PvP Why PvP is not popular in Elite Dangerous?

There is a difference between being pro-cheating and being against the lynch mob attitude that some have in these forums and on reddit.

Do you know what the PvP Community does when someone habitually Combat Logs? It's very far from a lynch mob and contained wholly within the game.

But why everyone set back, why should those who didn't use such cash-fountains have their game reset?

How is this related to PvP in Elite: Dangerous? Bringing it up was quite the non-sequitur and I'm not seeing how it relates to the popularity of PvP.

Because of the use of exploits in this game being so incredible.

Players had entire module line modifications removed for trying a single "exploit" roll, after Shady released the video. So we have precedent.

You think FDEV would be able to go through every transaction, by every player, over the last 3 years to decide what was an exploit, what was just luck and what was just bad game design?

Na, the only way is to matrix the whole thing. Wipe it clean and start over.

He's contending that only PvPers utilize exploits

The lions win this round:)

Everyone's a winner baby! That's the truth!

Mainly as long as people are happy with playing the game. The OP's question though really has no win. Why is it not popular? Because of a wide variety of reasons. But some people do enjoy it, and that's great.

KOS lists and naming and shaming are both "Lynch mob" class mentalities.

There are tools for reporting players via ED's UI - people should be using that rather than engaging in behaviours that are more than likely going to make matters worse.

If that's how you really felt, why did you lead out with a suggestion that we'd be better off with solo only?

Haha. Its not a PvP only thing for sure. However, i can imagine the temptation to use exploits is higher in PvP due to its competitive nature, but the same could apply to any PvE exploits relating to competitive activities, such as the BGS or Powerplay.

Do they actually lynch the player though? Do you know what a lynch mob is?

It's self policing, private shaming, anything but an actual lynch mob. What it really is though is simple: we don't want to play with cheaters. Since FDEV won't or can't do anything about it we handle it ourselves.

KoS lists and identifying them publicly and privately are just tools to make that happen.

And, believe it or not, sometimes cheaters repent. After a lot of reputation work we play with them again.

If Fdev would develop a spine consistent with other mmo providers we wouldn't be having this conversation. They won't police their own game, take it up with them. Quit blaming the victims for organizing.

It has been proven the result of reporting players in game or even taking the time and care to video it and send it to support, is much like the below picture.

Its certainly a point of view. I do think there would have been a lot less toxicity if the game was single player. Solo games usually have a lot less toxic communities than multiplayer ones, i think most people would acknowledge that, plus it would free the devs up from a lot of work required for the MP side, allowing them to focus on core content more.

However, its not what I want from ED. I always wanted ED to be a multiplayer coop game, which I have. I can also PvP when the mood takes me, although that's rare. Mutliplayer embiggens the game, but at a cost.

So you're finally using the private group functionality that was intended for when groups want to play by their own rulesets? AT LAST. You can all show us how much more popular and better the game will be when people are banned for combat logging - my heartiest congratulations, nobody's had the nuts before

So your argument is because they probably cannot tell who used the exploits that they should either punish everyone or no-one? Suppose I say 'fair enough man': do you then accept the same argument that has been put forward to defend the CL'ers; that because they cannot tell a log from a disconnect no-one should be punished?

Personally I feel both arguments are rubbish and they can probably tell on the balance of probability if both are the case. i.e you disco in combat more than x-times a mnth you're a dirty CL'er and if you made more than x-cash in mission transactions in so many minutes your a dirty draconis exploiter, simple.

Like I said before, this would have been a hundred hours and done for me if solo were all there was to it. I can handle a difference of opinion if that means I'll have a game that engages me for thousands.

And why so thin skinned? What's with all the "toxicity" talk and various negative values?

I honestly do not know what is there to protect in the current state of progression in ED. It is a dull mess with a single measure of difficulty - time invested.

No risk/reward tasks beyond very minimum are present. Sure, there are Thargoids, but why they do not pay?

So, if all game knowlegde can get you is a stupid exploit, what is there to talk about?
If you can make yourself play immersed, then surely do so. I find economy and society present in this game lacking to do so as well. And most efficient activities looking the way they are does not help me in that.

Group/solo is the performance Meta. Other then coming into open to harvest tears, where is there any motivation what so ever to play anywhere besides a mode with literally no chance that something is going to interrupt forward progress in a competitive mmo?
