Ships I need your help building an AX Ship and go for the goids

Hello All,

i´m new at the forum, but not new at the game. Due to the awesome console to PC transfer i found my motivation again to play ED. The graphics and loading times are something different on a pc compared to an old xbox one, it´s like playing a new game :). But now back to my main reason:

The story seems to get awesome and i want to join into fighting goids. Since i´ve only hunted some scouts back in the days with my FDL, i´m a beginner in this.

I have following ships:
  • An engineered Fer-De-Lance
  • An engineered Imperial Clipper
  • A fully engineered Corvette
  • A fully engineered Imperial Clipper with Guardian Tech

Right now i try to put the Vette and Clipper into coriolis to show it to you, but what is the best ship to use against goids? And what should i equip?
Please help o7 C4mp
If i ever give you any advice on AX stuff ignore it! Just came to say welcome to the mad house.

Due to the current turn of events, I figured it may be the time to finally build an AX fighter. The Chieftain build shown on AXI looks fine - the Chief is also my favourite ship for regular bounty hunting - but I'll have to go and get the Guardian blueprints. (I went there before, but after getting the FSDB and shield thingy I was too fed up to grind through those Guardian sites a 3rd and 4th time).

So, question... I understand that there's no way around the Gauss cannon, but is the GMRP absolutely necessary? It seems to be less than 10% better than the standard package, and adds power draw. How crucial is it really to have it?
As you may guess, I have never fought a single Goid in my life, so I'm a total noob at the whole AX business.

Gmrp... If that's the module protection then yes you should have one. It kicks in on the yellow lightening attacks giving a bit of durability to ship systems. As to gauss... I don't like em. Modified shards for me. Haven't tried soloing anything bigger than a cyclops though.

Dammit, I just read up on some recent news and realized I missed some nice CG rewards just by 2 weeks. :p
Haven't played much ED since ca April 21, so I missed basically all of that Thargoid plot up to now.

i'm building and engineering your recommended shieldless chieftan. A couple of quesions: Why 2 2b gauss cannons and 2 1b gauss cannons? The ship has space for 3 of the larger 2b cannons. Why not go with 3 of the 2b cannons and 1 of the 1b cannons? Also how do you get to the combat area with no fuel scoop? Should i omit the repair limpet controller and add a fuel scoop? I am very good at killing the easier scouts (using your recommended Krait Mk II) but this is my first attempt at the Interceptors so if my questions seem ill informed it's because they are.

I would also like to know this.
I would also like to know if this build has changed or needs updating since Update 14. I've word about new AX weapons now being available everywhere. But I'm not sure if that's correct.

Haven’t done any ‘good hunting in a long while but Scouts were easy enough in, well, basically anything with AX Multis so long as you don’t get hit by too many caustic missiles and you can stomach fixed or turreted weapons.

I’ve tried Vulture against Scouts and was fun but I generally prefer medium ships where you can stack more hull and have some weapon variation.

The FAS, Chieftain and Krait MkII were all decent with the Krait probably being the best and the FAS, in particular, being a bit of a liability against bigger stuff due to its limited shields and hard points. I cooked my Chief by having 4x C2 Gaus on it which I guess is the reason folks are suggesting the smaller sizes? Also, convergence perhaps?

I’ve taken on the lowest Cyclops both on my own and in wings of 2 - 4 people.

Solo, I’ve always had to flee as I just can’t deal with the swarm … sooner or later it just obliterates my shields and my hull in one fell swoop and I wind up limping home with a few measly percentage points of hull! Maybe with more practise.

In a wing - with at least one person who knows their way around a flechette launcher - it’s been relatively fun and I can usually get some decent hits in on the hearts with the ol’ Gaus … though I’m hearing Guardian weps don’t work anymore so no idea what we’re supposed to use now?

Buy your fuel scoop. Store your repair limpet. Park up at your intended system. Transfer your limpets. Store fuel scoop. As to the gauss cannons could well be a heat or power issue. I got a krait 2. I got a chieftain. I found the krait had more module surviveability.. My krait is just a little quicker too. I found the phantom to be useful in cz cos its very fast but not so good in solo interceptor combat.

I was in ax cz and my gaurdian weapons seemed OK. Maybe there is a twist coming in the story. I hate the swarm. What you need to do is don't drive through it. It steps up the aggression. Be aware of the 7 minute limit on killing the exposed heart. That ups the aggression too. Shields are a liability against swarm because of the phasing effect. Hope that helps.

The new interceptor disables the guards' weapons and this cannot be neutrilized. It is necessary to carry additional Earth AX weapons.

I saw somebody mention flechettes. Can they harm an interceptor? And this new one that can disable the guardian weapons.... Is that like a wave effect that can be out boosted?

I am aware that you’re not supposed to fly through the swarm … 😂

Did not know there was a specific limit on taking out individual hearts - that’s good info, thanks!

Also … do you think no shields is better than, say. 2/300 MJ BiWeaves, which I what I used to have on my AX ship?

I’m thinking I might go Chieftain this time … 2x C1 Gauss, 1xC2 Gauss, 1xC3 AX MC so I can swat the occasional Scout and then some TV beams in the remaining slots?

Also - I have a pair of those fancy rapid-fire plasma chargers from the CG … are they any good?!

Been reading around … I think that might be in specific systems - maybe even only inside the “maelstrom”?

I thought they’d just stopped working anywhere but it might not be that bad!!

but what is the best ship to use against goids? And what should i equip?

This may be an unpopular opinion, but.... does it matter.

Last night I went to ferry evacuees from outposts. All I found were missions to destroy scouts... so.. I had fun killing scouts in the worst AX build you can probably imagine. https://s.orbis.zone/l2mp
  • 2x multicannons (non-AX) and a frag cannon
  • Lots of heavy Passenger cabins with no reinforcement value
  • No caustic resistance, no decontamination limpet but it was easy to overheat
Now I'm not going back into combat in that. I ended the night buying another ship and ferrying some spare modules together to make another new terrible build, and I'm just waiting for ED to start so I can go buy some AX mcs, so it should be better. But I will learn from this and then try something else...

Hope you end up having fun in whatever build you come up with.
