Why I only interdict Haulers & Type-X ships.

System security forces have to step up if pirates become a major problem. Why would a trader bring in valuable goods if the system forces are useless and the pirates blow up every trader in sight?

Or atleast that's how I think it would go in the lore.

Simple awnser, PROFIT.

why do you think people pay you? ;)

This was made so that cops would instantly attack gankers/pirates as soon as they drop onto the victim and or just in general instantly attack the criminal. You know, Frontiers effort to improve the C&P?

So another example of game mechanics trying (not very effectively) to cope with worse case scenarios with "one brush". Where as if the issues were split out, maybe with a Crime and Punishment system dedicated to mindless (illegal) destruction, that would leave other mechanics to react more appropriately to more situations?

Maybe but this was asked for by the community. ''Ask and ye shall recevie.''

People were complaining about cops dropping in but not attacking the ganker and even scanning the person getting attacked before scanning the ganker.

I wonder if having hatch-breaker limpets aboard (fired or not) might be able to make you a 'legitimate' pirate ..
.. at least in the eyes of the game / mechanics.

Would work until the gankers start adding a class 1 hatch breaker just to take advantage. Better solution would be to implement the declare piracy concept by Lateralus.

The thing is, accidental fire, piracy (non-destruction as should be promoted by the game surely?), and mindless ganking, are all being handled by the same response/mechanics. And we wonder why it doesn't fit.

Take mindless ganking/illegal CMDR destruction out to its own Crime and Punishment system... And then that leaves the other mechanics to worry about the other stuff.

eg: Let the FBI worry about serial killers... And other organisations about lesser issues.

If the Hauler gets killed by you it's your decision. PERIOD. Don't blame someone else, it's just lame...

And if someone shows up to a gun fight with a knife, who's fault is it when the knife-wielder winds up dead?

Open is a gunfight.

Ever see one of these?

Perhaps we need something like this when selecting Open:

If a guy is going to be a space pirate, then the OP's method is the most sound. However, it's still a strongarm robbery no matter how you slice it. But since it's a game and allowed under the current scheme of things, such is life.

But even though it's a "crime" it's not a "reportable" one using the current setting of "REPORT CRIMES AGAINST ME" as it won't pass the filter test. As it is now, interdicting a clean vessel is not a crime, a strange fact to me. And since the exchange between an aggressor (OP, in this case) and the other player is one of "hand over some of your stuff or I kill you" type, it's a robbery under the threat of violence on its face. As such, my idea earlier is sound and contradictions to it claiming the "REPORT CRIMES AGAINST ME" function covers it are without merit.

I think if I were to play on the Open server, I'd keep X tonnes of something valuable for negotiating purposes, but the few times I've been killed in the Open the other side has been interested in thrill killing only and not for any discernible profit, motive, preferring to do "crime" just for the fun of it.

Never said I wasn't a filthy robber.

But breaking the in-game laws against other players is allowed, and not going anywhere.

I'm not trying to say it's anything but. That's why I gave a very literal description of what I do.

I used to be a pirate like you, but i took an arrow in the knee... I mean people started combat logging on me, I've got [redacted] and started killing them all and then open pretty much died.
It was fun though... Sadly finding trade ship in open is really hard these days and if you interdict them they usually just combatlog.

Is it my fault? Despite the multiple opportunities I give him to comply & live? Sorry mate, I say it's the Hauler's fault for getting cocky.

*prepares for salt cannon*

Truth hurts, no?

I usually stay in Open but I know that CG are a prime target for blow-uppers so might switch to Solo for those just so I get some actual progress. I didn't used to think like this but recent experiences have changed my mind, sadly.

[sarcasm]

But what's not to enjoy about being interdicted by one or more CMDRs at a CG to simply be immediately fired upon and destroyed, almost certainly for no in game reason/purpose?

What's not to enjoy about the fact they can in truth just do this over and over and over with the game all but turning a blind eye to it, not for a real reason, or a benefit to the over all game, but probably just because of ill-considered mechanics, or lack of development effort?

Why question if the game should actually hold such repeat (illegal) behaviour accountable so as to reign it in to less "toxic" levels, resulting in OPEN being some what more of an appealling/logical experience for more CMDRs?
