Why the hate for playing in open?
I'd like some input here as someone who exclusively plays in open. I constantly read while perusing the forums people stating they only play solo or PG and that they won't even bother with open. What's the deal? Are people that afraid of losing their ship and ending back at the rebuy? I get dropping to solo if you can't get a parking spot at a CG or something like that, but to completely ignore he entire galaxy out there seems to go against what this game means.

Hate?
Who talked about hate?
I just don't care for it.

I play games to get away from people and immerse myself in a world without quasi social .
Other humans have nothing I want to add to any game I like. It is quite the opposite.
That is why I stopped playing any type of multi player a long, long time ago.

FDev should not have made solo mode!! I feel it would be so much better if Elite Dangerous had PVP and PVE servers. I Loved playing WOW in PVE where I had the choice to PVP when I wished. Yet still had a open world experience in PVE with many other players. Sadly the only option for me is solo.

But I don't want PvP and PvE. I want open world with proper crime and punishment system. So if humanity have a huge operation against aliens, I could go there and do it together with other pilots with reasonable confidence that most of interfering bandits will be quickly dealt with by superpower navies and militia.

Probably would just result in PVE trolls parking in front of the mail slot in their t9’s etc...

The game just doesn’t seem designed for multiplayer/pvp sometimes. The pace is just so slow. Navy ranks are slow, supercruise is slow, scooping and jumping is slow, collecting materials is slow, the mission board is slow...

When you combine these various frustrations with the risk of getting blown up by some carefree punk in open and setting you back hours of time (even weeks if you’re carrying exploration data) I can see why it isn’t the paradise some make it out to be.

Same response to all the other posts on this topic. Many of us don't like multiplayer games period. With so many of them out there, it's hard to find a game like this that one can just play by themselves. Why do I need real people when there are NPC's? ED is a great option for people like me that just simply hate games with other people. I deal with people daily, this is my escape. Plain and simple...

I thought the exact opposite.
It would have been awesome if ED was designed as an off line solo game from the get go.
The advantages are numerous and I listed them elsewhere,

This is just not true on PS4. Not sure what platform you are on but on PS4 while there are murderhobos it's generally pretty civilised. Long may that continue.

I think that seems to be true of the console market in general. I'm on XBox and in the past two-ish years have only been "griefed" one time...maybe two. It must be the PC crowd.

I think PVP systems would have been a good way to do it. Just 4-6 systems scattered across the bubble that were absolutely dedicated to those who just want some chaos! Easily avoidable for those that don’t (just don’t jump there). It would also serve to bring pvp players together under one roof, maybe they wouldn’t be so butt hurt if they all had somewhere to go... ;-)

I’d be well up for that!

Could use specific signal sources for instancing with friends/teams...

Finding a way of merging CQC into the main galaxy would solve a lot of problems...

This really would be my desire. Currently I have a 400k bounty earned from skimmer kill missions on the same station, what does this mean from traveling in that sustem? Nothing, I can't park at their stations right now, but not a big deal as there are stations at systems all around it.

Said it before many times, ED for me is a solo game diddnt buy it with any intention of playing with others.

I do pop into a PG when in the bubble from time to time but overall I click solo and play my game. Can't say I have any hate for open its just somthing Ive never really bothered with.

I would just like to emphasize that I'm not looking to kill or grief anyone. I simply don't understand how that would improve my desire to play this game. I simply like the concept of the open world and the interactions with players provides so much more life for me than the standard NPC. NPC bounty hunters are meh, but player bounty hunters are a different animal. Having been someone that hasn't been griefed nor done that to someone else I was having a hard time understanding why reading through the forums there seemed to be such a disdain for instancing up open play. It seems to me that more of this griefing play happens in the PC community than the console community and maybe the console will get there with enough time and that will chase me to solo. Only time will tell.

Bugs aside crime and punishment has come up time and again, other games manage it. Although I've not played I've read eve has proper high sec areas.
But this is ED. Emergent gameplay and all that.
The devs love a community story- fuel rats - pirate crews etc. That's what the Galnet submissions thread is for.
It's deeper than some story you don't care about. You might have been part of it, saved by a rat or robbed by gluttony fang etc.

Right. I would consider playing a bandit, if the game somehow simulated it. Most of professions are on the boring side, but I can imagine myself a miner, a trader, and explorer, etc. But what fun is to be a criminal, if nothing in the game supports it and you can do it without risk and other elements of this lifestyle?

They made SJA dial back NPCs on PC ages ago. She made them too good at flying haha

I love playing in open... It's so much fun watching other players jack up their landings... NPC controlled ships are so boring.

As far as the griefers... I've only run into one on a CG hauling cargo in my unarmed AspX.. once he started being a jerk.. I saved and dropped to solo. Once I got to my destination and unloaded my cargo, I moved back to open.

There is that too. One of game advantages is that it can be played for 20 minutes, or for 3 hours in a row - and why would I coordinate my precious time with others? However, arguably, if the game was single player, I would already finish and forgot it. After all there is nothing for my main commander to grind for anymore.

As is the story continues and things change even if not in creative or impressive ways. Also, I don't mind people around if the are motivated by game engine to behave realistically, and even if solo I don't mind, generally, to advance some collective goals if I like them. Not that I see many right now.

I fly in PGs because I want to interact with like-minded folks without having to watch my back all the time.
It comes down to a simple line...

I am not your game content

Another reason for flying in Solo or PG is screenshots. You can't take high-rez screenshots in Open.

It helps if you have the format as PNG rather than jpeg.
