Will there be more exploration content after Q4?

I hope that once they get the basics in for exploration in the Q4 update that it will be easier to add these things as time goes by.

I don't expect another big exploration update, but at each update they could add other stuff that can be discovered.

*another* big exploration update? Have I missed something?

OP - yes agreed !

Flimley - There are signs the next big thing in 4.0 will be based on atmospheric planets (I wish it was legs !) so that's got to count a lot toward exploration. I mean, what else can you do with it ? Unless it is Legs with atmosphere, in which case it could be boarding ships and pew pew on feet :(

What signs are you talking about?

Given recent developments, the most likely new equipment explorers will get are AX missiles and large Gauss cannons.

Yeah, the latest info we have is that FDev is waiting for the next generation of graphics cards (the ones that just launched) to go mainstream. I'm guessing they're going over the top on atmospheric effects which is great, but it does mean no atmospheres until around 2020.

My guess would be : the next era big paid update they say are working on will be released in 2020 and will be some form of space legs, atmo is far far away and they'll have to drop ps4+xboxone and move to ps5 and next xbox to achieve it on consoles. Just a guess.

Which would be about the right timing ("a considerable time") judging by Zac's comments. So there's plenty of time for a FFF then, seeing as they've only just got started

Don't put words in my mouth. It doesnt do you any favours.

Well, if you're going to be prudent by arming yourself, you need to assume that you may be attacked by humans or aliens. Human weapons do little damage to alien ships and vice versa, and if you're going to go under-armed then you're just wasting power, so you have to take a full brace of both. If you didn't do this then you're making assumptions about not being attacked.

The better question will there be any exploration content in Q4 [big grin]

Maybe the best question is - after Gnosis - will there be any explorers around in Q4? Seriously... :D

Where did this come from? Let's see a link to FDev, thanks.

We already have these. As to being armed when exploring, I am always armed. Its called being prudent.

Genuine question: what's your loadout? Given that AX weapons are not effective against human commanders, and that standard weaponry is highly ineffective against Thargoids, what do you carry?

ANNOUNCEMENT:

We released geyser last year, now we added lava geyser to explore!

Heh, I've put about 80 unsuccessful hours into trying to find geysers/fumaroles/lava so far. Nada. I'm currently searching a planet for geysers during this Gnosis Fail...and hours into it without a hint. We need some science tools, dammit! And scanners that can work below 1.5km altitude.

This. Frontier have backed off two very large parts of Q4. Despite how people want to trivialize. I can't see too much more exploration work because I'm not convinced the developer really even knows how to do so.

And combat has become their bread and butter. So.. do the math, I guess.

Citation needed. This sounds like hand waving to explain why no action is just fine because wouldn't you know its soon. Where have I heard that before?

Frontier deciding improvements can wait for at least 3 years would be delusional. They won't have many people left if they wait 2+ years to get around to graphical improvements. That was supposed to be examples in Q4.

...Maybe they will give you all a Huge Explorer Railgun to quell dissent after Gnosis...

Are you honestly saying, that graphics cards that now handle trillions of Ray-Ops per second, aren't enough? If the RTX series of GPUs isn't enough, what would you consider the point at which Frontier can deliver on their promises? Is this a technological barrier on the consumer side or on the infrastructure side? I'm genuinely curious as to why you added that caveat, because it's something I'm surprised to hear. We have an astounding level of technological progress being made, explaining what barriers you're facing would go a long way to mending the discord from a general lack of openness.
Reply previously was more so of past-tense rather the upcoming generation (and soon to be current) of GPU's.

I interpret that as "The upcoming generation of GPUs can finally handle what we require of them". I presume he's talking about NVidia's Turing (due out this month) and whatever AMD's equivalent is.
