Oooohhh, that looks like a nice game. I do like my city/civ builder games.

It's a bonanza of sceptical devs...
So this apparent lead gameplay programmer (with experience of VR & AAA MMOs and such), is concerned. They think that a Take-Two/Kerbal style contract cancellation by the investors might occur. And so poison the crowd-funding well for others.
But I'm more interested in some stuff they've said in the past

Ooof, that bit about parent classes really shocked me. And i'm not even a professional dev.

I won't disagree with your assertion here, because i've seen videos of it happening, jankfest that it is, it happens.
One does have to wonder though, during organic play, how likely this is to happen, should, miraculously, CIG actually start adding multiple systems.
Well the real answer is what are you creating base class in the first place.
will end up doing this as they fight for control of or access to key resources or facilities, like we see with Jumptown right now whenever it starts.

Well the real answer is what are you creating base class in the first place. You should always prefer composition to inheritance.
Me as programmer, hammer hammer hammer. Lots of statements. My instructor in certain python course said something like that when he saw my code. But well it did its jobUse a hammer when you need a hammer, use a screwdriver when you need a screwdriver. Both have their uses.
I'm sure someone will be along to shout "THEORY CRAFTING" at this post but based on what we've seen with ED's playerbase in the early years, its probable the large org types (who left ED as it didnt offer what they wanted) will end up doing this as they fight for control of or access to key resources or facilities, like we see with Jumptown right now whenever it starts.
Let's start with bartenders and go from there...
Wonder if we'll get a Chris response for Christmas?![]()
Your original post I was responding to was asking how likely it was large scale pvp events would occur in the event the playerbase got spread out more than the 1 system we currently have.CIG handcrafted events are not organic by any stretch of the imagination.
Outside CIG events there are not now, and not likely in the coming years, any resources to really fight over. And if one group were to be camping resources, you can just switch server and they are gone.
Yeah yeah, server meshing, blah blah blah. Will believe it when i see it, when all players are playing on the same common set of servers (although i suspect the verse will be split by regions because of that tricky little thing called the speed of light)
