Yesterday I built a pair of habitats for the common wombat and Tasmanian devil. It was a fairly quick and simple build, and while I think the enclosures turned out fine I couldn't help but feel somewhat dissatisfied with them. After all, the wombat is my favourite animal in the game and the devil my most wanted, so I felt their habitats should be a bit more interesting. Today, I ended up deleting what I had done and started again.
Cleland Wildlife Park and Gorge Wildlife Park, two of my local zoos, both have wombat shelters that allow you to watch them through one-way glass as they sleep in their faux burrows, and so I thought that'd be a cool idea to integrate here for both the wombats and the devils. This design eventually evolved into a more extravagant viewing area that unexpectedly incorporated a veranda as well as several elements from the platypus habitat. Thankfully the hitbox gods had mercy on me today and the shelters ended up fully functional, at least for the wombat (can't test for the devil yet for obvious reasons).
With the Tasmanian devil habitat, I decided to make it look as if the zoo was still in the process of renovating a previous habitat for an expected batch of devils that would be coming in the future, hence the wheelbarrow and waste container and whatnot. Just a fun bit of lore building while waiting for them to finally make their PZ debut.
The wombat habitat actually turned out to be my favourite of the two. I'm happy to finally integrate them into a larger zoo given I've only done a one-off build for them before!
