Spring dlc Speculation 2023

I think people keep trying to shoehorn the porcupine into a desert or petting zoo pack even though it doesn't make sense because they can't think of a good theme it would go with.

I agree about this. However, one pack a Porcupine WOULD fit into would be a ‘Children’s Zoo Pack’. I often see Crested Porcupines in Children’s Zoo, along with other things like Meerkats, Coatis and Tamarins that perhaps are best not touched but still are small and cute enough to be included. A pack like this COULD include two ‘petting zoo’ animals and two more ‘zoo’ animals that all can be found in Children’s Zoos. I’d say:
  • Crested Porcupine
  • Golden Lion Tamarin
  • Nigerian Dwarf Goat
  • Scottish Highland Cattle

Well pretty much any animal that children know about or cute enough could be featured in a children's zoo. Ha I've even seen a American black Bear in a children's zoo area

How about a coastal pack? That would be unexpected

Great White Pelican
Sea Otter
Little Blue Penguin
Walrus
Coconut Crab

This would be one of those surprise packs that I end up really loving (like the Grasslands Pack). Especially the pelican and crab, they would really scratch an itch that has yet to be scratched in Planet Zoo!

With porcupines, wild boars and black bears, its going to be a "learn a valuable lesson for life" kind of petting zoo. I like your thinking! I also feel that guest are not interacting with things enough. Playgrounds would be cool, and that would work well with the petting zoo pack that the devs have been wanting to make for years. Walrusses would also be neat. Maybe the coastal pack could get a " 90s atlantis theme park" aesthetic, so everything colorful, and obviously fake, and a bit obnoxious... i would love that. But I guess thats to niche to be a realistic expectation.

Going by design themes and not by animals, southern europe, middle america and everything east of germany is not really represented. I would like some Middle american vibes. Or another asian theme, we only have two and they are cool, but we don't have anything at all for the middle east.

I would recommend blending themes by using the vast array of building materials for niche architecture. I have built examples of at least half of these themes before

  • Middle America - I assume that's central America like Mexico. We already have a good selection of design themes when you combine the south American dlc and north African dlc. I have successfully made several immersive mexican themed reptile houses using plaster, limestone and terracotta roofing. General wall decorations from the north African dlc funnily enough fit Spanish/mexican architecture quite well
  • Middle east - again north Africa and the base game India can work quite well here. The typical dome like structures could be a challenge to build but still possible
  • East Europe - hmm well Europe and twilight dlcs work well here. Not familiar with architecture here so can't advise much
  • Asia - yes we need a south east Asia pack like say Thailand. I have tried and failed to emulate architecture designs here without going into the thousands of pieces
  • Southern Europe? - well Europe dlc and base game has the content for that

While we can build things to represent those themes, having pieces that are not blueprints, but individual pieces, would be great to have. Like with Bavarian and Tudor themes. You make take a wall and then put the planks on it, but then you have a blueprint with several pieces in it, sometimes a lot depending on how intricately you build. Having some pre-designed individual objects would cut down on the pieces used and would be more accurate in terms of alignment.

I'd love American Prairie, Log Cabin, Bavarian/Tudor, Middle Eastern and Central American sets. What's probably needed most, at least for me, is a log or wood piece that runs horizontal, not vertical like we have in the game, with the African wood set. But that's just one individual piece.

yeah i totally endorse new themes since that makes my job creating these kind of buildings much easier, i dont always like building with multiple themes since its so exhausting for complex architecture and never mind the lack of good wall decorations that have a consistant theme with them. Wall decorations, statues and signs are in need for a desperate expansion with the nice trend we are getting now but even the base game animals need that aswell

Funnily enough i dont make blueprints at all 🤣 I just suffer through the work and do every thing by hand

Oh my gosh, by hand? that's very tedious to me but if that's how you like to do, more power to you. I had to at least make a blueprinted set of bavarian style wall pieces, even though they're not perfect in alignment I just couldn't even imagine doing those from scratch each time I wanted to build in that theme.

well ive been on a 2 week break from burning myself out again (6th time in the past year) and just started again if thats power to me yeah 🤣. I really should make blueprints of stuff to help ease the workload

By east Europe I think they mean classic Russian architecture

Pretty sure we get a scenery pack. Islands could be the choice. Scenery will be interesting but I could Imagines either one or two specific islands which are chosen for scenery. If we should get surprisingly an animal pack I think it could be called again a "-lands" pack (Woodlands, Tropical Woodlands, Drylands, Highlands, ...) . But honestly it can be everything and we have no idea which it will be (which was shown by the last year) . Hopefully a few or at least one of my favourite animals will be chosen but I take everything (some species with a bit less and some with a bit more enthusiasm).

I hope we get animal packs from now on 🤷🏼‍♀️ the only thing I'd like, architecture wise, is horizontal wooden wall set.

I'd like all the ungulates and all the small cats please. And also a rhea and more wallabies.
Ohh, rheas... i hope so much to get them. They are similar to ostriches, but they are awesome, almost a must for South American zones

Great White Pelican
Sea Otter
Little Blue Penguin
Walrus
Coconut Crab
Here's my take on it using the Animal Pack structure:
  • Sea Otter
  • Pacific Walrus
  • Rockhopper Penguin
  • Green Sea Turtle
  • Marine Iguana
  • West Indian Manatee
  • Southern Stingray
  • Could Atlantic Puffins work as a WE animal? If not, then maybe I could introduce a touch pool with tide pool animals, such as sea stars.

I'm still holding out hope for a carnivore pack:
  • Coyote
  • American Black Bear
  • Wolverine
  • Fossa
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Fishing Cat
  • King Cobra OR Emerald Tree Boa

Could Atlantic Puffins work as a WE animal?
I don't know I think the WE is a little too small for an active coastal bird imo. Most aviaries from zoochat seem to be around 500m2 minimum with lots of water so I would really class it as a habitat-aviary bird along with many other coastal birds like guillemots, other puffins, gulls etc.
Having seen puffins in a breeding colony irl really shows how fast the small birds (small by coastal standard) really go

They could make a new type where one side of the pathway is an underwater viewing but I think puffins would work better if we could customize their habitats
