Would you be more interested in CGs if...

The double engineered modules type of CG's are very interesting.

Moving the goalposts like they did for the Frame shift drive CG reward from 25% to 75% after the fact however was a very unprofessional and childish move... please never repeat that again!

I believe the OP is proceeding from a false premise. I'm sure many people would care about CG's....if they were made aware of them in the first place.

Maybe I'm missing something but when I log in to the game, I get no message or anything about a Community Goal anywhere. So unless you blunder into a station that happens to have an active one, or scroll the galaxy map for hours and notice a vague symbol (assuming you even knew to filter for such a thing), how would you know?? There's no global chat either, so it's not like you hear about them either.

The complete lack of even a surface-level news/notification system that clues people into what's going on is your real problem here. But there's a large faction that believes any such thing would be "hand holding" or whatever.

You see it on top of the mission board. I agree though, a message in Chat on your first login after a CG started or when th CG starts while you're logged in would be nice. I have the ED companion app on my smartphone alerting me to new CGs, but there we are again in the discussion about out of game 3rd party tools and ingame information.

Right but every time it's blank unless the CG is at THAT station.

How hard would it be to make it so when you click Community Goals a message says "The closest active Community Goal to your location is X system" ??? I mean really guys?

I swear Inara gets paid every time someone is forced to go there for some mundane task that should be in the game lol

Don’t they post them on here as well? I could have sworn that there were Galnet articles for them since I saw them come back with the Marlinist plot line, but I am often wrong...

rewards were crafting materials?
Wouldn't mind it, wouldn't be a justification, though
rewards were modules?
Only if it were something that could be acquired through regular game play, meaning this is just a shortcut
rewards unlocked ships?
No, thank you
rewards granted system permits?
As long as it isn't an exclusive
rewards unlocked engineers?
Iffy, think it would need to be related to the Eng
rewards were lucrative chained missions?
Questionable, because the economy is... problematic
rewards were temporary (week or month long) buffs to trade / exploration / combat bond / bounty payouts?
Handwavium, so, no
rewards were reduction in slf pilot wages?
Also Handwavium
rewards were reduction in Fleet Carrier maintenance fees?
Handwavium hat trick
rewards were access to Power Play modules?
PP Modules should be handled as a broker thing, so, not sure on this

Okay but the OP wanted suggestions, and my suggestion is that he's looking at this all backwards.

He's like someone complaining that nobody showed up to his housewarming party. When he told NOBODY when and where that party was.

And most people don't have Jumpaconda's. Not gonna fly a billion light years somewhere on account of some vague Galnet article. We need the details! I mean it's pretty obvious. I'm sure if you blasted out that people will get some overpowered module for going to X and doing Y, you'll get WAY more people showing up.

That’s the Galnet article that me rushing back from the deep black to fight for the Rebel Alliance, seems a fairly straightforward call to arms in Ackwada...

EDIT: I mean it doesn’t actually say ‘Community Goal’ but that would be breaking immershun, wouldn’t it?

Sir that's a website. It's not something integrated into the game. Why are you making something so simple seem so difficult?

We can jump between stars and break the speed of light hundreds of times over...but can't effectively have ANYTHING communicated to us in our ships? That's not immershun.

It’s an archive of an IN GAME Galnet article, you can even listen to them in the cockpit while you’re supercruising...

EDIT: to clarify, recent Galnet headlines are visible on the main menu screen, and full articles can be accessed from the Galnet tab at station menus or from the right-hand panel in the cockpit, with audio available for while you're doing space things. All in-game, in-universe resources... what more could you want, a handwritten letter from Braben himself?

EDIT EDIT: and while you're here, once you've seen the news breaking in game there's this which tells you the game mechanic specifics, but by the time you've seen Galnet you could have already mooched over to the relevant system mentioned and seen for yourself.

Okay you don't get it so just drop it. People don't know what they can't know. It's very simple. The OP posed a problem, I gave the most obvious face-slapping answer to his problem.
If you're going to insult me with crap about hand written notes from Braben just don't. That's NOT being constructive.

No, I think you're telling me there's no information about CGs in game, and I'm pointing out that I think there is more than enough information given in game to find out for yourself. You clearly don't Galnet, it's the only place I get my news from these days while the real world is so depressing.

I never said there was "no information". I don't believe listening to Galnet to hear some vague story-line about CG's is the best way to inform the community. What about that wasn't clear? The fact that I specifically cited Galnet, but you're still talking down to me like I'm an idiot, tells me you aren't listening or just don't care for another point of view.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree, since you said that Galnet was too vague, whereas the article I cited clearly tells me that something big was going down in Ackwada, which is exactly where the CG was so...

the problem i see with cg is that 10 out of 10 of your proposals begin with "rewards" and 0 out of 10 begin with "challenge", "fun", "story" or "mystery", and folks are so used to it that no one even raises an eye-brow.

enjoy your rewards then, i guesszzzzzzzzzz ....

I vote for mystery, that last one with the megaship, abandoned base and thargoid crashed ship was fantastic and a reminder of why this game is, at times, a scifi nerd wet dream.

Galnet is very vague, boring, an uninteresting.

I know you guys think we're all sitting here content to drift in space and "discover" crap, but CG's are time-sensitive goals of a finite nature. So that type of "immershun" isn't the most effective way to get people to show up.

Again, the OP posed a problem and I'm trying to solve it effectively.
