Mod hat off:it's not delivering any critical services, point is that it impacts the perception of competence and professionalism, if it is happening regularly then it points to a significant failure in how they are developing software.
No it's doesn't. Not from what I've seen and I've been around several years. No one thinks they are incompetent or unprofessional due to pushing an update a few hours. If you want the best version of a game people can wait, and i'm sure they don't mind doing so.

mi5 won't be happy you divulged that.... wait til i tell the mi7 people.I too am a contractor working for a government entity, working on an application that holds data on millions of clients. When it goes down for hours it is viewed as a serious problem.

Nothing surprises me anymore lol
That's overstating things a bit! I love Elite Dangerous. It remains my perfect game. I do not however equate a delayed update to a top level domain for an entire government going down.

Got home from work an hour ago. Even left the PC on to catch the update while I was there.
