Quick question. Does X3 have legs?

Just want to know what to expect.

X3 does not. The implementation in XR was by popular request in X3... and a lot of people hated it. I didn't hate it, but because the way the game was set up previously, it felt mostly unnecessary. Though it probably did help with immersion. Via a mod and eventual hard change, it became optional, which I think is a good way to go about it.

I would basically need a whole new PC [woah]

Yes. And maybe it's time.. ;)
Those recommended specs are just mediocre specs anyways.

That GPU(s) of yours is ancient :D

In the old days we had to build a new PC every 2nd year to keep up with the latest games.

No problem. I still very much look forward to playing tomorrow. Way I see it I just have to save for a new system for X4, then I'll be laughing. Again, single-player game, so I'm in no rush to play. It can wait. :)

I should actually clarify, you can get out of your ship in your spacesuit, but the only reason to do so is to manually repair your ship... and it takes a long time without SETA (module that allows you to essentially fast forward the game). It's your option though.

Yeah, true that. I just hoped I could wait for a full release of Star Citizen before I buy a new one :D

( Also, got a watercooled system, my first, and I somehow dread to change the parts. This will most likely get messy, as I was too cheap to buy No-Drips :D )

X doesn't play like a '3rd person game'. It's just a camera view among many different camera views. Switchable to whatever you want, when you want it. In X:Rebirth, there was no 3rd person body view, only ship view and cockpit is default. That might change for Foundations, but I imagine it's still going to be optional. People like these games for a reason and I don't think they like straying far from the formula that works. Now some people might argue XR did by sticking you in one ship, but they either forget or fail to realize the first game in the series was a single ship game too. XR was essentially a series reboot on new tech.

The X-games are all about being a space mogul, that's their thing.

Its not out yet so its too early to tell how it will play. We'll just have to wait and see.

You can't run about, you can however eject in your suit and float about the place to claim abandoned ships. There's also a repair laser on the arm of your suit so you can patch up ships for free, it's a dangerous thing to do though as it takes time and you are very vulnerable.

What about Rebirth? Does that have legs? I'm becoming... Quite frustrated in Elite, being stuck to the chair.

I tried to say it, but I gave up. X4 is not a third person view game, but if people think so, it's better not contradict them.

I can understand.. I'm myself to much of a wuzz to fiddle with watercooling. The thought of water and possibly leaking gaskets close to electronic hardware is frightening :p

Anyways. You might get by with your CPU though(it's within the minimum specs), and get a cheap secondhand GPU. Might prolong the life of your system for some time.
Still not great performance though. But probably playable.

Get an all in one cooler, easy to install, works great and no maintenance (other than dusting, which you should do to your whole case periodically anyway).

Naah, this was really easy. The only thing you have to be actually careful about is to properly cut the tubing. It needs to be cut at a square angle and clean, but with a sharp knife this is no magic. When done right, all you need to do is to fasten the tube bearings ( not sure if that's the right word ) a few days later so everything stays tight.

My system could probably be overclocked to hell and back, I might have oversized the Radiators dramatically :D
But I never really dabbled into overclocking, so there's that-

can't wait for some proper reviews and play sessions to come through

Wait and see is definitely a path I recommend to anyone that isn't a big fan of the series and the dev. X: Rebirth's release was pretty bad and sullied the name of what is now a fantastic game post patches. If I remember to do so, I'll come back and give some comments since I know I won't be able to resist playing it right away.

I've been noticing this on Steam. The base game review of XR are pretty crap, but when I go onto the expansions, they're actually pretty good.

XR was crap yes. It was a ported console game, however, the X3 Series were amazing and this is what X4 is based on.

One amazing thing about the x3 series was the amount of content however you were always looking from the outside of the ship so it never felt like everything was..big. With X4, you are IN the ship. You walk around, you spacewalk all that good stuff. The stations feel big and from what I've seen the systems are huge, colorful, and full.

The game is suppose to release November 30th sooo expect lots of reviews then.
