Why Not Play Another Game?

How can you underline what has no meaning through your lack of comprehension? It's an issue when you clearly can't express yourself, or clearly you just can't understand all the posts you are reading, yes.

I haven't run out of arguments. The fact that you don't understand them doesn't mean I've run out. Just reread them until they sink in. No need to apologise, just gitgud.

Oh I fairly well understood. And I can only believe you did as well. Just in case you did not let me try. Learning by doing, right?

I don't feel like a hypocrite because my disrespect for fanboyish posts was obvious, and in an cynical fashion I said that calling people fanboys shows my level of respect very well. There's not much not to misunderstand.

We both were disrespectful in that manner, I can agree to that.

Now, what I found strange is that you basically say - and please elaborate if I got you wrong here - that this whole thread here is nonsense. The devs would never listen to complaints, all is just whining, people shouldn't discuss at all. So you commit nothing else but personal offense and disrespect to *anyone* who takes part at the discussion. That's what turned me a bit against you.

Was my English clear enough for you now? Do I have your permit to continue speaking?

Who are you to tell people what to do? But that's the standard fanboi script isn't it, if you criticise my precious you should leave.

Who are you to tell people what to do ?.

I'm happy with my game purchasing choices because my approach to it is much better than yours. I find out about games before buying, instead of jumping in and complaining the imaginary game doesn't exist outside of my head.

Some people want to see this game improve, you don't have to like it. And you are plenty contemptuous other's opinions, I hardly think you are in a position to lecture people about effective arguments.

The ED forum is the single most likely place on the internet to meet an ED fanboy, if that causes you distress don't come here it's a very silly thing to do.

Like buying a game without properly researching it.

Until there's some competition ED is and will remain the only thing to measure the industry standard by.

We have different meanings of industry standard then - mine doesn't mean using game mechanics from 2 decades ago and relates to today's game play. Just because something is new doesn't make it "the industry standard" - the actual standard for almost every other space game out there has been better gameplay - ED decided to stray from that and make everything RNG.

Well... I've been playing more Eve Online now than ever before. And I hate PvP! That's how interesting E-D is right now, even with a full VR setup.

I've been looking at the whole E-D database of systems, bodies, factions etc and the more I look, the more I ask myself.

How could they have taken so much time and achieved so little.

I'd say you need a few games in the same genre to establish an industry standard, otherwise you go with the only one in existence.

What games are you trying to compare ED to ?.

Folks should check out the show over at Sea of Thieves if you think ED has it bad :)

I can't even post in that forum, yet I have eaten over 100lbs of popcorn enjoying the soap opera.

It's NMS all over again hahahaha.

ED forums are a summers breeze in comparison.

LOL I played that - if you register for Xbox App on your PC and do the 14 day trial you can install SoT and play it for free (just remember to cancel your sub!). As it goes, it's hilarious and a ton of fun. The graphics looks great, the ships work really well and I played it for maybe 5 hours. I could have played more if I had friends that had it and I'm sure we would have had a blast but it's a tech demo at best.

You run around collecting gold to buy cosmetics is the premise of the game. So it's attacking skeletons. This is fun at the start because there's exploration to be had with all the islands but as for longevity, when you know all the islands, when you've attacked the same skeletons 100 times, when it's only 4 player coop and after a few hours you have 4-5k worth of gold but a new sail design costs 70k....

Talk about make a game with nothing in it so yeah, I imagine the sea salt is crusting on the barnacled hulls of their sloops ;)

...It's a weird feeling. Desperately wanting to play it all the time, and at the same time, begrudgingly loading it up.

That's the main forum lobby. I think General / game discussion is quite entertaining for a game that's only been out a week or so.

The cyclic hammerings of topics are fun..

Game sucks, nothing to do other than grief, because that's all RARE has left us with, griefing is LITERALLY the only fun thing to do > griefing is killing the game > nothing to do AT ALL > Stop with the griefing already > PvP sucks > OMG all PC players are hackers and cheaters > Where's PvE only mode > this is a PvP GAME ONLY..

Haha it's too funny.

I know ED has had its moments, but, tbh, we do have it much much better.

Just about to get a Taylor Street Barista coffee, and a doughnut and head back in for some more drama.

Cheers!

I heard they thought 70% of the game wasn't in it - just what do people think is going to happen in a beta - that they'll only test 30% of a game? Did they think a huge amount of content would be added and not tested LOL

And wasn't this in Beta for ages? So they were playing the content what did they think would happen when it went live? They'd already done it and and £50 quid as well - what a ripoff!

I agree with OP - Elite: Dangerous has gigantic potential, which is unfortunately wasted by re-inventing the wheel. Many of its problems can be alleviated by first of all simplifying the gargantuan background work that has little surface feedback, and then by actually making a decision if it's a PvP or PvE game, and sticking to it. My impression is 80% of Elite's problems are results of attempts to cater to everyone, which unfortunately falls apart when combined with other in-game systems (like the dichotomy of playing modes crashing upon common BGS).

And I'm afraid the game is too far gone for any revolutionary revamp to be an option.

IMO their mistake is to design the game in a grind to get into PvP typical MMO fashion, without having the high difficulty raiding in place.

Thus we got : modules locked behind mindless repetition of trivial tasks. Given how slow the travel loop is already it makes for snail paced gameplay with trivial content to access/ upgrade modules. Once your drive is all pumped up you find out that there is 4-5 things that have appropriate difficulty.

What should be done instead is : treat PvP as a game extra and focus on fun and challenging (coop) PvE in a typical open world adventure game fashion, like the elder scrolls, the witcher of the far cry series. Have the unlocks flow from playing the fun PvE solo or coop.

Don't give a damn about the time required to fully pimp a ship. Just make it fun and varied. Focus on good missions / scenarios. Play open world adventure games and see how it's done.

Build it and they will come.

Instead if the eternal boredom of the mindless grind.

Speaking of PvP, Overwatch Retribution starts today! Now that's PvP done right IMO, assuming you enjoy the genre as I do.

For FD, grind is new content. They should come up with something different. PUBG is developing new stuff all the time that, while keeping the basic mechanics, change the game immensely. Examples: 3rd person vs 1st person. Forested map vs Desert map (and now a smaller jungle map with brutal CQB engagements).

Oh yeah, actual multi-player teams/squads that work! 4 people in one vehicle, at the same time, driving down a road! WITCHCRAFT!

Edit #4: And stealing other players' stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLHke1RitP0

Except PUBG only has 2 maps, a handful of cars and weapons and that's off the back of over a £billion made in sales. 2 maps? They then sold the game to another company - both of which do nothing to stop the hackers.

Ask yourself this- when they do a massive ban wave, why they don't ban them by their GUID's? They just ban the account, then get 100,000 back in sales from the people they banned who are selling a pair of shorts for £95.

So let's recap here - they made a game with 2 maps (the 3rd map is 1/4 of the size and isn't out yet), a handful of guns and vehicles and it's PVP and that's all they could do with over a £Billion in sales (they've sold at least 60 million copies iirc). On top of that, they do nothing about the cheating.

This is where the confusion lies - we're talking about game mechanics, not genre's. ED is a space game in genre and it does some things very well. But it's a game first and games need to have game mechanics and ED's game mechanics are stuck in the past.

Fictitious tripe, or sourced reality ?.

Nope, sourced on these forums multiple times. 3 of them sold their shares, Braben has the most but owns something like 37% now of his company. The other 2 pretty much sold out. This was public knowledge of course as it's a public company but I'd really have to dig for the links... which I did http://www.lse.co.uk/LiveSharePrice.asp?shareprice=FDEV&share=frontier_dev but the information isn't there now as it was back in Aug/Sep last year and I can't find it

Oh I found it...

That's one of it's main appeals for a lot of people, obscure stuff, learning for yourself and actions having consequences. The mode choice ED offer's is definitely a new thing, and probably the way of the future.

Space games are a fairly large (but overlooked) genre, ED is in the huge open world sub genre (and leads it setting the benchmark or industry standard). The X-games are the property mogul sub genre, NMS is the cartoon one, EVE is a top down 2D factions and intrigue land RTS that just happens to have a space backdrop, and Star citizen is the development hell comedy option.

ED will never rival the X-games for property management, or EVE for huge faction PVP. Neither of those (or their sequels) will ever rival ED for freedom, flight model and scale.

A lot of the people complaining about ED and demanding changes they think will fix it really want a different game entirely, it's just ED is the only space game around so for now they hang around complaining that unsuitable incompatible aspects of other sub-genre's get welded onto it.

You are basically saying not to criticize ED in the gen discussion forum and not to expect something you have paid for to be as you expect/wish. Both of these points are flawed and add little/nothing to the discussion. In all seriousness you would add far more value to this discussion (and by inference most/all others) by not posting in these forums. It is reasonable to say things can be improved, it is also reasonable to expect what you pay for to be as advertised. If the game is so perfect perhaps you should be playing it rather than telling people not to suggest ways to improve it?
