Why would someone do this?

That person didn't break any of the game's rules. Disabling somebody's thrusters is mean, but it's perfectly allowed. Neither naming and shaming nor doxing them is an appropriate reaction.

IMO players that intentionally set out to ruin someones day should be called out on it, especially if done in ways like this.

Community consequence.

I agree, like many of Frontiers stances I don't understand this one at all. If you are going to be a dbag then you are bringing your bad name upon yourself. I don't understand why Frontier would want to protect these people.

We have only the OP's word that this is what happened. N&Sing is wide open to abuse.

Edit: That's probably not clear—I wasn't questioning the OP in this case; just that generally it's open to abuse.

It's because people (like OP) could just post peoples names with some story about how they were wronged and get people mad at them.

Tumblr doing this stuff to people IRL is bad enough, please don't drag it into my internet space ships.

Single player. Anything can happen out in the open, even occasional madman or some cruel Commander.

I would honestly do that for fun or if a trader didn't drop cargo. And you wasn't greifed, you simply got ganked. Come back and say someone is grefing you when the same guy doee it to you for the third or fourth time...

And it makes conolete sense not to kill someone and just disable drives if you want to pirate. It makes bounty management less costly. No wanted status means less interdictions by feds and players. As a pirate you want to keep a low profile, so you can focus on finding a weak target with expensive goods in the hold.

I suspect he was after your cargo. There is currently absolutely no reason to kill you. You don't drop any loot if destroyed. He blew out your engines so you couldn't run, then probably tried to blow out your cargo. If he got you down to low health without causing you to drop cargo there is no benefit to him finishing you off. Any more shots trying to get the cargo from you could kill you and cause a larger fine with zero upside. It could be he was just doing it for the lols, but could also be the game mechanics where there is no reason to kill someone without a bounty. The game encourages a criminal to leave you adrift.

i would agree with you if cargo was taken, from reading the OP i don't think any was.

Until they fix it or put in a better player based bounty system I think everyone trading in Open should just use kurush task kill script, it seems like Frontier has made it pretty clear that this is the wild west and they aren't big on punishing exploits. Protect yourself however you can until they show us otherwise.

There isn't a whole lot he can do to force him to dump his cargo, best bet is to scare them into dumping them, especially considering how you're more likely to break the adder before you hit the cargo hatch enough to force it open.

I already do this to avoid being cargo scanned. They should probably fix that.

Was just about to to move from the Adder to Cobra tonight. Rushed home from work to play excited that if i hurried i could maybe make the 100k i needed before bedtime and purchase the Cobra. I was carrying 100k (of my 200K credits) in cargo and got jumped by "CMDR <redacted - please do not name and shame>" who pulled me out of supercruise. He opens fire immediatly. I think he may have targeted my thrusters on purpose with the intent to leave me stranded but alive as he did. Either way he takes me down to 5% with disabled thrusters and flies away leaving me stranded but alive, forcing me to have to self destruct and costing me hours of lost play time i had in the value of my cargo.

That leaves me with a couple of questions.

1.) Why not finish me off? Was this to avoid a bounty or some penalty?

2.) Was this a child gettting kicks on be a griefer?

3.) If it was not a child, what kind of grown man would get any pleasure out of griefing someone for no gain?

4.) Did it make him feel good or tough to cripple a hauler in his fighter?
This is just a part of what makes this game horrible to play.
