Why is storage space free?

This is off topic, but has anyone questioned the price of all goods, especially when considering the the weight of said goods as well. What do you get for a ton of say, Imperial slaves?

Arry?

Hmm not really i just started thinking about that now. That i was trying to find out how much CR are probably worth.

Since stations can stuff an infinite supply of Type 9s and Anacondas into their shipyard I'm guessing they also have plenty of room for your ships.

What about a 1t of sardines? I prefer mine with tomato sauce.

Edit: If I remember correct, original Elites had a life support module. Losing that meant a cargo hold of animal meat.

Which meant they were less hassle if you just shot the escape pods.

Arry.

If you want a lore explanation you might suggest the profits the stations make from you buying and selling shios, equipment, ammo, fuel, repairs makes it in the stations interest to provide storage free.

I'd happily pay for additional equipment storage.

Costs of docking, storage etc, would also be dependent of the stations faction, security status and area.

With all of this book balancing, someone may need to dig up, Roberto Cavi, as he may be the only one, who can conceive the scale of the task in hand?

Arry.

I am pretty new to the game but Cargo & module storage is more important for the game I think. As a trader/smuggler always have to sell there wares before restocking. You can't even leave cargo in a ship that has been stored. It would be useful to leave some cargo in a locker/ warehouse/ or in one of your stored ships until a future point. I would not mind paying for this service especially if storage space is at a premium on a station. Maybe you could rent storage per ton for a time period, if you do not return to the station before rental period lapses to renew or take the cargo then the station confiscates it.

there should be a fee. just like with components.
And they should also implement storage for components as well (but not going to rehash that)
Alternatively, if they can't implement storage for parts, ship storage should be done away with altogether. Seems silly that you can store dozens of ships -- for free -- yet not a single part.
