Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I will pretty surprised if we get an Islands pack that is not a scenery pack, but if that were to happen, my ideal Island Animals pack would be:
  • Tasmanian devil
  • Matschie's tree kangaroo
  • Brown kiwi
  • Fossa
  • Victoria crowned pigeon
  • Blue penguin
  • Walrus
    • Lorikeet species or a flying fox species

Kind of because I have never seen them in the open enclosures. They would be much better for walkthrough exibits.
Their behaviour is not far from a peafowl. They don't fly often.

Nothing is stopping us from putting mesh or a roof over their habitat, if we like realism.

Caracals and clouded leopards are also rarely kept in an open enclosure. Should they be in the exhibit for that reason?

And penguins. I've heard of 2 species:

Seems like mostly the must haves for islands are the Tasmanian Devil, Fossa, a Kiwi and a Tree Kangaroo. That’s even my habitat picks for a scenery pack, but it would be nice to get something from the Americas as well. The entire Caribbean or Galapagos species. I think the big hurdle there is finding a species that is on those islands and doesn’t have a huge presence elsewhere: or at least associated with the islands.

For me, that’s why i have to include the Fossa. Even though its from the African continent, it keeps the pack from being completely a Oceania-centered pack.

Hawaiian Goose or Rhinoceros Iguana (as a habitat species) are the best choices from around America IMO.
Cuban Hutia would also be a fun choice, but I might be more alone with that one.

Looking at your must haves, thats leave you with:
  • cuban crocodile
  • american flamingo
  • channel island fox
  • vancouver marmot

  • cuban crocodile
Never really thought about how cool of a pick Cuban crocs would be for an Islands Pack/Animal Pack before:
  • Great for representing the Caribbean, which generally has limited options for habitat species (would also really love the rhinoceros iguana as another Caribbean reptile)
  • Would be only the second crocodile species (crocodile, not crocodilian) in the game and the first from the Americas
  • Gives us a crocodile that actually looks good given the saltie is quite low quality, even for the base game
  • Would almost certainly be differentiated from all crocodilians currently in the game with a new galloping animation when running (I'd also hope for this in the unlikely scenario we ever get the freshwater crocodile). It's one of their most well known characteristics, adding them without it would be bizarre

I know most people are done with crocodilians, but there's still quite a few I'd like to see.

You see what i mean right? Not saying its bad but oof im having a hard time differentiating crocodiles

Probably the easiest to recognize is the spectacled caiman, you can see a small stripe pattern in its down jaw, and up the eyes are like small spikes, or spectacles, also the size plays an important role. But with the other 2 i understand u, they are too similar for my eyes 😅, the Nile has a more green-brown colour and less stripes

Nile crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles are near identical (the best way to distinguish them is by looking at the scales on the back of the neck), hence why the nile isn't really among my wanted crocodilian species (West African slender-snouted crocodile FTW). Cuban crocodiles however are distinct looking to me thanks to their significantly smaller size, brighter colours, slightly different head shape and more thickset legs, and they're also quite different behaviourally given they're more terrestrial and social.

Caimans being hard to distinguish from crocodiles seems a bit of a stretch to me though, they're not even part of the same family and have a very differently shaped head and patterning. But maybe I just have more experience with identifying crocodilians than most people.

Here are the rules:

Crocs have a V-shaped head, with both bottom and upper teeth sticking out
Gators have a U-shaped head, with only upper teeth sticking out
Gharials are obvious, right?
Caimans, although similar to gators, seem to have more compact heads

A very cool idea that i have seen recently is an "Exhibit Animal pack". With an update that introduce us: nule exhibit glass, various shapes, forms and sizes for the exhibits and the possibility to take the iguanas in normal exhibits. Animals like the king cobra, the panther chameleon, the frill-necked lizard, the blue poison dart frog and others can come with this update. Also more animations to the exhibit animals, they are a bit dead for me (excepting the recent ones like the axolotl and the WE bats and butterflies). Not the most possible, but i think the exhibits deserve more love, counting that we have an entire jungle for a smoll cockroach
