Would this new computer run Planet Coaster?

Hi guys, excited to be joining here

I'm looking into buying a new PC, and obviously would like to make sure the one that I buy will be able to play Planet Coaster once it's released. I appreciate that min specs haven't been announced yet, but I was wondering if you guys felt like this following PC would be a good fit? https://www.scan.co.uk/products/sca...rsair-ddr4-evga-gtx-950-sc-1tb-hdd-dvd-win-10 [happy]

I know that Elite: Dangerous, which some are saying will probably have similar specs to Planet Coaster, requires a quad core CPU, and that this system I'm looking at only has a dual core - would this be an issue?

Any advice would be really appreciated - thanks!

Hi Mikey. this topic has been pounded to death in a couple of other threads. Use search box top right to locate. Frontier are refusing to even hint about it at the moment so anything we say here is pure speculation.

Everything looks good on that machine except the CPU. I'd go with at least an intel i5 over an i3 unless you're that cramped on the budget.

I'm not sure how reliable scan.co.uk is compared to newegg/amazon/etc, but this appears to be the 'step-up' machine: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/sca...sair-ddr4-4gb-evga-gtx-960-1tb-hdd-dvd-win-10 (mobo specs to that prebuilt gaming machine: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H110M-A/ ) [yesnod]

Later on down the road, i'd highly recommend getting a SSD for your OS or as a storage device., or both! The Samsung 850 EVO @ 250GB is a decent price right now here in the States at 87$ from newegg. MZ-75E250B/AM is the model name of the 250GB model. The 500GB model is 168$ right now (hold off on buying one of those unless you can get a really good deal on them).

I don't know the exact series that you're referring to with ASUS. So will be going out on a limb here... Google is pointing me to http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/laptops/laptops/asus/auction-1042147227.htm (a search for the ASUS model pointed me towards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232427 / https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-G501JW/ )

16GB of ram is your general run of the mill these days, so nothing too crazy there - it's a sweet spot.

The GTX960M 4GB will run nearly all games in really great ultra or high quality. However you might need to override the nvidia panel on some applications to use the dedicated GPU chip. The CPU also has its own dedicated (but weak) GPU.

As for the CPU, http://ark.intel.com/products/88967/Intel-Core-i7-6700HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz - that's a fairly recent CPU from intel. It works well.

If the link above is correct, it also comes with an on-board SSD. That will first and foremost be the largest performance increase over any other piece of hardware.

It's nice overall, a little pricey for a laptop as hardware specs rapidly change for each device over time.

Thanks! that price is in NZD of course. and we pay a little more down under what with the freight costs and all.
I have been considering the surfacebook i7 as well. it's a lot lighter, but the graphics specs are questionable noone is quite sure how the graphics card rates.

I actually have the i7 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD surfacebook. Yeah, it cost me a pretty penny, but simply put - this little device has come in handy so many times to count. it's just as useful as my desktop.

It plays most games well, but i have to force the surfacebook nvidia gpu controller to always use the dedicated GPU rather the i7 GPU.

woah! dude! what a happy coincidence.... will it play planet coaster?? i have been putting off buying it for 2 months, waiting for the PC specs. it's so light i really would prefer it to other models, but PC play-ability is the deciding factor.

I honestly haven't a clue. I generally don't put development-builds on that machine. Let alone, Zac would have my head on a plaque on a wall if i were to start talking of the games current hardware requirements/stability/progress. [squeeeeee][squeeeeee]

Hello.

I'm planning also to buy a new laptop for this game and i wondering if it's better to have an Intel i5 + gtx 970m or an Intel i7 + gtx 960m ?

Thank you for your help and for making such an incredible game !

ah well, thanks. tell Zac it's urgent :)

I am also looking to upgrade in the next few months. I am going for an i7, 16gb, GTX970m and Samsung SSDs... If Planet Coaster doesn't run on that, then its time to throw the towel in.. [noob]

What are we like..? "£40 for pre-alpha that's a bit steep? Oh well, I'll just spend a £1200 more to justify it" [haha]

Amazing advice, thanks so much Brett. Really appreciated. I think I'm going to go for that system you've suggested. [big grin] I'm going to chat to the guys who build the systems and see how much more expensive it would be to upgrade from HDD to SDD. Thanks! [happy]
