Why is Combat so Boring?

WarThunder is an arcade ww2 plane game, Elite: Dangerous is a space sim with 6 degrees of freedom. These are very different games and for combat to be the way you describe there would have to be many changes to the core game. If you wish for quick fights that are over in seconds and not minutes with an Elite feel I suggest you look at CQC.

Warthunder has an Arcade Mode.
But it also has Realistic and Simulator.
And Sorry. But in terms of Realism. Elite Dangerous is Super Arcade. There is no Realism in the World of Elite Dangerous. Everything is incredible Unrealistic.
Its fine as its an Sci Fi Game. But calling a Game like Warthunder an Arcade and then in the same Sentence saying Elite Dangerous is a Simulator Game is a Joke xD

It all clicked now. Forward and Backward MANEUVERING THRUST. I never even realized that was a thing. Honest. I always thought forward and back throttle were all we had for those directions. Horrible of me, but true.

Now, I mapped Forward and Back Maneuvering Thruster buttons to my HOTAS throttle, and...my god its a WORLD of difference. That iCourier - the one with the Engineered Performance thrusters, That I was having trouble flying against lowly Viper IV's - absolutely DANCES now. Its like a ballerina with lasers and an attitude problem.

This was the missing piece. I always wondering how people did those on a dime turns. The sliding sideways and tail walking their ship right under an enemy. But I never could make it work. And now I know: Its because I was missing an absolutely crucial piece of the maneuvering puzzle.

Question: How did you map forward & back thrusters to your HOTAS? I'm using the X52, I have the other thrusters mapped to the 8-direction hat toggle on the throttle, but I've been unable to find a good button layout on my setup to place forward & backward thrusts.

I've been using the throttle as a replacement for those, but apparently from reading TrueSilver's post, those are grossly inadequate for the true capabilities of the ship.

Just looking to see what other's use for the HOTAS setup that allows for quick, easy, hands on manipulation for forward/backward thrust.

Lol I've played WT from 2012 to 2015 in all modes and I can tell you now if you think WT is a real simulation game then you know nothing about actual flight. Also I didn't call Elite a simulator I called it a space sim, these are totally different things. Knowing the WT community I'll stop trying to educate you as it's a lost cause, go back to your arcade plane game it's where you belong.

Chances are by the time you become good enough to stop jousting, you'll be bored by the fact that the AI is an easy target. Should probably just find another game. [haha]

It sounded like you claimed ED is more Realistic than WT.
And WT is not a Full Simulator for sure lol.
But its much more Realistic than ED :p

I am Playing PvP in WT much more than I do in ED.
Because ED Combat is so incredible Boring.

Sorry Mate.
But ED is very Unrealistic :)

Its not making sense on alot of Occassion.
Just to name an Topic related one.
Weapons Range.
Weapons Range in ED is so incredible Short lol. Nobody would ever Fight at such close Range in Space.
Heck we are inside Atmosphere but our Combat Range is Bigger right now.
Ship Prices.
Ship Prices are super Grind Progression. They make no sense at all towards Cost of Manufacture etc. They are Clearly a sort of lvl.
Crime System.
Crime limited to one System with even if its a Major Faction Ship you Destroy. And you get a Bounty of 5000 Credits for Murder when you Destroy a 200 Million Credits Ship :)
Weapons Placements.
All Ships in Elite. Even Heavy Transports are Frontally Armed. Which makes no Sense at all. Because Long Ships like the Conda or Corvette would be Armed for Side Strafing not for Frontal Engagements. Transports would have all around and likely heavy Rear Weapons to Protect them and Return Fire while Running away.
Ship handling and computers.
We are far in the Future. But the Automatics and Computers of the Ship are handling like 20 years ago. Your flying not only almost fully Manual. But your mostly even Flying on Plain Sight. This is incredible unrealistic. Normally you would likely be almost entirely on Autopilot most of the time in Reality. And you would be Flying with Instruments not on Sight.


This Game is so Incredible Unrealistic about things in General that it hurts.
Its fine. As its a Game.
But pls dont call it a Simulator or Realistic lol.


And it doesnt change that the Combat in ED is Incredible Boring :p
 
The op needs to realize that Icourier is a small ship and 3 medium hardpoints arent much firepower. On the other hand if u got the patience and skill you should use its speed and agility to stay on tail of almost every ship in game.A more armed ship is required to waste target quicker,also it you want quicker fights, res sites and pirates are much faster done then combat zone super ships.
 
There are loads of money, rep and fun on CZs...

Nothing like completely wiping the scene from enemy ships again and again and again. Nothing like taking Corvettes down without getting damaged.


I just wish my Python had that Tie Fighter engine sound like Vipers do :cool:
