Xbox version is NEVER going to be the FULL FAT version?

I have been enjoying the game for nearly three years now, but as I watch more and more content providers on Boobtube, I realise they get more of the "bells & whistles" than us console "plebs"!
PC players have access to stuff like voice operated ship functions and as I search for ways to get a 3D copy of my ships to start a physical collection, I find again, us poor console players getting short changed! WHY can't we get the same features as PC? XBox runs the same operating system and in most cases, the XBox is superior in performance! How difficult is it, to say to these third party creators of these features, "if you build a gadget for one platform, we will only allow it IF you also provide that service for ALL platforms!". Really, doesn't FDev see the benefit of such an approach?
I only decided to buy the new XBox One because I'd heard the new Elite game was coming to that platform! Now I see I only got Elite Dangerous LITE!

Why didn't you buy a PC then?

More serious:
Besides VoicePacks and Voice Operation are third party software. Don't know how easy or difficult it is to modify installations on a XBox. I'd say it's much more secured so that nobody bother customer service with broken installations.

So it's hardly Frontiers fault when there are software limitations.

Im on the opposite end of the scale...first year or so I played pc only...last year or two has been console only. I prefer the console truth be told although primary reason is cost...I couldnt afford a gaming pc even if I wanted to...awkward things like food and bills and mortgage gets in the way of important stuff like mantoys.

My xbone runs the game better and faster than my low end pc does, so I tend to see things on the console as an upgrade...not a downgrade as you seem to believe.

True story but did ye know there are a lot more cheats on pc cos its easier to change the code on a pc and near impossible on a console? Even a beginner can figure out how to run scripts on a pc and literally everything you mention is a third party addon not designed specifically fer this game. Console players have long been asking fer such things, and they are beginning to trickle down from master race...we now have keyboards, mice and even a Hotas. If ye think thats the end of the trickling down then educate yerself on the history of consoles as even 5 years ago, such ideas were foolish...now its normal

Buy a oneX or a pc...sounds like yer not gonna be happy with a oneX so off to the master race with ya ^

Because those are third party applications that are built by third parties to work with the PC version of the game. Frontier aren't shortchanging Xbox or PS4 players by not adding these "features" because they are NOT official features of the game.

It really shouldn't need explaining...

This. I'm qualified to tell you how Voice Attack works as I actually have it installed on PC. Technically speaking the voice commands don't communicate with the game at all. It communicates with your keyboard... Whatever you are doing.

Voice Attack can control anything on a PC. Actually, I introduced my mate to it, and uses it for everything except gaming.

Crucially it is not a Frontier product.

You have no clue on the peripheral market.

You're going to flip when you see my X52...

Wasn't it a bit naive to buy a console to ostensibly play a PC game (it's a miracle it exists on more consoles than the one it's most at home on)? Why didn't you consider doing some more research before spending so much on a platform?

I much prefer console gaming to PC's, but consoles will always be a comparative compromise. Modding on Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE, for example, works superbly (for the most part... ), but it'll never be quite as good as modding on PC. Anyone buying a console should kinda know that before they commit. Same with any game, starting with performance options.

I'm personally fine with Elite on XB1. The HOTAS is enough for me as far as whistles'n'bells go.

As has been already said...all those functions you imagine us PC players have supplied free by FDev just for E-D...aren't really anything of the sort. Voice attack is voice control software for everything you can run on a PC with a keyboard. Simply mapping a keypress to a spoken command like saying "Boost" sends the 'press the B key' to the game...or whatever you want it to. We also have fancy HCS voice packs for Voice Attack that replace the vanilla Verity and Victor ships computer voices with the likes of ASTRA, who you can have a conversation with whilst she arranges docking permission or jumps to supercruise without pressing a single button...

Voice Attack is a 3rd party program we had to pay for (£8 on Steam for me), just like the 3rd party 'Dr Kaii's E-D Profiler' to edit HUD/UI colours although that one is free. Or the HCS voice packs which retail at £20 apiece....Nothing to do with FDev at all. The rule is, if you'd like the ability to mod or edit your games like those E-D YouTube vids you like so much, you'll need a PC to do it.

I'll also point out that all the current limitations in the Xbox or PS4 versions of E-D when compared with the PC version are strictly down to Microsoft or Sony, not Frontier.

As for the Xbox being superior in performance to current gen PC's? That's mostly untrue...the Xbox is certainly better optimised to use it's hardware more efficiently...but you go ahead and run E-D in native 4K with all the ultra graphic setting bells and whistles turned on and let me know how that goes for you...that's right...you can't, there aren't any graphic settings in the Xbox version that allow you to do that. You simply have the choice between 4k quality mode or 1080p 1x super-sampled at a limited 60FPS (as far as I'm aware).

My PC runs E-D at around 120 FPS at 4K resolutions on ultra graphic settings, as it does with all current game titles to date.

Basically, we pay through the nose for all this 3rd party stuff and the hardware performance to go with it, my graphics card alone cost nearly twice the price of an Xbox 1X...we certainly don't have our multi-screen 4K displays, eye tracking hardware and HOTAS rigs supplied by FDev either.

All this fancy schmancy stuff isn't at all necessary to enjoy gaming of course, I enjoyed E-D and lots of other games on the Xbox for many years before returning to the dark side...but you get what you pay for when it comes to PC gear and it ain't cheap.

It's not an ideal platform for everyone, especially having to drop a fairly substantial cash outlay on something that is used for playing games if you only have 2 or 3 hours a week to sit and play those games or simply grab a few precious minutes when the wife hasn't captured the TV to watch Eastenders.

Fortunately, if you spend a great deal of your free time in front of it like I do... all this fancy gear can be used for other games outside of E-D...but you'll more than likely also get relegated to the 'Harry Potter' cupboard under the stairs to play with it all [rolleyes]

As others have pointed out you are using the "FULL FAT" version. Please direct your misplaced angst towards Phony [SUB](Sony)[/SUB] & Micro$haft (Microsoft) who are the actual barriers to a lot of the 3rd party enhancements you refer to.

One of the precepts of console based gaming, is that it is a level paying field. Every user has the same(ish) hardware. You got Elite Dangerous, full fat, full cream, full sugar & full carbs. Full on. 100%. 10/10.

ED is one of those arcade type sims that you only get back what you put into it. No matter what platform you're on.

Don't worry before Fronties can say "god save the queen" Xbox Scarlet will be out and we will all be playing Bethesda's Starfield. January 2021 Elite will just be a fond memory...

Dabs...

The game is the same on all platforms with the same functionality. What you see on PC is third-party software and different mods and add-ons. They have nothing to do with the base game, Frontier develops everything on all three platforms. This has always been the case, though. PC versions of games usually support mods while console versions don't.

I use a Hotas on my Xbox and have 2 toddlers in the house, so voice command is a waste of time. Hell, trying to have a brief conversation on Discord is challenging when you have two little girls at your feet 24/7. :) I think that we do okay on Xbox with ED. We just need more players!

I'll forever be a console player. I can't keep up with the whole PC hardware thing--constantly worrying if my PC can run a game. When I buy a game for console, I know that it'll run smooth (mostly) because it was designed for that specific hardware in mind. I buy that hardware once and it lasts me 5-8 years, no worries about compatibility. Sure, we don't always have the best graphics and frame rates, but I'm willing to make that concession for not having to be constantly keeping up with the Joneses.

I've seen some discussion online about the possibility of "next gen" consoles having upgradable video cards. To me, that would be the death of the console.

You're absolutely right. It'd be a disaster. The hardware makers will love it as it'll make sure people are constantly on the hook for newer and better gear on a more regular basis, but it'll kill the allure of the console.

That would annoy me, as I also stick with console because I don’t have the inclination to constantly be buying new hardware.

*checks internet, new xbox console 2020*

I switched platforms for the exact same reason Doc, but the good'ol days are gone.. Now a days, consoles follow up as fast as you need to change PC hardware.. unfortunately.

thankfully a console upgrade never gets more expensive then 500 bucks. (yes trust me, never, 500+ bucks for a console will a deathblow)
