With new crime system, Friend or Foe modulation shouldn't cost you damage output anymore...

You can only really play combat missions or bounty hunt in Anarchy systems now, unless you want to be ed over by the game -
in a way that costs you a lot of time - real time you can't get back.

I'm aware of people who are in love with this "consequences" thing and they're welcome to their preference.

But this game has always been asinine about counting a few, unavoidable bolts of friendly fire as a criminal offense.
Most other games will ignore those, until your number of hits make it clear that they are intentional.

For some of us, who have limited time and don't necessarily feel like investing it in that sort of game, the changes just curtail options we always had in Elite.

Sure, we could quit... Or we could grind for materials and install a Friend or Foe system into our weapons by way of engineering.

Why doing this should reduce damage output is up for debate. But if you want to play combat missions or do bounty hunting, you now only have two choices:
Play in Anarchy systems only - or install a friend or foe system - in every stinking weapon, no less.

Since that makes their use pretty much mandatory, I say remove the damage output reduction.
Just having to chose Friend or Foe experimentals causes you to have less damage than with say, corrosive shells or any of the other damage enhancing options.
So you get punished by the new crime system for your efforts to avoid becoming a criminal.

This kind of change is exactly why I backed for the offline single player game - its my option if I want to install a patch that's detrimental to my playing preferences or not.

I'd say it is not anarchy at all, and that ship I shot is the police..

Please, try again, this time without the 'I don't have time excuse'.

I have been chased out of a HighRES in a high security system twice since 3.0 released. As soon as I get notified of the crime, I pack up my weapons and high tail it to my local IF contact. I pay the fine, low bucks, and get back into the action. I don't even have to wait out a timer any more. I have gotten fines for firing in the 'no fire zone', and I just used the Anonymous protocol to pay the fine. There is no issue with this.

As long as you don't stick around and destroy any ships, you're good. In any system, Anarchy or not. Much of the basis for your OP is seriously flawed. There is a threshold for FF becoming a crime, that threshold was even increased for 3.0, just because of the new C&P system. FD even went so far as to create a new crime just for this: 'Reckless Weapons Discharge', I believe it's called.

I think we have to stop pandering to the lowest common denominator at some point.

Friendly fire limits have been upped at least once, the crime itself has even been changed.

None of this is unavoidable - it's you - not the game. We can't dumb it down anymore and still have a game.

If you don't have time to play a game, don't play it?

Not sure what you are doing (wrong) to give this statement. Doing combat missions and bounty hunt in any system isnt a problem. Friendly fire limits have been upped 2 times, as far as Im aware, and there is also the thing called situational awarenes aka EyeSight MkI, and lifting the trigger finger if anything gets close or seem to gonna run past you.
3000hrs of playing this game and I havent had a single fine/bounty on me for grazing the police or a clean npc.

The C&P they added now is really good, compared to the one pre 3.0. Loving the consequences.

Play the game, don't let it play you.

EDIT: I'm actually getting real tired of the whining people and their threads saying gimp the game so much down to a click-and-win. Give the game more, harsher, consequences!

I think some folks see all the red symbols in their cockpit and never actually go check the authority contact.

This aspect of the game is exaclty the way local fines were handled prior to 3.0.

Get a local fine, go pay authority.

And it's immediate! you don't even have to wait for H-Jump!

Except your dashboard is all lit up in red hehe

It's called reckless weapons discharge.

If it gets bigger than ... is it still 6000cr ?? Then it turns bounty and you have to get the broker network involved.

I do however think making all projectile weapon F/F smart rounds is not a bad suggestion. It's totally plausable, and would remove a lot of headache.

... and didn't they change turrets to F/F several patches ago anyway?

... also, why is it even a fine to tag another ship in the shields? a minute later and they are back at 100%. Tagging an exposed hull however with kinetic wheapons is entirely a different matter. You're actually taking bits off thier ships and should trigger reckless weapons discharge.

Because the purpose of the shields is to protect from attacks, not from fines.

Thanks for the corrections.

But why does friendly fire in a pitched battle even need an extra, new crime of "reckless weapons discharge"...?

- Its obviously not reckless to be firing in a battle.
- Its also not possible to track every wing's little speedy ships careening into your perfectly well aimed fire.

If they want to call something "reckless" it would have to be starting a fight at all :p

They only time i ever received an unwanted assult bounty is from failing to finish the scan and im careless when im in a res. Anytime i hit a clean ship i get the "watch your fire commander" warning. I have to deliberately fire at clean ships to trigger a response.

I dont see how its an issue
