What did you do in Planet Zoo today?

I prepared the Crane Habitat in Moonstone Park , still have to decide how to fence it.

And finished the outside of the indoor habitat I started yesterday for the Fennecs in Unity.

If those lattice style frames are windows, I recommend putting a black primitive rectangle or the one way windows behind them to look like actual windows

@KönigDerKaffeebohnen
I like your style more than mine, but I don't know if I'll ever be there. I feel like my buildings still always look "gamey", while some of your stuff looks like a photo from a real zoo.
It's probably best to take ages. Cesar (the YouTuber) builds on some of his stuff for days. I catch myself being impatient too often and just wanting to make progress, you know?
You said it yourself. The reason why mine looks so good is that i can spend ages building on it, eventhough i really gotta say that my newer stuff is like 10 times better then my older stuff.
When i play planet zoo im in no rush, i just follow the best advise my art teacher ever gave me: Never do something what you dont feel like doing, do a bit here do a bit there and slowly but surly everything will be finished, nice and detailed and most importantly filled with effort and love in the details.
I just chillax and get done what i get done and when i feel like starting something else on the other side of the zoo then i do that.
This also means i often have things unfinished for a loooooooooong time, but when i get the moment of inspiration and start building it looks great in the end.
What also helps is that i got quite the collection of favored go to pieces. That otter bridge went really fast once i started it because its just my usual go to of arctic wood beams, africa low wood wall, mesh and more arctic wood. The fence for the water? Just bamboo and mesh. The other fence at the back and side of the habitat? African low wood wall + arctic wood decorations and the africa colorable painted beams.
By now i can make new custom fences that look great in under 10 minutes and its just some experience and experimentation.
Same for the plant pallete, as i mostly only use temperate, tundra, aquatic, grassland and taiga plants from europe and asia so by now i know how what i have and how to make them look good. It also meant that both europe and twillight were quite a treat regarding plants for me ;)
Id also helps with overall zoo cohesion, if everywhere has roughly the same foliage and similar fences and pieces used, it looks more like they all fit together into one real place.

Agreed. I have no inspiration for my crocodile farm in Cozumel, and when I try to build something I'm not happy with, so I restart.

That's also how I am in my other hobbies, such as making board games and writing books (or a combination of).
I need to be in the mood and stimulate my mind to make something I can look back on and proudly say: "Check it out. Pretty cool, right?"

Didnt have much time today, but i did get some nice planting done in my tropical house.

I also found this sweet lady in the sandbox shop and thinking about keeping her instead of my two spectacle caimans, but im not sure.
Any opinions if she should stay here or get another spot somewhere else?

Leucistic Crocs are rare in general, so I'd say give her her own little hangout, but maybe make it look like they're the same environment. Know what I mean?
What's her name?

I haven't even gotten to Planet Car Park, yet! The plan from here is a little guest amenities courtyard, a butterfly house, and then the entrance. And then to come back over here and figure out what animals I'm going to add.

Did my best to try and mimic one of those sand things they have in smoking areas for stubbing out cigarettes. Not a fan of smoking myself but I'm trying to get a smidge of an attempt at realism here, haha.

I have a general question to those working on tropical houses, indoor habitats and things like that: Do you build the outside first (the building) or the habitat first and build the house around it?

I go with a rough idea of how big the habitats are and do the paths first, building shell (like walls) then the habitats. Once the habitats are done one by one then I finish off the interior and place the roof. Indoor habitats are made in sandbox since you cannot make realistically sized inside habitats while meeting space requirements

Both.
I usually start building the front, start filling it up and when i have a rough idear of what i put into it i move on to build the shell around what i planned. That way i dont limit my creative space but also can estimate well how the building itself needs to look.
I go step 1 step 2 step 1 step 2 till i have a full in and extrior.

Both, kinda.
I generally have an idea of what species I want to put in, and then I try to build a rough foundation for that I want the shape of the building to look like. I set up the path, divide up the space by where I want the habitat(s), build up a little more of the walls and things to see how it looks, add in the animals to see if they can get where I want them to go (or if there's enough space, if I'm not in Sandbox). Then continue decorating + building up the walls until it's all finished.

Speaking of, I've put together my butterfly house! featuring 4 walkthrough habitats, each with a different butterfly species. Might add some more details and I was thinking about swapping the walls out to gridded glass stuff for a fancier roof, but for now I'm pleased with it!

So, usually this goes terribly wrong, but I decided to preplan most of Unity to follow @KönigDerKaffeebohnen advise to work here and there, depending on my mood.
The last time I preplanned so much I felt overwhelemed, but here goes nothing.

The Land of the cold is still unplanned and missing on the map and one habitat in sunland and a few in the jungle. But quite honestly, I might overdoing it with the animal count anyway again.

20 habitats? Not overdoing at all , my zoo currently is aiming for 54 habitats with 38 built 🤣 of course depends on your computer and overall goal with the zoo.

Computer is fine with more. For the other park there are 40+ habitats planned.
But yeah, you're right, I'll add the third section in Unity as well. Hoooopefully I'll stick with the zoo this time around.

Following my own mantra, i saw all those unfinished habitats and areas and thought to my self, hey lets make THIS empty spot a bit prettier and it might have been my frustration and me looking at ducks again yesterday for the spring discussion that i turned a small area that propaply would only be decorative into a little duck pond and i gotta say, i love it.
Propaply the best full habitat - signage i build in just about an hour.

The pond is next to the otter and emu habitats, connecting to the bridge path of the otters. Thanks to the repurpose of the otter bamboo fence and the prariedogs shelter it was finished in no time.

Following the lower path you get a clear view of the current test inhabitants, 2 flamingos and a peafowl. Thought about downloading duck building pieces from the workshop but decided against it as i want everything in this zoo to be my creation.
pon1.jpeg

The upper path will either allign at the left here, but eh not so sure about that yet, gonna build the other side first and look further then.
pond.jpeg

The upper path will be cozy and shadowey, with me straight up not knowing what will be on the other side, maybe caracals, maybe reindeer, maybe something completly difference, maybe okapis actually, thatd be pretty cool i might do that, but the real kicker up here is...
pond4.jpeg

This.
This might be one of my favorite viewing points of the zoo so far and its for a damn duck habitat.
This view will only become prettier as time moves on and i will decorate the wallaby and emu habitat aswell build things behind them but still im just loving this view.
pond2.jpeg

And it also looks great from the other side aswell!
Where before only was green nothing we finally started adding some layers to the zoo, which i love.

So yeah, thats it from me again, i really hope we will get a pretty duck soon like the baikal teal, white faced whistling duck, red shoveler, mandarine duck or really just any duck so that my duck pond can be inhabited by the right guys, even if the flamingos feel way less out of place then i thought.
Man if frontier wants me happy, the spring dlc will come packed with a duck and a monkey. If i see this combination in the reveal trailer i dont care what else is in the pack honestly.
