Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

Yay, we all get free alts, but I won't have time to play them all...
I have three more alts, and while I won't be using them a lot, I look forward to using them for things that I wouldn't have done otherwise.
My possible options:
-reset the triple elite account with tens of billions, fully engineered fleet, max materials, etc.
-have a fleet of sidewinders (or other ship) exclusively
-get a single ship only and get lost in the black
-5C the heck out of PP
-park my fleet carriers in popular systems (with funds that will outlast the game)
-engage in PP (open only)
-engage in BGS (open only)
-join a squadron
-hoon
-SRV racing

ah, the possibilities...!

@Bruce G And I will ask a different question. Since it is pointless for me to play in two worlds instead of one at the same time, I might no longer need Legacy and I might not even want it on my HDD. Will there be any option to simply uninstall the legacy game files to free up disk space?
It should work the same way it does now. Where you can choose to install one, the other, or neither if you just like CQC I guess.

Achievements? What achievements?
There are trophies and achievements for taking part in X number of CGs, I believe one and ten at least on PS4, I'll have to go check - IF Frontier continue with their plans to make CGs for "live" mode only, anybody who doesn't have such trophies yet won't be able to get them (unless they're patched out etc!!) 😯

Certain online in particular trophies can stop you getting the platinum trophy, when various features are removed or near impossible to get if they're simply not supported by the community at large etc 🤔😯😀🤘 ...

For example, I'm close to getting the platinum trophy in Battlefield V but may never or at least not before I get bored with the game, due to a particular trophy related to the Frontlines mode, which was disabled as a full mode!

It's still "possible", but near impossible to get the trophy as Frontlines shows up in rotation in Grand Operations, but some people reckoned they literally had to play hundreds of rounds of Operations just for that one trophy, which hardly seems worth it or fair! 😯😂😀🤘

As a PC only player I was totally unaware of this.

I am 84% of the way to the 25 CGs achievement on XBox, since I have spent so many years out in the black. Was hoping after my time spent demolishing Azimuth in the last one that I could have it finished soon.

Well Steam and I believe Epic have achievements of their own if you (can) play Elite through them...

But really achievements as we kno them started on the Xbox 360 some time after 2005, while Playstation kind of copied them with trophies around 2009, overall it's far to say that they're a staple of particularly console gaming now, but as said, they do exist on PC 😀🤘

Man ... For somebody that just joined the forum yesterday, you sure know a lot about what's happened on the forums.

Joining this forum for writing doesn't inevitably mean that I'm not familiar with forums and it's participants in general, understood? Glad you were able to bring anything relevant on the point.

So here's a question about the new legacy server, sorry if someone has asked it elsewhere already.
On console, prior to one of the "Odyssey compatibility updates", we could purchase cosmetic clothing items for use in holo-me. The ability to purchase ones that were subsequently ported to Odyssey for use in its ground clothing system was removed in one such update, although we can still equip ones purchased prior to then, this change was presumably intended as a precursor to console players getting them back in the store when the console client moved to Odyssey.

Given how the new legacy server will be 100% split from Odyssey, is it possible to reinstate these items of clothing as purchasable in the console store for it the way they were prior to this Odyssey compatibility update?

Greetings Commanders,

We have an important announcement to share with regards to future game modes as of Update 14 which is due 29 November! Read all about it on our website and let us know what you think in the comments below:

I'm only now getting a chance to catch up. Holiday week here in the USA. ;) So quick question--

Does this make any changes to the StellarForge that might alter or invalidate exploration data? I'm not talking about BGS states, factions, stations, or anything like that. Specifically planet types and characteristics, stars, and star systems. And if it does make changes, will the journals make it clear whether the scan data is coming from Live vs Legacy? For exploration data sites like EDSM and my own EDAstro, and the EDDN network, this would be useful information for planning. ;)

Damn. As the second largest ASD squadron with 188 members in the game we will be losing around or more than 50 members since they can't get Odyssey or participate in the Live game now. Nearly no one of this group is going to drop 2k for new gaming PCs on this economy. Sad day for console BGS, CGs, and cool updates. Bye bye to a huge player base.

Hmm... i don't think you understand. Its effectively the same idea. The suggestion made in the past regarding PvP/PvE servers is the same as what FD are doing here with separate BGS, except both would continue to get updates. One of the common complaints from the PvP crowd is how PvEers can affect "their" BGS from PG/solo, so by having a separate BGS, with open only, and full PvP, that issue goes away, and the 100 or so people who play on the PvP servers can relax knowing nobody can affect "their" BGS from the safety of PG/solo. The only difference would be that on the PvE server it would be impossible to directly harm another commander through ramming or weapons... although really, that's not that required, since Open could remain as it is now with PvP enabled for those who want it and PG/solo remain. It basically would give the hardcore PvPers their own playground on a separate sever.

Besides, FD wouldn't have to keep it running for long, as those who scream loudest about people working the BGS in PG/solo will soon get bored when they realize nobody is working the BGS or opposing their efforts anyway on their PvP server. :p
Yes, problem is nobody can 100% say if he/she will ever want to do pvp. I can't, for example. Proposed server split guaranteed blocks player from ever try pvp and in reverse - don't allow retired PVPer to play peaceful PVE later.

Since H4.0 is effectively the main version, will its system requirements be updated in the marketing materials? Or will it be advertised using the lower-end specs needed for Legacy mode? I can imagine new players being frustrated by having a computer that meets the recommended specs for H3.8, but when loading into "Live", getting atrocious framerates and quality.

Well, as i said, the PvP server could be no modes while the "PvE" server is just as we have it now.

Doubt it. Nothing ever changes or has changed.
So unless we get any kind of major changes on that with 4.0, you can bet in 3.8 the galaxy will remain as static as it has been for the past 7 years.

Basically, what you are saying is that everyone who has ever put effort into Powerplay has been wasting their time.

No argument from me! :D

It became abundantly clear with both the general mechanics of how it worked and how the only way powers could be created or destroyed was by hand of FD.

The requirements for Odyssey are from space, the problem is not in the hardware but in the terrible optimization of the graphics engine and / or its selection for new types of gameplay. I have more demanding games (Horizon: Zero Dawn for example) that run smoothly on high graphics settings on my rig and Odyssey stutters. And it doesn't look like anything is about to change. It is most convenient to transfer the task and costs to the user. I am writing this as a programmer and designer of control systems. For selling a program to a customer in Odyssey's condition, I would be fired and charged with damaging the company's image.
