Welcome to (hopefully) the list to end all plant lists. I really appreciate seeing plants get added every update (paid and free) as it is just as exciting imo. I wanted to compose a list of plants that I would love to see in game with a focus on not represented or underrepresented taxa or regions. 200+ plants later, we have the mega-list below. I included some rationale to each section, but my approach to making it was to enable players to have a big “toolbox” to enable making naturalistic or “wild” zoo grounds to enable realistic zoo horticulture/design or landscape architecture.
Realistically-sized Shade and Understory Trees:
There are a lot of "old-growth" sized trees in the game, like trees that must be hundreds of years old. I'd like to see more common landscape trees that are of "mature" size, like around 25-40 feet in height. There have been a lot of good additions lately, but here are some others.
Jacaranda - Jacaranda mimosifolia: Tropical/Grassland, Central/South America
Chinese Flame Tree - Koelreuteria bipinnata: Temperate, Asia
Royal Poinciana - Deolonix regia, Tropical, Asia

Persian Silk Tree - Albizia julibrissin: Desert/Grassland/Temperate/Tropical
African Fern Pine - Afrocarpus gracilior: Temperate/Grassland/Taiga, Africa
Palm Trees:
There's a lot of diversity of Palms and that's not quite reflected in the game yet especially in the diversity of leaf shape, size, and color. Palms really add to the exotic and "wild" look of zoos even across colder temperate zones.
Bismarck Palm - Bismarckia nobilis: Desert/Grassland, Africa
Mexican Fan Palm - Washingtonia robusta: Desert, North America/Central/South America
Giant Fishtail Palm - Caryota gigas: Tropical/Grassland, Asia

Persimmon - Diospyros virginiana: Temperate, North America
Loquat - Eriobotrya japonica: Temperate/Tropical, Asia
Mango - Mangifera indica: Tropical/Grassland, Asia
Pomegranate - Punica granatum: Grassland/Desert/Temperate, Europe/Asia/Africa

Durian - Durio zibethinus: Tropical, Asia/Oceania
Papaya - Carica papaya: Tropical, Central/South America/Africa/Asia
Grasses and Grass-like plants:
The use of ornamental grasses in gardens was pioneered by zoos, so we need more in game. Similar to trees, we need more "people-scale" grasses as the ones in game are either very small weedy ones or taller than people (reeds and elephant grass). Grasses also are present across all biomes.
Slender Veldt Grass - Pennisetum spathiolatum: Grassland, Africa
Foxtail Grass - Pennisetum alopecuroides: Temperate/Tropical/Grassland, Asia/Africa/Oceania

Sweet Flag - Acorus gramineus: Temperate/Aquatic/Tropical
Bulrush - Schoenoplectus acutus: Aquatic/Temperate, Europe/North America/Asia
Tropical Understory Plants:
The temperate game is strong, but the tropical is lacking. With exceptions to a couple of dlcs, most of the additions have been temperate, and most of the base game tropical plants aren't as realistic or good for massing like the Elephant Ears and Swiss Cheese plant Monstera. Ferns and Aroids are a must. Also, please no non-naturally occurring variegated forms.
Red button Ginger - Costus woodsonii: Tropical, Central/South America
Shell Ginger - Alpinia zerumbet: Tropical, Asia
Imperial Bromeliad - Alcantarea imperialis: Tropical, Central/South America

Sago Palm - Cycas revoluta: Temperate/Tropical, Asia
Cape Cycad - Encephalartos ferox: Grassland/Tropical, Africa
Giant Dioon - Dioon spinulosum: Tropical, Central/South America
Fig Trees:
We have the strangler fig, but it would be nice to get a couple more from other parts of the world as they are an ecological staple. Some of these are big specimen trees or than can be smaller canopy or accent trees.

Well, there it is. You get a gold star if you read this far. If you have any questions, comments, share or don’t share the same opinions, let me know in the comments below, as it was difficult to explain the rationale of every plant when making this list quite the endeavor. Also, I wanted to include links to photos, so if someone wanted to help with that, that’d be great.
