Xbox One GPP2 Build Incoming

Hi,
Apologies if this is the wrong thread to add this to, but I am a new member, so no new threads allowed.
a bug did smite me down in Elite dangerous (XBox One edition).

Whilst in Timeshift drive, trying to get to a station, yesterday, when the system told me to slow down (I was already decreasing speed), I took the throttle all the way back, yet the ship would then suddenly accelerate. It happened a few times, but yesterday it was 5 times in a row, making the approach to the station take almost forever (an annoying 673 seconds).

In addition, some missions are a bit 'wonky'. The one I took yesterday involved taking Gallium (2 tonnes) to another place. I did not get the Gallium (there was no option to pick it up), so I apparently should have bought it. Then the destination (one jump away) did not have the exchange (it took a long while to figure out that it was part of some hub (the one system with more than 2 stations). It would be nice to
a. properly inform that we either must buy the gallium, or make collecting it part of the mission buttons (like accept and load cargo).
b. add the location of the station that had the exchange. (so navigation becomes a little less of a puzzle).
overall way too much 'effort' for a mere 10K. (especially as one pirate was nice enough to die by my pulse lasers and donate an awesome 179K, which put me over the top for a Cobra)

Optional, add one training mission to do a two jump navigation exercise (or add that to the initial travel training). This might just be the consequence of the XB1 having a few less expected controller choices than a PC/MAC with full HOTAS.

I upgraded to my Cobra MK3 since I started last Saturday, so I am not doing too bad.

p.s. the docking computer with the 2001 music (like the original was a nice surprise).

Welcome :)

That's not really a bug. The Frame Shift Drive (FSD) is affected by the gravitational pull of other objects as you travel, which can cause you to accelerate and overshoot your target if you don't slow down in time.

( for the "science" of Elite, see this interesting post from a physicist: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=106861 )

There are two general ways to avoid overshooting:

- Keep the needle blue! If the throttle needle is blue (not just in the blue range on the scale, but actually blue itself) then the ship should auto-adjust its speed as necessary while travelling in Supercruise (the in-system FSD mode). Just up the throttle until the moment the needle turns blue and leave it.

- Or, if you are impatient, you can whack the throttle to max... but you must make sure that you bring it back down to 75% or less (aim for the blue) the *instant* that the time remaining hits 7 seconds. Leave it any longer and you'll overshoot.

Missions have different icons, which show what kind of mission they are. Some trade missions supply you with the goods, some require you to buy it yourself. Some missions need no cargo space as you are just a courier. Some missions are assassinations. Some are smuggling. Some are piracy. Some are merc jobs.... etc. They all have a different icon. The mission you picked will have had the icon indicating that you need to supply the goods yourself, and probably would have said so in the description too (although descriptions aren't always written too well!).

I couldn't find a link showing the actual icons with a quick search, but this should at least help as it has descriptions of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteOne/comments/3c97w0/tldr_bulletin_board_mission_typesicons/

If you need to supply goods yourself, you need to check the map to see what systems export the kind of thing you're after (or use one of the many trading tools online).

Hi Skullman,

1. I had slown down several seconds earlier, suddenly it stated to accelerate again. It does not happen every time, only yesterday when it happened 5 times in a row.
The blue needle was also part of it, it started to accelerate, i kept the speed to the very minimum, but I will retry with your suggestion (just to make sure).

2. I'll keep that in mind. I only completed like half a dozen missions, so there is a bit of newness, but the lack of clarity in some missions remain. will try some screenshots over the next few days.

Cheers,

Cmdr Leisure Suit Larry (not my name, but I couldn't resist referring to that classic)

Note that we are having to reset the first discovered exploration data, but are keeping commander progress including ships and modules (the same thing will apply when we launch the final retail version of the game) and scanned data.

If I have an Imperial Clipper in GPP2 when final retail version is released but have not gained the rank of Baron will I still be able to keep it?

Cmdr hello when you know is what the xbox gamers can play with PC players? and if private groups are planned for xbox one?

(sorry for my approximate english)

David braben answered this on his Reddit AMA. You will NOT keep your ships. You will be reimbursed your total assets, and start in a sidey. So no rank, no clipper.
