“He wrapped himself in quotations - as a beggar would enfold himself in the purple of Emperors.” - Rudyard Kipling

I do exactly the above. How can one not resist being around the most wise, experienced and funny? So what if most of them are dead? Let us surround ourselves by the best in humanity in this seemingly sordid world.

On the other hand, chipmunks and squirrels are extremely cute and I like being around them, too.

I bought a wooden whistle.
But it wooden whistle.

So I got a steel one
But it steel wooden whistle

I bought a lead whistle
But is steel bloody wooden lead me whistle.

-William Shakespeare

Yes. I like this quote.... a lot. It just seems such an appropriate attitude to live by.

Most of the time, excuses are made out of pure laziness. For people who are constantly making excuses...the negative energy it takes to do so could instead be used on getting things DONE! Great things come to those who work hard for it and that goes for everything in life. Opportunities will pass you by if you don't take advantage of them. Simple as that. So next time you hear someone whining about why they aren't where they want to be in life...ask them what they have done to get there. ~ Markesa Yeager

I give in, nobody has quoted Vonnegut so I had better do it:

“To be is to do”—Socrates.
“To do is to be”—Jean-Paul Sartre.
“Do be do be do”—Frank Sinatra.

(... from "Deadeye " in case you are not au fait with Vonnegut.)

"We cannot gain mastery over our weaknesses until we first admit we have them and then forgive ourselves for that."

Sorry I don't know who said it. I have quotes scribbled all over the place and sometimes forget to write down the author's name. Pretty sure it wasn't Hello Kitty.

It sounds very Chinese and Kung-Fu-esque.

Hmmmmm...... The acknowledgment part does sound like Kwai Chang Kaine, but the forgiveness aspect seems more occidental(i.e. Jesus of Nazarath). Compassion seems to be the big asian self help concept now, the word forgiveness is not often used in that sort of mass media. I chose the quote for the forgiveness aspect; the acknowledgement idea is more widely disemminated I think.
