Elite Dangerous Exobiology Rank Threshold Rebalance Information

Or better would be if they could replace the credit-based rank system with an experience point based system, where every species gives a certain amount of XP based on their rarity. Frontier probably has the sampling history of all players, so they could calculate the current total XP for all players.
They have to have it to be able to tell if you already sampled something.

Given the lack of feedback on this topic, I guess FDev has gone into silent mode. Say goodbye to your ranks and progress, this will probably see no fix or change going forward.

To be honest, the exo-stuff is a game-loop that will really only appeal to certain gamers. If you like exploring planets looking for the various bits of flora, that gameplay works just as it did before. What's changed is the payout and rank thresholds. If you move the pay, you also have to move the thresholds, but as is only right and proper, nobody is losing a stated rank due to this change.

It does mean though that some people (like me) now have a rank higher than it should be based on the thresholds. Practically all of my exobio stuff was done before the recent updates so any credits I earned there will look small next to the new row of thresholds for exobiology. As a result, I expect to sit at 0% geneticist for some time.
It doesn't really matter though. I did the exobiology stuff because I enjoyed doing it - not just to push up some pixel progress bar.

Those of you that say you aren't enjoying the exo game loop - I feel obliged to ask - why are you doing it then? There are so many other parts of the game with different kinds of offer. Why not play the bits of the game that you enjoy most?

Except for this guy: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ld-rebalance-information.611830/post-10029205 .

Could be a "bug", but if you hand MORE samples in now, you will be "rewarded" with a lower rank. If this is not "losing a stated rank due to this change", I don't know what is.

some of us are motivated by gaining Rank... even if painful, it is an accomplishment and know you suffered to gain it. It would be cool to be Elite in all categories. But now I am very demotivated. Yes, it is a person problem but a problem for me non-the-less.

I turned in exobiology data last night that turned out to be worth 1.8 Billion credits after returning from a two month exploration session. My rank has not budged at all, still 40 ish% Taxonomist. At the same time in exploration I got an instant promotion to Elite 2 (from Elite1) with my 300Mcr data - so is there usually a long delay in exobiology rank adjusting, or have I encountered a bug (I have relogged since, and no change) - as the rebalance won't have held me back with tat level of data turn in?
That sounds totally broken. Did you actually get the 1.8B credits from Vista Geonomics, or was it just the displayed value? I read somewhere else that there was a discrepancy between displayed and payed amounts.
At this point I can really only suggest everybody holds back handing in exo-data until this mess is resolved one way or the other, if you care for rank at all.

Yep, I did receive the full 1.8 billion in credits, just no rank movement.

Can you check your codex stats? If the factor 15 of rank progression holds, Ecologist would be at somewhere around 2B. In this case, your Taxonomist progress is true under the new system.
Just logged in and checked, my codex currently shows 1.6 billion from organic data, and 1.3 billion from first logged. I haven't followed how much is required for ranking etc, but if turning in that 1.8 billion in one hit has basically achieved no tangible progress, that does indeed... suck somewhat.

Skipped a bunch of pages, but my take on the whole thing is that Frontier seem to do this with a particular activity to promote engagement in it. We had this with passengers (Smeaton) & mining (Borann), now it's the exobio's turn. I imagine it will continue like this for a bit and then get nerfed back to 'normal' levels. As they say.. make hay while the sun shines.

As for the one species per set of scans, I'm fine with it. Last night I just scanned a moon with 8 bio sigs and had no real problems. But then I consider it a pretty chill activity in the game and I mostly enjoy the vistas that come with it, but that's just me ofc.

Woa. That suspiciously looks like first logged bonus does not affect the progress at all. LOL. That's what makes the bigger payout value now AFAIK. Now this is speculation, but holy cow, if it is true, I'd label FDev King of all Trolls.
