Me when they revealed the blue wildebeest:

For me personally is a very solid a excellent pack, IMO the best animal pack that we have received

-The blue wildebeest is common animal zoo and it's better than the Black, I don't know why many people are saying that is a simple "reskin"
  • Emu is a big W and one of my most wanted animals
  • Armadillo of course I love it, an animal common where I live
  • Wallaby is very good but personally i didn't want it at the start but is fine
  • Butterflies are awesome and the Christmas seller of this time hahaha, impressive that we've received 5 species
  • Caracal, stripped Hyena and the Maned wolf, are a excellent choices and are brilliant ā¤ļø

I like this pack and the selection of species. Excited for the Maned Wolf. Nice addition for the South American areas in our zoos. Striped Hyena and Caracal are cool too. And I'm okay with the wildebeest. It is a common zoo species, more so than the black wildebeest, and will round out our African Plains exhibits. And I'll probably be criticized for saying this, but for a Grassland pack I wish we got the Black Rhino. I know folks will say that we already have two rhinos, but the white, Indian and black rhinos are the three kept in zoos and would be nice to have in PZ. And the black rhino probably needs the strongest conservation efforts.

One person said that. The rest of us are saying we wanted something else instead.

On that note, the blackbuck. The Indian plains are nearly as famous as the African ones but got nothing in this pack. The blackbuck is relatively highly-requested, moderately well-known, and would have taken just as much effort to create out of another antelope (the horns would have been the most challenging part, but the Nile lechwe would have worked as a pretty decent base).

Kind of feels like India is being shafted a lot these days. šŸ˜…

It feels after the whole basegame addition with the generally small roster of Indian animals, there has been little to no thought into India despite being one of the main Asian themes in game
We got the dhole, and the water buffalo, which both are Indian animals, but I was really hoping for something to mix in with my Indian rhinos (besides peafowl).

They’ve gotten small stuff like the wild water buffalo dhole and the ASCO but it is missing huge notable species like langurs blackbuck gaur and the like

Hayo Zookeepers!

It's time to venture into the tall grass to find animals hiding in it. Introducing the Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal Pack which will be making its way to you on 13 December alongside Free Update 1.12!

What's hiding in the tall grass, you ask? A plethora of fascinating wildlife that calls the steppes, plains, and prairies across the world their home!

Say hello to the Nine-Banded Armadillo, with its extraordinary armour; the Maned Wolf with its impressively long legs; the curious Emu, with its recognisable grey plumage; the agile and elusive Caracal; the remarkable Red-necked Wallaby; the scavenging Striped Hyena; and the striking Blue Wildebeest. These come with new and unique behaviours, like the Nine-Banded Armadillo's preening and sniffing, or the Caracal's bouncing and floppy ears. We're sure both you and your guests will enjoy these new species!

In addition, you can also add a stunning assortment of five colourful species of Butterfly to populate your Walkthrough Exhibits, including: Cloudless Sulphur, European Peacock, Menelaus Blue Morpho, Monarch, and Old World Swallowtail. These flying insects can be kept together as the game’s first-ever interspecies-compatible exhibit animals. šŸ¦‹

You'll also be able to test your management skills with the brand new Career Scenario set within the picturesque grasslands of Argentina! You'll be working alongside wealthy socialite Tiffany Summers to help her learn the importance of animal care and animal sanctuaries in species conservation. You'll be relocating the diverse inhabitants of her sprawling mansion to a more suitable new home. We're sure your zoo management magic can make life much better for these animals.

This new Career Scenario follows after the Career Scenario from the Twilight Pack, and we are incredibly excited to continue this narrative! Don't worry though, you won't have to have played the previous Career Scenario to follow the story, and you can jump in completely fresh if you want to.

The Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal pack will be available for purchase for Ā£7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam from 13 December. If you want to be notified when the game is available, then head on over to Steam and wishlist it now! Please remember that you'll only be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal Pack if you already own the base game of Planet Zoo.

Brilliant pack, absolute genius

Well, now we can officially say that Western seasonal themes have no relevance anymore to what Frontier decides to theme PZ DLC around (and I personally see this as a plus, no more holiday decorations!) Not a single animal in this pack is associated with cold climates.

Glad to see this DLC will be an animal pack, as the past two DLC have been catered to builders (I’m a builder and all about new pieces, but everyone should get their turn at what they want!) In a similar vain, I’m not personally all that excited for this DLC’s animal roster, but I recognize that for a lot of players in the community it checks a lot of boxes. There’s a number of highly-requested species in it and majority are from regions that desperately needed more representation (Australia, South America, and the Middle East). Additionally, this is the first time I can say that I’m genuinely excited for a DLC’s exhibit species. Walkthrough-exhibits with their removable barriers are perfect for butterflies and I can see a lot of beautiful, customized butterfly houses coming out of this! Honestly, I wish that the Twilight Pack would’ve received some moth species instead of the fruit bat as a walkthrough-exhibit. In my opinion, animals like the fruit bat (and medium to large birds) look so clunky on the obvious exhibit loops.

I’m grateful for the numerous butterfly species and am glad to see they can be inter-mixed too, but truly hope that this isn’t a sign of what’s to come for medium to large, flying avians. Eagles, macaws, vultures, etc. would all look ridiculous on exhibit loops.

As for the habitat lineup, there are a lot of highly requested species from less-represented regions which is great. I’m just not over-the-moon on how they were all brought together like this. Additionally, this DLC does feel a little Carnivoran heavy, with another cat, dog, and hyena taking up almost half the habitat roster. Also bummed to see birds get shafted again. There’s so many iconic, primarily terrestrial birds from grasslands. And I’m afraid that this may have been many of thems only shot at squeezing into a DLC theme. Secretary Bird, Grey Crowned Crane, Kori Bustard, Seriema, Ground Hornbills, Burrowing Owl, Guineafowls, etc. would have all been perfect inclusions for a DLC like this. None of the above mentioned species would need new mechanics either, so that can’t be used as an excuse. The Emu is great to now have, but it fills a similar niche to the already in-game Ostrich and Cassowary. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to now have Australia’s Emu. But it doesn’t quite scratch the itch many of us have when we say we are wanting ā€œBIRDSā€.

I’m also not surprised at all to see an antelope be present in a Grasslands Pack, as after all they are tightly associated with the biome. I just don’t find the species selected, the Blue Wildebeest, very essential when compared to all the other antelope species not in PZ. We already have it’s close relative, the Black Wildebeest. It would’ve been nice for PZ to get it’s first Asian antelope species, or our first small African antelope. A Blackbuck, Nilgai, Dik-Dik, or Klipspringer would’ve offered more unique uses than the Blue Wildebeest.

Only one habitat species in this pack is from a taxonomic Order not already present in PZ, and that is the Nine-Banded Armadillo. Glad to see an armadillo species finally enter PZ. Additionally, it’s a species native to both Central and South America, two pretty vacant regions in PZ.

None of these species were terrible picks, it’s just that outside of the Armadillo and Butterflies, everything feels ā€œsame-yā€ and repetitive. And there’s nothing wrong with some repetition, not all DLC species need to be from unrepresented Orders/Families and have unique animations/interactions. But when almost the entire pack is just an extension of Genus PZ already has and will behave the same as already in-game species, there isn’t much that really drives me to go buy this DLC upon its release.

Agree on almost everything.

Excellent and new additions are the armadillo, the maned wolf (unique canid and highly requested by the community), the first wallaby and butterflies.

Good additions are the caracal (we already have several felines but the caracal is quite unique in characteristics) and the emu.

Absolutely "copy and paste" in classic Frontier style to fill slots at each DLC are the stryped hyena (beautiful animal, I love it, but always a clone of the hyena already present in the game), but above all the wildebeest is a real mess...They could have chosen tons of other unique ungulates that live in the grasslands, but instead… :cautious:

Hang on, I'm still a little confused about the butterflies. We're getting five species, but the pack is still only 'eight animals'. Wouldn't it be 'twelve animals'? Why are all the butterfly species counted as one?
Maybe because they are so similar and don't warrant another space as a separate animal? If so that's good news for the future with multiple species of similar animals

Absolutely "copy and paste" in classic Frontier style to fill slots at each DLC are the stryped hyena

I dont really think I would consider it copy and paste as it looks it will have some unique thing with its back hair getting raised when fighting or when it will be stressed, so it will have some unique twist to it. Also the Wildebeest is not a copy and paste as there had to be work done on the model, unlike for example the tapir which is just different skin.

If we should never recieve any "clone" animals that reuse rigs or animation, we would not get as many animals as we do now and would miss on some important variety. Sure maybe there were better options, but hey, animal packs always get at least some easier to make animals, but its more animals. If the rest of the roster is great, I am fine with some obligatory "clones".

Isn't that basically what a "copy and paste" is though? If only the skin sees changes, even at the model level, it's still just a reskin.
