Elite Dangerous Update 14 Release Schedule

Adding my voice to the VR topic.

It’s been over a year and 14 updates which have improved performance. High time to address the ‘grey panel surround’ criticisms and provide a basic VR camera implementation so we can explore on foot in VR using a gamepad and really experience the vistas…

can we please get an update please on a roadmap on VR support on Odyssey/legs for updates 15/16.

All we need is to add the VR view (that Carrier jump sequences and the free cam trick suggest is there but not fully implemented) and add a HUD. No need for motion controllers - using a gamepad is more than good enough to enjoy….

Annoyingly, I finally had some free money and was on the edge of taking the plunge to buy a VR headset; I tried one once at a ED expo and wasn't impressed, but it seemed like they'd improved since. I was already starting to research the damn things and plan it out ... and then they announced they weren't supporting VR going forward. Shame.

You can still do everything in VR you could in Horizons - but on foot is (I suspect) a last minute addition to get it shipped and it hasn’t been improved upon since - due to other priorities. Now performance is better and there is dev time for ‘story’ and ‘gameplay’ - there MUST be room for a few improvements to be made to change a good VR game to an Amazing one again….

ED in VR still isn't that great even in 3.8 so no loss really. Ironically Odyssey has the most VR development effort the game's seen since 2014 because they had to work on the feature to draw the flatscreen in a grey void when on-foot. Everything else was just retrofitted into VR with little effort as an afterthought and it really shows.

I cannot seem to get it to work and I have no idea why.
Hello,

If you haven't done so already, you can join their discord server where they go over everything in detail. There is also an FAQ. Their discord link is somewhere in the app, I think either under settings, or help.

EDIT: As others have said, the game is down at the moment for preparations for U14. It did not occur to me until now, but EDHM most likely needs to communicate with the servers in order to access your Commander's profile, much like INARA.

The VR itself was amazing at the expo. The problem was the headset in use at the time, which had a mesh of little black hexagons all through the image.

Well headsets have certainly gotten better in that regard. Unfortunately ED has always been a pixelly mess in VR for me, regardless of what I did to the headset, compositor, or in-game scaling and resolution...

Only until it becomes obvious that Wales and Iran are going to win.

Us Wales boyo taffs don't want Iran to win!

Or the USA for that matter. So in case, I've gifted 11 EDH licenses to Qatar so Bale/Ramsey can put four in while the England team update their launcher.

(To be fair it's probably our best chance of staying in)

Right now the thing I'm most curious about is whether the patch will fix the current issues with auto-launch.

(Since my Cutter just rammed into the station wall again as I head out to park my carrier in an uninhabited system...)
I removed auto launch, seems to happen when queued alot

Odyssey and Horizons have always been fantastic in VR. Screen door effect was only on the old headsets. If yours is pixelly even on recent headsets, then it's your settings. VR implementation (apart from on foot) is phenomenal with the required horsepower. I haven't played 'flat' since 2014

Forgive my ignorance and for just jumping in but when you are on foot do you still use your headset but it just doesn't show VR or do you have to remove headset and use a screen?

They really haven't. It's always felt quickly tacked on just for a marketing point. As I already mentioned I did everything I could with the settings - always pixelly, even on a Quest 2, on which other VR games including HL:A and ETS2 look pretty good.
It's cool for maybe flying/driving around and gawking at the scenary for half an hour or so but I wouldn't even try and do anything else with it.

I have an HP Reverb 2 and I love VR play using it.
I have a 2070 graphics card, an I7 and have quite high settings and find it so imersive. Very clear and colourful non pixilated image with no screen door.
I sometime have to play non VR if I am dog minding for instance and I find it nowhere near as good and although the graphics on my 4k HDR monitor are a bit better they do not compensate for the total immersion in VR.
