Hardware & Technical X52 pro Mouse Thruster Request.

Has anyone cracked the firmware or anything to make the mouse hat on the x52 a mappable button? I wanted to use it for precise thruster control in elite dangerous.

I got this to work after much fiddling around. I tested for a bit and immediately went back to using the throttle hat.

Precise it is not :D

yeah I plan on keeping my hat thrusters but I don't use POV so I wanted to change my mouse hat to small boost of thrusters for parking, How did you get to change it?

Indeed, but unfortunately with the precision (or lack thereof) the mini-stick itself, you're not losing out on too much. I don't think I use it for anything at all now.

Yeah... Its retardedly low quality. I think its only a 4 stage 8 way sensor. Its so bad I wouldnt even say that its analog...

Never understood why saitek put these damn things on their sticks. It just drags the overall quality way down (ontop of the fact theyre super sloppy, theyre stupidly inaccurate).

Even their top tier X65f crown jewel has the same sloppy inaccurate little nub, just with a fancy end on it.

My trackball is immediately to the right of the stick and the only times I need a mouse, I'm docked so taking my hand off the stick is not a factor. I reprogrammed the nub for bands to turn it into a 4-way hat and use it to navigate UI menus with keystrokes.

You can change the function to a 2-axis input from the SST software, but yeah I dunno how good it would be. As a Riftless peasant I just use it for rough head look which its ok for.

Change both fields to directional axis, see image

I actually like the nub =/ If you increase it's deadzone to about 15% you get a good actuation point, I'm actually quite accurate with it.

If you run the Saitek Smart Technology software that comes with the stick you can reprogram the throttle to bands or axes instead of mouse x-y. You can also program a lot of other things and use the mode switch to do things like create a flight mode and a nav mode and Gal Map mode and by mapping the buttons to keypress' you can change the buttons configurations, instead of being stuck with whatever FD decides to bind them to. And its free!

Hrm, I dunno then. I accidentally fumbled across this myself whilst fiddling and I do remember it "taking" ingame, as in it read as "axis" in the key config as opposed to mouse x and y.
Oh well, best of luck hope you get sorted

Thanks for all the help guys unfortunately nothing yet. It seems to be a problem with Elite itself. Here is what I did to come to this conclusions.
So I set my mouse nub to direction and gave it the macro of arrow keys.

However ingame pressing the arrow keys on my keyboard activate my thrusters but using the mouse nub does nothing.
Outside of game the mouse nub works perfectly fine as arrow keys.

This is strange since ED is registering the keys but refuses to use it.

That is why I ended up having to use Autohotkey - and then realised it wasn't worth the bother :D

I dunno though, If the mouse nub could work as an axis it could be very useful for parking when you want small thrusts. For those of us that enjoy making landings as smooth as possible =]

Exactly my thoughts. People say the mouse nub is to inacurate but in my opinion it just takes some time to get used to.
And maybe you have to be quite fine with your thumb movement but thats ok for me.

I really hope there will be the possibility to map that mouse axis to lateral thrust.
Until then i use it with the "bands" option.
