Why is player system chat visible in solo?

Perfect example of why we don't get many posts from fdev -

OP asks a question
Fdev answers that question
OP then decides they sisn't ask a question, but it was actually a request for a change

Happens all the time - no wonder fdev are so quiet. Nothing they say will affect the demands (well, except 'ok, we'll drop everything, you are our most important customer even if you did miss the change for the last 18 months')

Anyway - carry on!

Solo is required because of Console MULTIPLAYER is optional and disabled unless you pay a plaform holder fee...
Its also a let over from when solo player ofline mode was still planned for PC.. Fdev don't just dump GUI assets when they make a game they convert them to other uses..

A private group with only you in it is the same thing.

Like I said no need for solo. It's still connected to the online server, just like a private group of your own with just you in it.

by this logic, wouldn‘t Open then just be a Private Group with all players in it?

get rid of Open and have everyone who wants multiplayer join the MP PG.

This isn’t btw my cup of tea but since you’re calling for abolish solo and make former 1-click go login solo players have to setup and multi click PG login, your same logic that open is just a big PG would be ok for abolishing Open.

let me rephrase then to have zero misunderstanding -

a) previously and for quite some time, players choosing to play in solo or private group mode were not subject to general player chat (e.g. Non-direct player to player messages) from outside that mode.

b) it was changed to now be cross modes

c) I can live just fine with current status quo, but would also prefer a filter allowing chat from modes we don’t want instead of the non-ideal tabbed or hide workaround. This would hurt nobody except those that feel somehow less for having their mode chat suppressed in players games who specifically choose to not play in their mode.

There is no mode chat only instance chat, direct chat, and now system chat. Same as there is no solo/pg mode in that sense, it just blocklists. Nothing got changed, just another option to communicate with players got added. Hide it and it's exactly like before.
Oh btw, most systems chatters are from solo/pg, at least in my experience.

I leave system chat on another tab and rarely look at it, precisely because it's flooded with commentary from people I'm probably not going to encounter.

You are not losing a thing.
It's absolutely silly - but from time to time someone complains about gankers... guess the ones that still fall for "send me a group invite because i forgot my DSS" :D

It is not "exactly like before" - if it you think it is, please refute this with specific example of how it was possible please --->

a) if I logged into solo mode, before this general system chat feature was implemented - I was not subject to any player chatter outside of my pure solo mode except direct player to player messages (from friends, etc).

Whether we want to call it mode or other word you prefer, a player choosing to play solo in the selection we normally call solo 'mode' did not have player chat that wasn't directly sent to him player-to-player message spammed across his comm panel. I like all modes and choose the one I want, I'm not a pure solo mode player - but for years when I DID choose to play in solo mode, I was not subject to general spam chat from players. You are saying somehow that core ability to not be subject to other general player chatter we used to have is now the same as current - that's clearly incorrect.

Perfect example of you not reading or understanding the OP, nor the message sent by the dev.

My basic point was previously we did not have general player chatter exposed to players who were in solo mode (e.g. non-direct player to player sent messages) - now we do. And nothing the dev said contradicts that.

Carry on by reading or re-reading correctly.

Weird how most players are in open (apparently) yet most chat comes from solo/pg

I rarely use system chat, and if it's to answer some question or help somebody out. Most people in open use local chat to communicate with the people in their instance. A solo player can't really do that, I don't think npcs answer back.
After experiencing system chat at CGs and other hotspots I have my suspicion that FDev implemented the system chat to show just what "interesting" idea's and language some non-instanceable players have/use.

Hide system chat and it's just like before. The only chatter is from npcs or direct messages from friends. IIRC it even sticks and you don't have to hide it every time you log on. It's an opt-out extra chat. It's a couple of extra clicks to hide/unhide system chat if you want to have it then switching modes, but even in open it is not needed. As far as I know there never was or is a system wide mode depending chat.

More curiosity than annoyance, I can easily set my system chat to hidden (tabbed doesnt really work as messages pile up and trigger UI to spam new messages pop up alert).

was this changed last 18 months or so? I don’t recall when playing in solo ever seeing chat from other players in system.

i play in all modes - open, private group, and solo - but when I choose to be in solo, it’s weird to be spammed with system chat by players that don’t exist in my game mode.
I have mixed feelings about system chat. Sometimes I really like it, but ultimately it breaks my immersion if I'm trying to take the game seriously, as it's basically an FLT & Multiverse Communicator. The good news is you can hide it. The bad news is that even hidden your journal file can fill up with an insane amount of sometimes terrible system chat depending on where you are.

On another note: The announcements from FD about upcoming server shutdowns and such, do they go over the system chat? Because then hiding it certainly wouldn't be an option for me. If not, consider it gone. Going through 80 messages from people begging for FC lifts to Kirre's Icebox a minute is quite a bit more than I can bear.

Sort of. You can't have more than one PG of your own, so if you had a PG you could not then play Solo. Hence the Solo mode. I've never played anything else, and never want to. Horses for courses. I'd get rid of Open mode, personally.
