Why?

Because I enjoy flying a space ship in a simulated galaxy that actually feels as vast as a galaxy should. There are very few games like this in the first place and most of them are very arcady rather than feeling more real. I appreciate the way this game departs from the others in the genre. It is the first game of this type that I've enjoyed in a very, very long time.

A masterly summation Commander! I totally subscribe. Rep +1 as we used to say on the old forum.

I actually hate this game, if it wasn't for the free bananas.....

Cool thread!

Because I'm not being lead by the hand in Elite Dangerous. I'm living a space-pilot's career where all my very own choices have their consequences. Short and long term ones. Good or bad. I'm the blacksmith of my own fate and I'm responsible for my own efficiency in gaining my goals.

Guess one might say: because of freedom!

...plus venturing among the stars that are truly out there, somewhere, far beyond our reach is just magical.

So I'd add to above: because of magic..., and spaceships! ;)

Why are you playing this game?

From what I see being posted by the one guy who still comments on my player group message board, combined with the official ED Twitter, people mainly play to take screenshots of procedurally generated geography. That's fine if it's your thing. Some of ED is visually quite impressive I guess.
