Would this make you play Open more?

Perhaps for some people. I'm not a fan of PvP in any games. I don't have gold for Xbox (yes, I'm a console gamer, and contrary to popular belief, Elite runs fine on it), so I'm locked to solo. When I had gold I only played with my girlfriend in res sites and long hauling treks. I'm not a people person, pretty much despise most if not all human interaction 😂

That's what many of them do want. That's why the proposal for Open-only Powerplay is so popular with them - they would be put into a game mechanic specifically for players to fight other players to expand their team's Power.

No, their imagining of the purpose of making PP open only is that it will force all the non-PvP people hiding in solo and group doing PP out into open so they would have more targets, if you think they have anything else in mind you are likely wrong. The actual result of making PP open is it will kill PP once and for all because most of the people doing PP will just stop.

A clear picture there. I've done the PP thing to get a few items. Never to the detriment of the faction I joined or others. I have a PP tag on now, if it goes to open only "which I could care less" My tag will be removed and I'll never bother with PP again. ENJOY

PVP should be a toggle, You should be able to toggle it off and never have to worry about it, then I'd use open for more than just resetting the mission boards

Why does it matter if no one wants to play in any specific mode? What is anyone missing out on?

I would like to play open. I'd like to play with other players. It'd create for me a more open and immersive world er.. galaxy. But I hate pvp more than I desire to play with others

Solo is your private beach. Someone over on the public beach wants civilized individuals on the public beach to interact with, because all they have over there is Biff the roid rager and his kids who hit people in the face with footballs then dare them to respond.

"Please come to the public beach, it's relatively rare to get hit in the face with a football, I've only had it happen a handful of times. As long as I stay out of the good sand and clean water area, I don't get much grief from the Biffs of the beach."

"But I have total access to the best water and sand, and as much space as the public beach."

"Yeah but there are a lot of people on the public beach to interact with!"

"No, I think I'll stay on my private beach since I am here to actually experience the beach, not the people on the beach. If I want to meet people I know where the public beach is"

Thanks! Good to know they keep such detailed records. I think it would really behoove Frontier to publicize some average samples (anonymously, ofc to avoid the name and shame thing) in order to justify some of the rhetoric being played out in the forums, Reddit, Discord and YouTube and everywhere else.

Would love to see just how many of these "gankers" are indeed facing equal opposition or how many are simply shooting others for lulz.

The ones I've encountered are obviously not PvPers. They don't want that little "v". They want no risk at all to themselves, so they run in groups and attack single ships that have no cargo and no wanted status. So I don't think we should conflate PvPers with griefers and gankers. Though I'm sure some high end PvPers have participated in select ganking missions, they probably don't get those skills from having the deck stacked insanely in their favor at every interdiction. If they did, they'd be no better than PvEers who have only fought NPCs.

The interesting thing about discussions like this is that Solo is seen as an alternative galaxy. It's not a different experience because it's not a different galaxy. It's the same galaxy, with everyone else kicked out.

The question should be: How can we get a fair play? In the first moment I am doing an easy job with my T-10 in a thread 5 assassination mission. But on the way back to starport I am intercepted by a very few griefers who are magically able to disable most of my ship within seconds.

The same ship that stood a heavy fight. Players do not want to be cannon fodder for the pvp crowd. That's the reason why players avoid open and won't go into open play so soon again. They just do not want to be easy entertainment for wings of overpowered players with magic weapons.

I explain to myself that "space is big". In reality, if you zoomed into a solar system and made your way to a habitable planet, you'd be very unlikely to ever come within 1000km of another spaceship, except maybe at the station. It's not Solo that's empty, it's Open or large PG that's really crowded and full of amazing coincidences.

The pvp itself is fine, even when its totally unexpected...what turns me off personally is the toxic attitudes behind it. If pvp was ddne fer role play purposes, Id be absolutely fine with that and play along with genuine pirates, part of the experience.

Unfortunately, the reality isnt quite as sugar coated and bona fide role players are as rare as hens teeth. I play in open most of the time but always switch to solo in busy areas and CG...just not worth it unless theres some incentive to sit and listen to their drivelling childish taunting. No incentive to put up with that...solo it is.

Ye wanna fix open? Fix the toxicity and that fixes open...anything else is just a bandaid ^

This right here, is actually why alot of people I know refuse to play Open

That would be the result of the changes I proposed (I hope), but more believable in the context of Elite :) If you select "High Security Only" in your navigation options you will never be routed to low sec and you will avoid PvP while still staying in Open. If you wish to avoid PvP AND go to low sec systems then you can do this in PG or Solo, but you will still encounter tough opponents in the form of engineered NPC's who can actually fight. The difference in gameplay style should be minimal between all modes in this case - High Sec is safe, Medium Sec less so, Low Sec is dangerous and Anarchy is crazy.

This is true. As you're approaching Earth (mysteriously labeled as an Earth-like world), the bright light of another ship in SC will completely dwarf the planet. IRL you'd not even see the ship, maybe a feint sparkle in the distance... like a twinkle. Certainly you wouldn't be blinded by even a comet when seeing Earth from that distance.

I stopped playing all multiplayer type games years ago when XBox headsets became a thing and you'd hear nothing but cursing from kids, people eating, talking to their friends or family while playing, giggling for no reason... then all the "I'm a gangsta" kiddie stuff you encounter. It really detracts from the game. In Open, you read it.. because someone is always trying to get their weird on.

But..on those occasions when you have some actual game play with other commanders you just met, those moments are why you keep playing, in Open. I think they try to duplicate that in PG but going there to find emptiness or everyone with lane vision working on solo agendas runs people away as well.
