Would this make you play Open more?

Decicated engineered combat ships with experienced pilots totally outclass any other non-combat ship in the game. Open players were looking for a bigger challenge than NPCs and stock ships so along comes engineering to up the combat bar. This was by design and I have no problem with it. Enjoy the intensive combat action.

But don't expect an expensive trading ship to be your target until it has the defensive shields and modules to balance this out. This of course won't happen because those same defensive improvements can be used to deaign the ultimate invincible combat ship. Add in the cost of losing a ship as in a trading Cutter with a 40 million rebuy, loss of millions in cargo and mission fines as well as reputation and flying in Open is just too costly for many players.

Nor will C&P ever really fix this as the more that is added the more they effect all players and not just the 'bad guys'. The end result is a separation between PvP combat players and non-combat players just wanting to associate with others. So enjoy the enhanced combat but forget trying to get everyone else playing your game. The separation is too great for simple solutions.

I'm shocked, but I have to rep+.
Well said.

Yes, it is already possible. But improvements to the already-possible should always be investigated and made if it brings an overall benefit.

Or are you happy with using flint and tinder?

I'd be equally happy with all areas of the game being improved. Which is why I agree that segregation of PvP and PvE playgrounds is necessary, as was suggested.

I'm not antisocial in real life, just in online games. I interact with real people all the time, and if or when they try to behave like AHs, they can be dealt with right then and there.

Online computer games allow some people to act out their childish urges with little to no recourse. I am not interested in interacting with them. Period.

If FD ever gets it's act together and separates PvP from PvE I may change my mind. Until then...

Funny, I seem to recall that the more prevalent ‘griefer’ groups, including SDC, started as pirates not happy that players were combat logging to escape dropping cargo or facing the consequences of choosing extra cargo space over security.

As the old saying goes, two wrongs don't make a right. Perhaps if SDC put even 10% of the energy they put into mining salt, they could have shown how piracy isn't that bad, and pirates can be trusted. Instead they added to the number of players mindlessly ganking, in fact, became the main providers of it.

How can anything expect to change in the playerbase when those who want the change most are actively working against it?

Are we talking about those brave enough to fly in open in trade ships, or those who are brave enough to kill trade ships in PvP fitted FdLs? Asking for a friend.

LOL you know what's funny? If ED actually had the equivalent of Zkill boards and we could actually see this supposed "risk" that some of these people are claiming they take as actual records of their actions. I'm quite sure FD already has these detailed records logged somewhere.

Would be interesting indeed if they were to publicize a glimpse of what they actually look like to justify all this "risk vs reward" rhetoric.

You know- exceptions being the rule and all that.

Yes, they do keep logs of that kind of activity.

You can get a total of your player kills from Support, if you ask nicely.

Thanks! Good to know they keep such detailed records. I think it would really behoove Frontier to publicize some average samples (anonymously, ofc to avoid the name and shame thing) in order to justify some of the rhetoric being played out in the forums, Reddit, Discord and YouTube and everywhere else.

Would love to see just how many of these "gankers" are indeed facing equal opposition or how many are simply shooting others for lulz.

Yes, I think that would clear up a lot of the misconceptions.

Open has nothing to offer solo players for in game content, prolly the same for pg players. FD keeps adding more and more for open multiplayers and I have nothing against that. I would like to see more solo content added like the older games. So no, I'll stay in solo and pg.

What, not even hunting Colonel Kurzen in Gankopolypse Now? ;)

I agree though- Open isn't a "sandbox", it's a "litterbox".

I'm just wondering when Frontier plans on cleaning it, most PG/Solo players just avoid the stench altogether.

Here's how a typical pirate interception is looking like. It happened to my T-10 Defender recently. Did I mention the pink hat while being so excited about this sort of "play"?

There's something in your theory I don't agree with, and therefore can't agree with the solutions either.

I don't think escaping is a waste of time.

You avoid rebuy, loss of cargo / merits / mission stuff. In my opinion, that's well worth the time spent escaping.

It's what I do when a dedicated combat ship comes after my pirate ship. It's what I expect traders to do when I go after them.

As to making PvP a player choice in Open - that seems redundant. By choosing Open, you're consenting to whatever goes within the rules of the game, including the chance of encountering players with deadlier ships than yours. If that's not your cup of tea, Private Groups and Solo are perfectly valid options.

I consider escaping to be the epitome of Han Solo gameplay. I don't understand how people think not being exploded isn't a win condition, especially if you're on a trade run or mission. If you get into a scrap, even if you ice your opponent you still lose if you bleed out a bunch of mission cargo.

As to the main topic, I really don't think there's an incentivizing to Open for the most part that will suddenly drag folks from Solo and PGs; they go to those modes because they want to for a whole wack of reasons. System security enhancement neeeeeds to be a thing, to add texture to the galaxy for everyone, but people that just dowanna play with other people aren't going to suddenly show up to Open no matter what you do to it, because there will still be other people.

Hmm, I feel like your video is going to prompt a fair amount of 'advice' from the peanut gallery.
