X55 Rhino Button Layout with Reference Card

Hey Spacecube,

Cool - glad to hear it is all working for you. Hopefully you can find some adjustments to suit you well based off what I have done. Everyone is different so I expect a lot of people will swap some controls around :) I certainly have many many times lol

With the Mode Switches that didnt work, are you able to advise which ones? I'm just curious, as another user said the same with one of the mode switches. He remapped it to the same key combination again, applied changes and it work. Not sure why that happens but perhaps it is the same ones each time and I can put a warning up for those downloading the profiles.

Cheers!

So my Rhino just arrived and I'm wondering if anyone's replaced the plates on the throttle with new overlays that match their bindings. The right side pops right off after removing the screws. Have to figure out how to remove the guards to get the bottom one off. Looks like a piece of acrylic with a translucent white coating over the entire piece with an opaque black coating on top of that. Seems like something that could be reproduced with custom labels at a not-too-outrageous cost. I'm planning to look around my area to see if I can find someone who can make new overlays for me but, if someone's already found a vendor, that'd save some legwork.

Greetings ED community! I have been meaning to share this with everyone for a while, and finally got around to putting it all together.

v1.0 - Initial Release!

Aussiedroid. The nipple control for thrusters does not seem to be working correctly. Down does not work, and the other seem to be mixed left/up and right/down. Any insight? I installed the reg tweak, etc.

Hi jgtown,

I've been through this whole thread before and I don't think anyone has every brought that up! Great idea but don't think its been done before. If you find anything suitable please share with the group. Might even look at changing it myself. :) Even a clear acrylic would be cool, then people could just use their printers to print their own commands and place/stick under the acrylic cover.

Hi LaveDrac,

Sounds just like mine! To be honest its the crappy analog control not the mapping. Who know what Saitek were thinking with installing such a poor thumb stick there - terrible design. From my playing around up isn't directly up (likewise down is a bit of a strange angle) and it is next to impossible to get a single direction. You should be able to test it inside windows (should see all directions move). If you play around you can eventually get the single direction but not reliably. I mainly use it just as a backup in combat when I need to get out of the way (Quick up or down etc) and not too fussed where. I use the digital thrusters on the joystick hat when I need the accuracy. Sorry I can't be of more help here mate!

Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks for the awesome job on the profile and reg file! I'm new to E:D and HOTAS in general (save my old Thrustmaster Afterburner from my Mechwarrior days) so I was a bit overwhelmed at first. This helped a TON.

I've made one change, I like my yaw on the 'Z' axis and roll on the 'X'....Brilliant setup by you though....again thank you.

Thank you seanjo! I expect that might be a common change for many, its one of those ones that's really a personal preference (same with full range throttle and stuff).

Hi Aussiedroid

for me it was that nipple control that was not working and the mode switch for the Galaxy map.
after remapping the Galaxy map, it's working well now.
I personally don't care about the nipple control since I just don't need to map the thrusters on 2 different keys. I'm using it for switching between ships.

greetings!

Does anyone else find the X55 rather cumbersome and awkward? I played for about four hours last night on my new HOTAS and just couldn't shake the feeling that I could do better. It could just be that it is new to me, but I don't know. It seems like a lot of the buttons and HATs are just not placed correctly.

Has anyone made the switch from the X52 to an X55? I like having all the button and switch options, but I have a feeling it will take quite some time to get comfortable with the button positioning.

I've been using the X55 since December. Never had the X52, but can't imagine playing without the 55 now. Once you work out a config to your liking, I'd bet you will feel the same.

Aussiedroid; The "Auto docking request" switch does not work correctly. It opens the menu but seems to randomly scroll thru different tabs, etc. Any idea how to fix this?

Yes - I've just done that as I picked up an X55 for £120 on Amazon and it was too good an offer to refuse.

Compared with the X52 - it's massive physically. I'm liking the extra throttle buttons, but the Stick has no height adjustment as per the '52 as you're aware, so the top two hats, and the A button are pretty much out of reach for me.

Now that I'm used to it, I won't go back due to the extra throttle buttons, but I *may* investgate trying to use the X55 throttle with the X52 stick only as the 52 stick is more comfortable imho.

Well the good news is that the buttons seems to be working if its doing something at least :)

With the Auto-Dock, it will only work if the left panel is defaulted. By this I mean when you come out of Super Cruise it will always be on the first entry in the menu. Any other menu (or if you have looked/moved/switched tabs anywhere in that panel) it will not work. There is no need to look at the panel, just hit the key and it should work.

So I use it only when I have come out of SC to a station. First thing I press is the Auto-Dock (should speed through the menu and hit the request) while I speed up towards the station.

There is a limitation where it is only accessible via the specific menu in the panel (no key shortcut), so the macro basically mimics what you would do with the UI direction keys. If the starting position isn't correct then it will not work.

Can you give it another go and let me know if you are still having issues?

My only concern is that something has changed since the 1.2 update, specifically the menu orders or it is now not defaulting as it was. I actually haven't docked at a station in over 6 weeks (exploring .. closing in on Sag A*) so I haven't tested it for a while.

Cheers.

Gave that a go and it didn't seem to work. I could just be doing something very wrong, but it seems that even when my last action was to request docking, once I hit the switch it goes to a different tab in the panel every time and scrolling trough. For example you hit it once and it goes to sub-contacts then closes out then re-opens and goes to navigation and does random things.

Yeah it sounds like it is starting on the wrong menu item in the panel. So when you use it, it still goes through the actions but ends up in the wrong spot.

Perhaps the menus don't default after exiting super cruise anymore??

All you should need to do once you get to a station and come out of SC, is to press the Auto-dock and you should be done. No manual navigating of the side panel should be needed.

If you were to manually navigate to the start of the menu (first item on the navigation tab) and then try the auto-dock it should work still. Obviously it defeats the purpose but would show it works if in the right starting location.

From what you are saying you seem to be doing it right (I think), you just cant have moved the pointer/menu item from the very first item otherwise it will not work :(

Can someone post a picture that highlights the button you need to press to avoid the whole flightstick moulds from splitting right down the middle of its two halves ?

LOL only joking!

Got it to work a couple of times! I believe it was just user error. I will report back if otherwise. Thank you, and good luck in your adventures.
