"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

Offline and "powers" already answered previously...

  1. PC IS their primary development platform.

That's all? I thought you would prepare dozen more quotes? :D

Sorry...that's all the time I have for this today...got to get the kids to bed now and then watch True Detective!

Still waiting on those quotes, [redacted] we don't need you to tell us that.

Almost every game is developed on PC as as such is the "primary development platform" doesn't mean the game is being primarily developed for PC.

Playing devil's advocate here ...

If I say to someone "I'll buy you that fruit juice I know you like." and I go to the supermarket, the only place within my reach that sells this particular fruit juice, and when I get there, it's out of stock. I get back and have to say "I'm sorry, they didn't have any." ... did I lie when I said I would get it?

When Frontier said they'd give us an offline mode, when they thought they could deliver it, and then later on realise they can't deliver it ... were they lying when they said they could deliver it?

Agreed. I wonder how many forum users here aren't like me and just get everything right every time. I guess in that case they have a point. Also I seem to remember that Offline Mode was a request from Kick Starter backers that Frontier said they'd try to implement. Someone pointed me to a link about it but I can't find it now. I may have misread it but I'm sure that's right

People seems to assume everyone's lying these days. Nice position to have, but sorry, it couldn't be father from truth.

Truth is people in development, especially in game development dream big. They always dream big. Heck, David is even accused time to time for NOT dreaming big (comparing to that other guy Chris).

But then reality happens.

And reality turned out to be that they can't get satisfactory offline product out of current configuration of ED. Also - and that's most important - it would waste company resources and would delay rest of ED even more. For a mode they can't sell, mode that would be mererly a shadow of the game.

When David and FD promised offline mode, I instantly feared they setup themselves for a big trouble there - and I was right unfortunately.

"But they promised" you say. Yes, they promised lot of things during Kickstarter - which carried a disclaimer about how all these things can go wrong one day.

Luckly, only offline mode got chopped for real. Everything else at least hinted as coming.

edit: I suggest to follow CIG story how their 'completely private server' turned into 'something that is connected to our systems'.

No, I don't, if it isn't true it's a lie. [redacted]

I totally agreed with you in your other thread to get FD to refocus on the neat stuff that was lined out in the DDA, but calling promises (if they indeed were) that haven't been fulfilled yet "lies" goes too far.

True, God like powers, persistent NPCs and other cool stuff isn't here, yet, but unless you know for sure that they aren't coming anymore the corresponding statements from a year ago are hardly lies.

If the rumor about Tier 2 NPCs in the near future proofs to be correct, I'd see it as a good sign that FD still cares about their plans from the DDA, even though they re-prioritized the individual updates - which they have every right to, don't they? - and bring the DDA stuff after they got out there other updates (PP because it was a personal favorite of Michael, AFAIK, and CQC because it brings the XBox crowd into the fold - which they openly admitted was a big reason for CQC)

As long as they fix the game from broken status to playable and enjoyable status, They could bring naked Barbie's into space I don't care, can't be much worse than PP. Since PP doesn't affect my gameplay in terms of design feature, and as long as any new feature doesn't degrade the current gameplay overall, I don't care it's their gig and they will do what they want. I always hope that new content will be something I can enjoy, but that doesn't always work out either.

As someone who still loves what could be callled the original stated vision of the game and to put the Davids quotes debate into perspective, I spent quite a while replying to criticism of the release by quoting the DDA and devs and reassuring people that features such as USS's, non functioning ship elements, gameplay mechanics that differ drastically from the stated vision, etc etc, were placeholder and did not represent the final feature. I have stopped doing that now because I began to sound like a liar. I believed what I was saying was true but the evidence mounted that it wasn't. I still do quote DB, FD and the DDA but it is more out of some combination of desperate optimism and mourning than conviction.

Did I mention rear view cameras? j/k

I still believe there is a long play here that none of us are privy to.

This year is about growing their market. Get as many eyes as possible on ED so that there will be ears that will listen when they release new major features (especially with added noise from NMS and eventually Star Citizen).

So, just my supposition, but this year will see quick features designed to get people a starting interest in the game. They got us space sim fans a long time ago, now they are trying to attract people who would not have considered this genre before. That leads us to PP and CQC. If the arena takes off on Xbox you can bet there will be a lot more people paying attention to this game and that would be a major success.

2016 is the year of content (DDA). I expect to start seeing some juicy additions closer to the holiday season.

If it is that being announced, in favour of fundamental (long overdue) core game enhancements, I'll quite honestly give up all hope for the game.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on this. New features are great, but right now they really need to work on core gameplay issues first.

I know...just still bugs me to not have a rear port view. I mean, my Toyota has one...sooo :D

Not a deal breaker at all and mostly a joke :D

My greatest fear is that I'll get bored of Elite before I find out what that little screen between my legs is for. :D

This is my secret hope. To my mind it is the only explanation for what FD have done other than the obvious one, which is that ED as an incarnation of any idea I had about Elite IV was never going to happen and was just a way of leveraging a respected but forgotten brand for publicity.

Biggest FD "crime" - and I still think they should have said that around middle of 2014 - was saying that not everything they envisioned will be with 1.0. It would take time to sink that in, but it would make less problems down the road (in my opinion). However, my guess they evaluated situation and decided that it won't matter as such announcement would cause same nerd rage and more toxic atmosphere before release.

Still, if I was FD, I would take that risk - just to avoid people feel bad about hyping game which won't arrive in whole. They intentions most likely has been good, but they mishandled whole thing and unecessary soured release in my opinion (even more than offline mode).

Is that redeemable? Yes, I think so. Despite what you think, we have three big updates with big selection of improvements. Despite you like PP or not, it's big addition to the game and people don't rule it outright, or just play it and admit it has extended game for them. Again, it might be something you don't look forward to, doesn't mean it's bad for game.

Next six months however will be important. For ED to stick it's core elements should be finished - so they really can move forward with pushing extensions out. It's hard to extend core gameplay if there's expansion that plays around it. Well, at least it's extra job.

I personally would like to see updates coming faster, although my geek mind says it's not technically possible.
