Will you pre-order the next DLC? I will... and that's why:

It's NOT about hating it - although that sure ain't hard - how's 3.3 coming along - all patched up and groovy yet?

No, didn't think so.

It's about the delusion that beyond contained enough stuff that it COULD have been sold as a standalone package, but that FDev decided to be nice and make it FREE.

Beyond was:

FIXING - C & P (lol, you call that "fixed"?) - CONTENT PAID FOR WITH THE BASE GAME
FIXING - Mining (expanding on the woefully inadequate FOUR YEAR OLD placeholder) (5/10 - still needs work) - CONTENT PAID FOR WITH THE BASE GAME
FIXING - Exploration (expanding on the woefully inadequate FOUR YEAR OLD placeholder) (6/10 - still needs work) - CONTENT PAID FOR WITH THE BASE GAME
FIXING - Engineers (lol) - PAID FOR WITH HORIZONS

What's left?

Oh yeah FIXING Guardian sites so it's not such a mindnumbing grind and almost unfathomable activity without a 3rd party tutorial.

err what did I miss?

Oh - Adding some more thargoid varients that live in thier own instances that can be UTTERLY IGNORED.

Adding some admittedly nice new SLF's.

anything else?

New ships isn't content and doesn't count - even less so when said ship is an almost carbon copy of another one, with a different spoiler on the back.

They could have added the ships to the store and I doubt anyone without an LEP would have minded paying a few quid for one.

It's really about time that you accept different opinions and views, including that it isn't necessarily irony when someone says that Beyond added lots of great stuff and brings the game in a better direction than previous updates like Multicrew. If you don't agree with that it's fine, you don't need to. But please don't insist that everyone voicing a different view must be ironic because then you are confusing your opinion with having a monopol on objective truth. It's possible that you missed it, but that's what the post was about.

I think I’ll hold off until after it’s out. The older I get the more I become a consumer first and not just a gamer. I’ve got to protect my time and my money first and then lend a worry about these developers and their content.

You mean you will buy it when last patch of season hits the game? Because pretty much anything else is a preorder.

I hope their atmospherics will have in the fist iteration: Stars/Gas giants/Ice giants/simple lifeless planets.

i dont think the next expansion will be the same model. Frontier admitted that horizons buy upfront on a promise and wait did not really work out.

how exactly it will be developed is unknown. my hope is 1 big upfront expansion that we pay for, then the rest of the updates will just be patches and "story" updates whilst the rest of the team work on the next big thing.

my fear is it will be a series of low cost smaller optional DLCs, however if they go this way it means nothing can be meshed into the game as FD cant assume that because we own module X we will therefore have module Y and Z.. hence i fear it will be a disjoined mess.

fingers crossed for the former. a classic expansion which launches pretty much complete.

If they announce a DLC then most likely yes. Unless its something with "walking around" then most likely no - I will have a hard time to support that in a space ship game like ED.

Given Frontiers record of longstanding unfixed and reappearing bugs a rational person imo would wait for release and see what the reviews were.

Just as a for instance, X4 devs promised trackir support and it was released without it and doesnt seem to be a priority. If i would have preordered id be asking for a refund.

Personally, im not buying any more elite dangerous until they fix some of the long in the tooth and reappearing bugs like wing navlock, assasination mission targets spawing with the wrong tags on them etc.

The newer bugs like the codex not working as designed i can forgive for the moment and i mean just for the moment

Im done making bug reports, they have plenty of those on the same issues, have had every opportunity to act on them, and they have every ability to test the game to see how its working for themselves.

They will get more of my money when they start fixing bugs.

Personally, after seeing how bad this latest release is, and the attention paid to it by the company during a time when most of the playerbase could engage and expereince it, I'd not pre-pay or indeed pay for anything from them again until i'd first seen it released and then gauged how good or bad it was.

With the last release, they proved they do not test, they do not quality check, and then they all trot off on their holidays, leaving the entire player base trying to play around, bad code, bad networking and the usual hundreds of bugs.

For a year that was supposed to be consolidating the game, they managed to create even more bugs and failed to fix outstanding ones.

Nope, they can sing for it.

By your own words, if they delay the release to iron out bugs/issues then that would make them 'liars' in your book for failing to deliver on time:

So, what would you have them do, sollisb?

...
The original Elite used EVERY SINGLE BYTE available - not a single one was left over, not one.

Here's a bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fGujzulsas

No.
I might buy it once its completed and all advertised mechanics are fully fleshed out and in a finished, polished state. But preorder? After RNGineers (basically, slot machine gambling with no currency) as a feature mechanic?
Not a chance.
I'm hoping, by how they released the planet scanning missile thingy, that Fdev are over their insane love of RNG collecting to do anything.

It is funny you should mention X:R as I am on the virge of buying X:R VR edition. (In a sale of course)
...
But things are rarely black and white in this world. End of the day we are the consumer so power is with us.... Pre-order or wait for release or boycott entirely ..... There are good reasons to do all the above
XRVR is great, the Flight Assist Off mode is (imho), better than Elites and there's a lot more exciting things to fly around in space - no planets to land on tho'. Someone modded in the original storyline too (not sure if that's still working).
After reading this thread, I probably wouldn't preorder but if it's atmospherics (more than one type), probably a day one buy for me.
