Worried

I am starting to worry that all this complaining about. The game it seems at times that Fdev can't seem to get anything right in players eyes. So why would they keep trying so Fdev will not kill the game the players will. I do see some valid points in some of the coments. Most are just complaining about to me seems having to acualy play the game. Me personally I love the fact I may not be done with this game in six months hell even six years that idea exsites me in many ways, because I love playing the game. Their are things I would love to see in the game besides more easy credits and rank. Give me a maket that my commander can acualy use I see things in the market food alcohol performance inhancers that I think why cant my commander use any of this for some sort of small temp buff or the like. Why can't we have a commander trade market where commanders can trade commodities for credits.things like that IMHO would make the game far more interactive.and add to game play more then otherthings. But over all their are many great things in Elite if you just look for them. I love this game and give Fdev credit for their vision of the game. I want to see the game grow and prosper and get better. Good solid input to Fdev can do that constant complaining about the same old stuff will not. With out good solid ideas and efforts from the player base. With out that Fdev is fighting an up hill battle and the true ideas of the game will be lost.

FDev has been given more than enough feedback to improve the game. For years, reviewers and players have talked about the lack of depth in the game and yet the Dev's still haven't done anything about it. Same with combat logging. Even ObsidianAnt brought up some issies with the game and he's the most die-hard Elite player I can think of. People call it a "Wallpaper simulator".

If the complaints seem old, its because they've gone unaddressed for the better part of 3 years now.

Not to mention the volume of place holders and unfinished released "we will add more if people player it" content.
People tried the constructive criticism route, the "just give them time" route...
...and years later some people have started to lose patience.
Mix in the crowd funded game and the "Devs always do wrong" crowd with the "Devs never do anything wrong" crowd and you got your typical video game internet forum.

As far as player to player credit exchange FD has a strong aversion to the "asian gold farming" plague. Which is a bit ironic considering FD sold their majority to TenCent games. So that will never happen.

Revenue stream will determine the longevity of Elite Dangerous.

Companies can have thick skins as long as the profits keep coming in I.e Ryanair.

The problem will come when people stop playing (I.e stop buying seasons, skins and other consumables) and not enough people come along to replace them.

People will stop playing eventually ... everything ends. Forum gripes may put some people off buying, other games come along, tech moves on etc.

But I dont understand all the negatively at the moment.

It's always the same after updates, always the same all the time with moans and gripes.

The vast majority of players aren't even on here so I wouldn't worry.

Just keep playing and buy stuff from the shop if you like.

I'm sure Mrs Ethelred did it on purpose but she bought me an Empire mug. An Empire mug for someone who won't even trade slaves.

I ask you.

Player count has never been higher, sales are strong, reviews are good. They will survive people complaining. Heck, this forum has always been 95% complaing followed by people saying they like a new patch. These people then leave again and we get back to complaining. :)

As long as it's worth developing and maintaining the game Frontier will do so. I hope I'll be able to play Elite even 10 years from now! No matter how much complaining there is on this forum, Frontier will not "get tired" of it until they see players are spending on the game and there are new players. Also, the game is available on three platforms with different communities. The forums don't necessarily represent the whole Elite player base. The game will die when it's not worth doing it anymore, but I think we're very far from that. People who complain still play (and possibly spend), they just want the game to get even better, or even more for their taste. If this kind of "forum hate" would really kill games then I think EA or Ubisoft would not in business anymore. :)

Don't sweat the small stuff. I believe that the FDevs are smart enough to filter the good, thebad & the unglued comments here in the forums. So take heart and don't dispare.

To Infinity & Beyond ....

That's subtle, very subtle. Mrs Oldric, an experienced 'Hoover-ologist' , de-cabled my gaming mouse 'accidentally' shortly after a conversation about 'driving that moon buggy'.

Why are we getting so many "worried" posts? Is it the time of year? Cold spring ? Lack of sunlight? ...... There just seem to be more than usual.

Elite has the potential to be a very long running game, but it will die as soon as some real competition comes along. Right now its only competitors are a pre-alpha vaporware, aging grindfest, and a flopped indie game. Most reviews for Elite Dangerous only praise the graphics and give low marks for the rest. The moment a good Space Sim gets released, Elite will be in jeopardy. And to be honest, SC is a ticking time bomb for that. We don't even know who else is making a space sim right now.

As for the negativity, its coming from the frequent "exploit" nerfs and the relative lack of gameplay. Its unacceptable in 2018 for a game that's been released for 3 years to be this buggy and remain this shallow. When you look at the spread of video games available, this looks REALLY bad.

What compunds the problem further is that FDev haven't said much about the major problems in game, only the minor changes and updates they plan to make. Big topics like gameplay or Combat Logging have been almost completely ignored. Not even a general roadmap for what it should be like. This leaves us with nothing but speculation about where the game is headed, and most gamers don't feel comfortable buying a game with no perceived direction.

Thanks. I needed a laugh. I very much look forward to a day that SC starts ticking. It hasn't yet, and I suspect it is decades away...

I did say the game was not with out faults. But over all I do think their is more good then bad. In the wider scope of the game.

You also said you wanted a player driven economy, which ever added would likely be immediately removed due to the potential for exploit. At which point you'd probably come on here and voice the same old arguments as everybody else.

I love the game, and I do worry about the overall mood over at HQ when there is so much negativity, whether player to player or player towards Dev. That said you cannot knock people or making suggestions just a you have, and you cannot knock people for expressing their displeasure when is comes to aspects of a product they paid for. Speaking with your views and reviews are often one the only powers a consumer has post sale.

Honestly a lot of good suggestions are given everyday, and so few are ever even acknowledged, that while you may still feel encouraged to make them, I imagine in the not too distant future that wasted effort will turn to frustration.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the game though, I love it and hope the devs are encouraged to keep working on it.

Enjoy this game want it to be the best it can be. I am really looking forward to the rest of 2018. Speaking of the ED going to play some before work have some bounty hunting to do. Thanks for all the great replies. o7

Other than SC vaporware the only 'competition' is the upcoming X4, but that's more of a single player game anyways so I don't think it will have an impact. And as well all know, SC is nowhere near release, it's a badly performing tech demo. Still I wish SC all the best and hope it does release at some point. There can never be enough space flight sims.
