Why would someone do this?

Cos he's a gonk that's couldn't win at Eve Online.

Spreadsheet Quest isn't a game that takes skill as much as it takes 1. *LOTS* of time 2. *LOTS* of cash (real cash) or 3. Both.

Not to mention if you're honestly that peeved at some guy who disabled another player's engines in ED then you should probably *NEVER* play EVE because it's at least 100 times more meaner, soulless and unforgiving.

Why would someone do that in ED? Because they can. As long as you're not violating the ToS/EULA/etc. then here is no right or wrong way to play the game.

As has been pointed out by numerous people already...that's why it's called Elite *Dangerous.

These threads about what terrible human beings players must be because they killed someone for no reason are downright comical. Is this really the first online game ever for some of the players here?

This whole thread is nothing but a personal attack and smear campaign against someone who did nothing wrong within the rules and mechanics of the game despite your attempts to apply real world morality to fantasy, which is a clear indication of a mass disconnection from reality going on.

Pssst.... I think they're all older folks from Euro Truck Simulator. Let's just tiptoe quietly away...

Was just about to to move from the Adder to Cobra tonight. Rushed home from work to play excited that if i hurried i could maybe make the 100k i needed before bedtime and purchase the Cobra. I was carrying 100k (of my 200K credits) in cargo and got jumped by "CMDR <redacted - please do not name and shame>" who pulled me out of supercruise. He opens fire immediatly. I think he may have targeted my thrusters on purpose with the intent to leave me stranded but alive as he did. Either way he takes me down to 5% with disabled thrusters and flies away leaving me stranded but alive, forcing me to have to self destruct and costing me hours of lost play time i had in the value of my cargo.

That leaves me with a couple of questions.

1.) Why not finish me off? Was this to avoid a bounty or some penalty?

2.) Was this a child gettting kicks on be a griefer?

3.) If it was not a child, what kind of grown man would get any pleasure out of griefing someone for no gain?

4.) Did it make him feel good or tough to cripple a hauler in his fighter?

What system were you in?

ya, obviously we all disagree so I am out. Dbags will continue to defend dbags and call everyone who likes pvp against an actual challenging target a carebear while they continue only picking on those weaker than themselves. Adios.

Except you didn't spare him. You forced him to self destruct. That's not roleplay. It's a bull response to try and not make yourself look like such a dbag. If you wanted to 'spare' someone you wouldn't shoot their thrusters out so they can't even FSD out of the system.

If you wanted to dissuade players aligned with faction X from displacing your preferred faction Y, shouldn't you be allowed, within the rules of the game, to use whatever means necessary to achieve this?

Also...

Reported for deliberately attempting to shame and create a hostile crowd towards a member of the community by name. What a jerk you are.

Only dbags I see around here are those making assumptions about others, personal attacks, and calling people dbags.

I agree, like many of Frontiers stances I don't understand this one at all. If you are going to be a dbag then you are bringing your bad name upon yourself. I don't understand why Frontier would want to protect these people.

OP: sit down comforably, put on so e nice meditationmusic on your spotify, rrelax, takes deep breaths and repeat: htfu hftu htfu

Wow—normally agree with most of your posts, but this is a somewhat disappointing post. Not all who disagree with you on this are "dbags".

Glory be the righteous hammer of my Cephalopod might.

The Empire sent me on a mission this day to sow chaos in the system to achieve a sense of dread. To strike fear into the hearts of pilots that the Empire is mighty and just! Beware the sleeping squids of lore. For they come to eat your fuel. No pilot nor ship is safe from my aquatic heat beams of Imperial justice. I come and go like the ink from my sack. So beware!

So now that this pilot has identified himself as an Imperial radical acting as an enemy combatant in Federation space, and there is no longer a question for the local security (read: Frontier) to verify then I see no reason why it should not, verily why it must be communicated to all loyal Federation pilots that he is to be hunted and exterminated without mercy.

(Since we are roleplaying to justify what may be seen by some as questionable actions, surely this gate swings both ways yes?)

As long as it stays in-game it's fair game. Have at him.

Disabling drives should cause ship to auto-explode same as when FSD or Power Plant is destroyed.

That way the attacker will at least get the murder bounty on him for a murder rather than snaking away and forcing the victim to self-destruct.

Either make disabled drives cause the ship to blow up... or add distress calls or some way, functionality or feature that allows a player with disabled drives to actually get to a dock for repairs.

No hard feelings. I just edited out your name and was hoping it was nowhere in this thread. Shouldnt post when aggravated. I had alooong stressful day at work and was pretty a bit miffed that you cost me half my net worth for no reason. If killing me was part of a mission or something it would have been cool. Really not sure why you did that for no reason and don't have time to read this thread right now, but anyway no hard feelings, BUT i may return the favor if the opportunity presents itself at a later date. :)

Curios though now that you are here to ask.....why didn't you ask for cargo or something.....or at least say goodbye as you left me sitting there smoking a cigarette trying to figure out a way not to self destruct my ship and half my assets?

I wouldn't do it, I'm just saying. Snuffing traders in haulers, really isn't my bag. I can't for the life of my understand why this would have been fun for him. I'd be doing something more challenging, but that's just me.

That would make the auto-repair (auto field maintenance?) mod kind of pointless.
