Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

So here's a question about the new legacy server, sorry if someone has asked it elsewhere already.
On console, prior to one of the "Odyssey compatibility updates", we could purchase cosmetic clothing items for use in holo-me. The ability to purchase ones that were subsequently ported to Odyssey for use in its ground clothing system was removed in one such update, although we can still equip ones purchased prior to then, this change was presumably intended as a precursor to console players getting them back in the store when the console client moved to Odyssey.

Given how the new legacy server will be 100% split from Odyssey, is it possible to reinstate these items of clothing as purchasable in the console store for it the way they were prior to this Odyssey compatibility update?

As an aside, this fact remains part of the best evidence that they were indeed still trying right up until the end to get Odyssey working on consoles, it wasn't something they gave up on months before they announced there wouldn't be a console version.

Something I already believed to be more likely than not simply because the fact Odyssey was ever released at all in the form in which we got it, considering the state of it, is proof enough of how Frontier will doggedly throw good money after bad pursuing sunk cost fallacy over going back to the drawing board and having to scrap a bunch of invested time and effort when it dawns on them that something is not working out.

I have a question regarding account usage. At the moment, if I log in to Odyssey on one PC and then log in to Horizons 3.8 on another PC - using the same account credentials, one of them is logged out with a message saying the account is unavailable.
After update 14, will it be possible to log in as described and run the two sessions side-by-side? I'm currently in the middle of a long expedition using my carrier to support both Horizons and Odyssey players. I cannot leave one or other carrier behind and will need to jump both 3.8 and 4.0 carriers over long distances. The ability to run two sessions would make this task a lot easier.

I'm in a similar situation. I plan to fly one back to the bubble (the 3.8 one) & carry on with the Odd one. I don't have enough time before the split to get to somewhere 'safe' for both.

No idea if someone already posted it, but just to be safe - Inara.cz won't support the Legacy Server in regards to the most crucial Data.

That doesn't bother me personally, as I tend to enjoy Elite more using the in-game tools these days. The glaring exception is the now empty Facilities list on the system map, forcing me to use third party tools to find things like Interstellar Factors. Hopefully Frontier fixes this heinous (and relatively new) bug soon.

I also get the sense that those who most love 3rd party tools in Inara also love Odyssey with equal passion, so it's logical that the devs of these sites focus on their core users.

And yet Frontier never had plans to produce a version for what is now the current generation of consoles. Try and squeeze Odyssey on old console hardware, completely discount new console hardware. It's a puzzle.

So just to make sure that I’ve gotten my head around this properly …

Our Sq like many others, is currently made up of mostly PC players with a few PS and XB players mixed in. We currently maintain our various systems (bgs) as a ‘cross platform‘ unit. After the update, I can see that there will be a Legacy bgs and a Live bgs which I understand but is the PC legacy a different one to the console Legacy or will the Sq still have the option to function as it is now and maintain our current bgs as a mixed platform?

Legacy galaxy should be shared by PC and consoles like it is now.

That wasn't explicitly mentioned but the general assumption is yes.

Nothing changes for 3.8 players, but all PC commanders will have their account split into a 3.8 and a 4.0 account which from that point onwards will diverge. Nothing you do in 3.8 will affect the 4.0 galaxy and vice versa.

Frontier could solve this space junk problem by setting all Legacy carriers to automatically start the decommission process on "split" day. Anyone still playing in Legacy (all ten of us) can cancel the decommission, and those who aren't won't lose much even if they do return to Legacy at a later date, since they get most of their credits back.
Just put 5 years upkeep on my PS FC.

There are no achievements for ED on Steam or Epic.
Hmm that's strange, while I really don't play PC games anymore, in particular because I hated jumping though all the necessary hoops and am much more comfortable playing on my systems of choice, Playstation, though I did go through a PC gaming "phase" mostly between 2005 and 2012, barely playing them 2012-2018 and literally not since* (mostly only playing the X series and Age of Empires iii) but of the literal handful of games I tried playing on Steam, most had achievements - are you sure?! 😯😂

*While my current PC, a Dell Inspiron with integrated graphics which I got around 2016, isn't powerful enough to play high end games, though didn't disgrace itself playing the demo for X Rebirth pretty well, however it certainly won't play Elite or newer games, not that I'm even trying to play on PC, so it's pretty moot!😯😂😀🤘

Yes, problem is nobody can 100% say if he/she will ever want to do pvp. I can't, for example. Proposed server split guaranteed blocks player from ever try pvp and in reverse - don't allow retired PVPer to play peaceful PVE later.
As I've said in several places before, I wish Elite was like The Elder Scrolls Online, where the main playing area is co-op PvE only, while the areas which allow PvP you have to choose to go to and still have the option to avoid actual PvP when you go there...

But as said, all you need to do is give people more modes and locations to choose to play the game how they want, with people who want the same thing, not mixed in with others that will be mutually irritated!

There's no need to either ban any playstyle completely or give people cart blanch to do it anywhere they want as Elite does so now!

So all this said, the main playing area or server should be PvE only, with specific areas or servers supporting still avoidable, but completely allowed PvP, which should satisfy everybody! 🤔😯😂😀🤘

I guess that there will only be one BGS but in "legacy" there will be no inf effects. I know that's not exactly what FD have said, but TBH what they've said is unclear. I can't imagine them wanting to run two BGSs.

(There remains the possibility that they'll foul up and the legacy game will still affect the BGS...)

Well, that what they said... 2 BGS, 2 Galaxies, 2 diverging commander profiles

Presumably because the potential new Live changes may affect the Legacy or may be impossible due to Legacy.
The split may not be as easy for FDev as shutting down 3.8 completely, but at least the players will still have a 3.8 to play

Edit: so the most of the initial shock diminishes, the most it looks like a really nice gesture from FD to keep the legacy mode alive (it remains to be seen for how long tho - the indefinitely open transfers only lasted 2.5 months 😂 )
