The only "advantage" would be 3d chase camera WITH the hud elements - that would be also totally silly in Elite. Normal chase, fly by cam with out Hud would be pretty cool.
But you're fine with VR and TrackIR which can easily create an unfair advantage and disparity between players?
They're a different issue though and were listed on the tin. You can also easily tell a target's relative position based on the HUD. NPCs at least don't really get out of my sights anyway though.
You see, I'm actually rather particular when it comes to games and things in general. I do my research and get and play the games I want.
If you have a problem with VR and TrackIR, I suggest you address those specifically instead of somehow trying to justify your preference for something by mentioning that you have a problem with something else.
Never said I had a problem with anything. You said a hypothetical external camera could create an unfair advantage .. I asked if you have a problem with VR and TrackIR which can accomplish the same things as an external camera. You seem easily bristled by an argument I'm not making.

The advantage would be so insignificant that maybe even with the hud it would really not make much of a difference, I dont even know, its soo early in the morning and I need my coffee lol
Anyway to the OP - FD made a deliberate design decision to not include this type of view, we will have to stick to debug cam. But I remember something about camera drones in the past - it could be interesting.
The lack of an external view in ED is one of the reasons why it doesn't feel like an Elite game to me, as it was present in the two Elite games before it. What's the point in having great graphics, and cosmetic mods for your ship, if you can't stick it on autopilot and take it all in from an external view like we could in the Elite games of 20 years ago? It's never been about issues with "advantages".
The reason why we are experiencing the game from first person only is the same reason why we are playing Mirrors Edge from first person. Could they have done 3rd person in Mirrors Edge? Of course! It would have been the expected approach even due to it being a "3D platformer", but it wouldn't had been the Mirrors Edge we know.

So many hostile responses on this forum. I get it. You're extremely passionate about your game, but chill out.
Every flight sim I've ever played used 1st and 3rd person perspectives. Being able to view your entire ship does have it's advantages, but so does flying from the cockpit. I would prefer 3rd person if I had the choice, unless I was in VR.
I understand the whole immersion factor playing from the cockpit, but why is there no 3rd person view option?
I doubt it's because of a design flaw, or the inability to provide a playable 3rd person perspective(seeing as there is an option to view your ship from that angle while in flight). I just don't understand why I can't play in 3rd person. Other than it would make fighting and landing a lot easier. We wouldn't want that, now would we...![]()

If you want a different experience you'll need to find a different game.
