about one cmdr kept disconnecting and I would have horrid audio tearing and twice my FPS would tank causing me to have to reboot the game. Also not instancing with wingmates is extremely annoying its always been a issue but these issues where not as prevalent in previous patches and from the start of Beyond they have been getting worse. I play in open when I want to enjoy the high skill combat but the various issues with instancing and the game seeming to break whenever anyone else is there is really destroying my experience. I still play in open but I end up in solo because it keeps either kicking me or bugging out. Its frustrating when you want to fight a guy to basically not instance with him.

Literally had CMDR pull me in my DBS we dropped out and we would not instance..I actually had to friend request my ganker to wing with him so we can stinking fight...It took 4 trys...4 GOSH DARN TRYS!!! And to top it all off we deinstanced twice.. we ended up going to the neighboring system to fight it out.. we should not have to do this...He was cool I can't remember his name now so if your reading this man hit me up I got dual reverb mines now with OC frags >:D

And I have a Decent PC not the best but runs Elite 144-100 fps in empty (no player) instances. I mean maybe its something I can fix but I have heard of others having similar issues..

TLDR Opens Performance is rather bad at times making instancing a issue

Cant disagree with anything there really.

Except my own experiences in open have been pretty solid generally speaking.

I took the liberty of not taking your granny-analogy literally, but as a hyperbole. And yeah, I agree with your post. It's the reason I mostly play in open as well.
But coming back from a huge explo trip and switching to pg or solo to turn your data in is fine as well. I like the excitement of approaching the bubble in open, but I appreciate not everybody else does.
