Your game is still fundamentally broken.

Can't argue with you OP. And the frustrations at the games current state, while devs only speak of gimping important aspects of gameplay and no mention of the seemingly countless mechanics that barely work if at all. Yes I can see a justification for all our concerns.

I could add a page or two but the horse is dead.

They just needed to fix the core before adding all these expansions. It's just compounding bugs on top of bugs and trying to fix them with band aid solutions..

Until the crippling p2p system is completely reworked (unlikely to happen). Many of the issues crippling ED will continue to plague it. How the npc' s operate, market mechanics, CD unable to do anything about combat disconnecting a.k. task kill/pulling plug, player driven economy, the RNG..... thr list goes on.

The fundamental game design is somehow stuck in the 90ies(Elite II), but with beefed up present technology.
Anyway, as somebody said before, stop whining and quit. That's what I am doing right now, taking a break. So what!
I am not a game designer...just my personal opinion what I have expierenced over the months of playing.
And for now it is not my cup of tea, anymore. Let's see what the future brings...

Star Citizen? You mean that game which is now several years behind schedule, & whose graphics & gameplay will probably be obsolete on release? Or maybe you're referring to getting the player base to pay US$100 for JPEGs of ships? Yeah, no thanks. FDev aren't perfect, but I much prefer their approach to the money sucking approach of SC.

....and my ignore list just got a tiny bit bigger.

LOL! You're so funny!

Says the guy pushing the Star Citizen development model. Got to admire your chutzpah, if nothing else.

Not being "great" or their exact vision to meet what they and only they want,Demandneed like oxygen to have
So that justifies calling the Devs Stupid and idiots and clueless and talentless does it?
Is that what passes for acceptable these days.

Don't like something, insult everyone until you get what you want?

As they cannot seem to cope with any differing option of their own thoughts, they can give it, feel entitles to give it, but heaven forbid anyone question them, more insults as how dare anyone disagree with them.

Spoilt children.

Couldn't agree more. It takes a special kind of game to keep me from playing Civilization VI....yet that is what I am finding. I recognize the game's flaws & current inadequacies, but then I bought this game knowing I would be getting a WiP. Rather than be carping & negative, I find its much easier to get the game design decisions you want by offering suggestions in a calm, constructive manner.

Because i want to see Elite actually become something, one day. And it aint gonna happen when people tell them what they want to hear and pat them on the back for mediocre features. Can you understand that?

Probably not going to happen when people use passive aggressive in a discussion forum, rather than post changes with reason in the forum for that. You decided to hide your message behind sarcasm and noise, so the point you are answering has validity.

Nothing you list ' fundamentally breaks' the game. It runs, it works. Pure hyperbole and exaggeration.

Try getting to work in a 'fundamentally broken' car sometime.

Without wanting to jump into yet another FD bashing thread even if I do agree with a lot of what the OP said, and yes I still play the game because there is nothing out there quite like it even with its multitude of sins.

Is this for real?

I dont understand why people use EDDB, we put everything the player needs ingame? - Blissfully Ignorant and Detached Developer

IF so then yeah some one is rather detached from reality.

To quote DS9‘s wormhole aliens: "Aggresive! Adversarial!"

But he does have a point. The game has moments of sheer technical wonder, and can be amazingly relaxing and immersive if you're not too hung up on actually achieving anything significant. But the minute you try to interact with its mechanics beyond just scraping the surface, you realise how inconsistent and frustrating it can be.

Well, how exactly would you go about fixing things from your perspective?
To be fair I'm sure he could come up with a few ideas, as so many of us have over the years, but he doesn't have to. That's someone else's job, and so far they're nailing some of the goals spectacularly while sadly falling short on many others.

This is the most technically excellent but poorly executed game I have ever played.
That's perfect, and I'm going to steal that as a response when people ask me about ED. I've mentioned this before, but this game engenders in its fans a sort of gamers' schizophrenia. On numerous occasions I've been asked, "Hey, you play that Elite game: is it any good? Should I get it?" To which my answer has always been, "It's the best computer game I've ever played. And I absolutely cannot recommend you get it."

Which on the surface is an absolutely bizarre response for a lifetime gamer to give, but such is the polarising nature of ED. It will always be a bit of a divisive product due to its relatively niche nature, but the continuing bugs and unfathomable design inconsistencies often make it an exercise in annoyance even for those who would otherwise embrace the genre. It's digital Marmite. All you can do is ask people to take a bite and see whether they consume the rest of the jar or dash off to the crapper, retching and calling you mad for liking it.

I've just got to say, I feel like people ignore everything good about elite. No one ever says "good job" and considering the amount of effort FD and us players put into this game, I just have to say thank you. :)

Isn't that basically like everything in life? Good work goes unnoticed, mistakes dotted in between the good work are scrutinized with an electron microscope?

... To gain rep with a pirate faction you must do piracy. Once you obtaint friendly status with said faction you are still interdicted and shot at by said pirate faction. - Logic
Pirates are pirates. One time you will make deal with them and in another one they will try rob you. Simple and logical :p :D .. pirates are imo quite disorganised bunch, so I would see as zero surprise that some will still shot. You have rep with them to receive some illegal nicely paid jobs.

I think its a good feature to have that if you ever have cargo at all you will be interdicted 80% of the time no matter what. Such an amazing feature, even if the Commodities only add up to 5k credits. Its also nice they dont even need to scan, they just know whats in the hold. - Brilliant Game Design
commodity worth is irrelevant. What is worth for you, can have zero value for someone else and opposite. It would be great if there exist more sophisticated NPCs pirating. And I mean really complex included use some new powerplay stuff and hatch limpets ... on other side I'm absolutely sure that this will bring terrible outcry how is ED unplayable, NPC so strong etc. ... I really believe that we will have something much better as is now, but it just will come later.

Being hounded by Bounty hunters is also amazing, even when they also dont need to use a K-Warrant scanners. Even when im in a system im not wanted in, they KNOW what ive done.... somehow, even though its impossible to do a K-Scan in SC. They just know that my 10k credit bounty is completely worth trying to kill me over when im in a Conda and the NPC hunter is risking his Python or FAS over it. - Logic
Again, amount of moneys put on your head is irrelevant. You did something for what you are wanted and this is all what is needed for let you hunt and shot down by hunters. You assume that NPC hunters needs use the same info sources like players, but players can be seen as quite limited to getting info sources. What is not good here (and the same reasons which I put above) is, that for every at least little skilled and prepared cmdr are bounty hunters absolutely no threat. This thing must change for more reasons, but again ... I just hear cry of many ... lets imagine such engineered plasma NPC Fas bounty hunter :)

Hey, lets buff the crap out of PAs to defeat people with huge shields and maxed resistances. That will fix everything right? Its so simple why didnt we think of it sooner. I dont see this back firing in any way. - Another Genius at FD Who Doesnt Even Play the Game
:D feared? To be honest I also have my doubts about this, but it was said maybe 100times already that it will be tested first in short beta. Game dev which announced this change for sure doesn't deserve your mark, he knows this game much better as you :) (feeling offended? :) ) and he want bring into action more as only pulsed and multi-canons which is imo great idea.

Lets make the most social anti social game possible by delaying ingame squads and chat functions only to release at a later date in a broken shell of itself. And when people actually wing up they PROFIT LESS FOR COMBAT, brilliant right? They also cant share mission rewards or accept a mission as a wing, or even choose how proceeds are split. And actually make the game perform WORSE when you do wing up. Lets leave it like that for 1.5 years or more. - An Investor
.. crap, I was sure that play in wing should offer more fun, or safety. Doing some combat missions in wing is MUCH more profitable/time as do this alone, but that need some experience :)

I dont understand why people use EDDB, we put everything the player needs ingame? - Blissfully Ignorant and Detached Developer
I would say that it would be briliant if game devs cooperate with such 3rd party developers and put theirs work directly into game. ... but hold on, we got things like journal etc. which is imo really brilliant move, they knew that game is missing this, so allowed players base get this and help build this game community bcs between players are some really skilled ones (coders). Maybe it is unorthodox, uncommon or some say not professional, but it is working quite well, its improved really fast and works smoothly (at least for me yes).

Lets bring in crafting and force the use of a commodity WHICH CAN BE TRADED between players, but explicitly state "We do not want a player driven economy for reasons we dont understand" even though that is exactly what you just did. You use the same logic for why we cant store commodities. Do the people that work at FD only play Roller Coaster games (or even games in general) because the stuff everyone is asking for is nothing new in the world of gaming and MMOs.
It is how the devs want and how they are able do now. BGS is quite complicated stuff in such huge scale like ED have. They said that want improve it, and actually they are doing it all the time. So relax, go play something else and return after some time to put more constructive criticism which can help improve this game ..

I actually agree with all the OP points except the first one, the decreased recharge time for large shields (out of combat). Something like this much needed really for large MJ shields. Reboot/repair sequence basically makes your ship a sitting duck anyway, so I think this is balanced in most situations. The other points I'm pretty sure a lot of other people would agree with too.

Even for all the PA buffs, what FD didn't factor in is that less manoeuvrability medium and large ships have no way of dodging PAs up to certain range. If these buffs are applied to npcs as well there will predictably be lots of complaints on the forums because all npcs (regardless of rank) seems to be grade A marksmen with any fixed weapon. I regularly have fought npcs with PAs and rails in my FDL, and they can can hit you while they strafe up or down, and when fighting you head on they can shadow your movement so accurately that no matter what you do you can't dodge incoming fire. The PA buffs and fixed weapon buffs will make npcs OP, especially since they don't have to regulate heat like players do.
