Will Odyssey Change System Requirements?

Hello Reader,

So I have preordered Odyssey because I think this game is worth it, even if my computer can't handle it I am happy to know I will be able to play once I get a new computer. But as I am playing the public test when I am on foot I get around 15 - 30 fps on low graphics, which don't get me wrong is extremely playable and still enjoyable. But I would like to know if after Odyssey is fully released will to become easier to run or harder to run?

Fdev said it wont, that's all we have to go with at this point.
EDIT: apparently they still will be "optimizing" the code.
So there is no chance of it getting better after release :(

EDITED MESSAGE: So there is no confirmed chance of it getting better after release.... :(

There's a big chance on it getting better on release. The way software development works, the optimising pass is always last, and "premature optimization" is an anti-pattern which leads to problems in the code. There is however a chance that it will look worse after release because something would need nerfing, for example some polygon counts on the models or effects quality or whatever. (I'm not a game developer, so IDK much about graphics programming).

Seems good :)

The official recommended specs for Odyssey are quite low:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (above 4 GHz recommended)
  • RAM: 12 GB.
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit.
  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 5500.
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.1.
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.1.
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 60 GB.
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 6 GB.
The CPUs have 6 cores, and only the Ryzen 5 has hyperthreading, so Gamers with an Intel i7 or Ryzen 5 wont need to upgrade.
6 GB Ram is also quite common for many gaming graphic cards since the RX 480 or GTX 1060.

Players with an older i5 (quadcore) or AMD FX CPU would need to update, same if the graphic card has only 3 or 4 GB of RAM (GTX 960, 970, R9 280, 290,...).
But in both cases that's hardware from 2014-2015 that starts to struggle on newer games, even it still runs fine on older games.

Probably explains why I can play it on low graphics around 15-30 fps.
I have a rx 580 and a Radeon R& cpu.

In a blog elsewhere I have seen the following specs quoted:

Recommended (High Settings at 1080p)
  • Intel Core i5-8600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (above 4 GHz recommended)
  • 12GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 5500
  • 60GB available space

Minimum (Low Settings at 720p)
  • Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD FX-4350
  • 8GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 / AMD Radeon R9 280X
  • 60GB available space

That is from:

i use a R9 280 and a Xeon 1231 v2 (Quad Core Intel Haswell with hyperthreading = 8 threads @ 3,4 - 3,9 Ghz) and get 24 fps.
And that's even more powerfull than an PS4 or last gen X-Box.
So if Frontier still want's to port Odyssey to those consolse there is still hope in imroved performance after the release... but I will buy at least a new GFX card ;)

Well, I have an i5 -4670 (overclocked from 3.4 to 4.2 GHz + additional cooling) as CPU and an RTX 2060 for the GPU (fps set to 80 max as I have a 60Hz monitor)
During the Alpha, at 1920x1080 resolution I was getting:-
During the initial rendering at inside a starport about 25 fps.
Moving inside starport 45-50 (approx)
Intra system travel - about 75-80 fps
Outposts - about 50+ fps.
Using the nVidia monitoring, the CPU/GPU load ranged from 52%/50% to 95%/80% - all figures are from memory.
Settings were HIGH for most scenic details.

It's not going to take much optimisation to increase the fps - thought I suspect that the station interiors will be the worst parts - especially when there's a queue of commanders waiting at one of the shops.
I didn't get involved with the group firefights - another possible problem area.

uhm ... hanging here on an oldtimer system
i7 950 gtx 760 12 GB ram and get up to 60 fps in a ship, 15-25 in station and 15 fps on ground in battle.

going to upgrade to a xeon x5690 and a gtx 970. Prices are wild in the 2nd hand market ...

2021-06-01 ... two weeks after alpha release

Well, that's the fastest CPU you can put in most LGA-1366 boards and should keep up as well as one could hope (especially if one is overclocking), but the GTX 970 is pretty VRAM limited in Odyssey, and it's far from a sure thing this will be address promptly, if at all. Prices for anything with more than 4GiB of VRAM that is any good are quite elevated though.

yeah, but what can I do? Currently I'm running in 720p at lowest possible settings with 60 fps in cruise and as soon I get in orbit is eats my fps.
In stations I have like 25 - 30 fps. Battle is perhaps even possible. But I hope the 970 will give some better performance ... (170 euros on ebay)
currently running an i7 950 clocked on 3.68 GHz and an gtx 760. Pretty rough ... :D

Not much, other than keep an eye out for deals on cards of equal or better performance that have more memory.

It will, but not as much as you might expect in video memory limited areas, which will be common in the current build of the game.

Yeah, the new stuff should be a big improvement. If your board and cooling are up to it, most later Westmere-EPs will do 4.3-4.4GHz without much difficulty.
