You can now pick your target in the system map !

Ugh that's ugly. I mean, you can write your system destination on notepad and paste into searchbox, but that's painfull. Especially in core regions where route plotting can take minutes. Please beta testers, tell the dev to fix that or the function will be almost useless.

I will create a bug report of this tonight when I can get the info they want.

If it takes less time to scan a system then it just increases the size of the bubble of scanned systems. Far from helping the time constrained explorer, it just makes it ever harder for them as they have to travel further & further to even find something previously unclaimed.

This is not a problem and unlikely to be so in the near future. Racing (i.e. just scoop & jump) is quite quick so most people can go ~2000 ly in an hour. You really slow down when you start scanning planets. So its easy to rush out to uncharted lands, then slow down and begin exploring "properly".

Please do, this feels like it would be awful in the core.

Well, that's an update definately not for me. Not that fussed about the "Combat Explorer" that doesn't give you comparable range to an Asp whilst carrying weapons and shields. And as I scan everything in a system I am exploring, then the only difference the system map selectables makes to me is in getting somewhere to sell the data - IF I can select the correct station from a Kylie out, that is!
.
Definately going to keep to my Asp and just swap the weapons/shields.etc. out when I need them. I'll get better range for out in the arms where I doubt I'll ever see anyone, and can defend myself for when I'm being a tourist and could end up with someone trying to snatch my bag.

If you scan all objects anyway then this is of no use. Only for those who are looking for earthlikes, waters and ammonia or anything else that looks interesting. As for arming your Asp, if you are jumping arms at the extremes, that is the only time you really need a good jump range.

Which will cost you 10%. I am buying my second Asp from Alioth today. No way I am paying over 2m to downgrade my fuel scoop every time I get home.

Hang on there... this is coming up in the patch?

If this is incorporated, do they give us hangars to store excess equipment to swap when necessary?

Overall this is a very useful quality of life feature that I can not really see how anyone in their right mind can be AGAINST of :p

Some think that it will dumb down exploring. I don't see why, it's not like the current system are difficult, just more time consuming. I would rather see difficulty in the content we are scanning. Navigational hazards, dangerous systems that needs some thinking to explore safely, special environments and information gathering using new and specialized scanners, probes etc etc.

It might save you time cherry-picking some objects to scan in a system but I don't see how it will make scanning a system any quicker.

Oh, it's definitely for cherry-picking. Like many others, pre-1.3, we've adapted different approaches to finding what we want to scan. Like the inner-most planet snuggled between two asteroid belts. It's a quick flick of the 1 key and toggling down until a planet hologram shows up. Or the fifth and sixth planet have water/ammonia features, but they're on opposite sides of the star in their orbits - measuring AU doesn't quite work when you travel to the first of those interesting planets (I tend to measure AU from the star, note where they are on the "radar" map, and plot a course dependent upon the results). Then, there's the "high above the plane" approach.

I'll probably use the feature sometimes. Most times not, as pre-1.3, the approach I'm using now works fine.

Hoping 1.4 will cure the "real life shinies" that usually result in me face-planting a neutron or white dwarf. Television, wife aggro, kiddos. EDevs, can we get a toggle switch to turn those off? :)

I must admit that I do enjoy travelling to a second or thrid star in a system, after scanning the star heading up so i can see all the orbit rings, and then counting the rings until I find the one I want and then selecting the object I am after using the mark one eyeball. I know, I need help.

Yes it is in 1.3. However, no way to store kit, or any way to name your ships to tell which Asp has a 20+m fuel scoop and made of paper, and which Asp is armed for bear

Arguments currently raging (and I mean RAGE) on the Beta forum, so they may back
