Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Were people really saying the Przewalski's horse was just a horse? Man.
A lot of people. I've seen a very upvoted comment on instagram after the pack was announced on the lines of "a horse, an antelope reskin, a jaguar reskin, and s cool monkey". If this view is prevalent it might explain the relative lower popularity of the conservation pack.

These would probably be the same people who no doubt would think the Tasmanian Devil was a large rat, the Wolverine a Binturong subspecies/reskin, the Kiwi be a grazzing ball reskin and I shudder to think what they'd think of any of the 3 suidae species from our recent discussion.

These are the same people who hat the raccoon for being stupid roadkill even though it's imo the most exotic NA animal. I can't stop laughing about Kiwi as a grazing ball reskin though.

I love the Conservation Pack roster, yet i also think the Twilight Pack is the worst DLC and other than the wombat and the bat is all full of boring animal choices. The raccoon was like in the bottom of my wishlists. I have to accept that the design and animations are cool, but is not an animal is see myself using much in my zoos.

So the two mindsets are not mutually exclusive

(and as a note, i'm not from NA so i don't see raccoons all the time nor i find them like roadkill, but i still think they are pretty mundane animal and not at all exotic)

I think that Twilight pack would be much more fun and attractive with NA porcupine instead of a skunk.
Don’t get me wrong. I love skunk but it would be much better in a different pack in my opinion. Yet we can turn back the time so we need to live with what we have.
I think that every pack has something special in it. The one that is now mediocre for me is the deluxe but only because it contains only 3 animals. It would be so much better with 4.

Look guys, let's be honest, the bats were lame. Flying rats with wings. Lame-o
The wombat is just a ground koala...
The maned wolf a fox reskin with stilts for legs...
The platypus was made up for the game...

All the packs are lame and we should only get a Malayan tiger, Indian wolf, and northern cassowary, 3 key animals. Duh...

All joking aside, I never consider raccoons and armadillos roadkill, despite seeing them more often as roadkill than alive, unfortunately. But, I consider every animal added valuable (except for you, HBB. You know what you did)

To be fair, the raccoon's status is very regional. Raccoons in the US are generally a pest.

For a european it would be like getting a sewer rat as an animal.

For another comparison, as an Israeli I'm not sure how I'd feel about the Hyrax as a habitat animal as they are more of a "steal your food in a picnic" type animal more than a zoo animal here, but I'm sure for everyone else they'd be super exotic.

Yeah but raccons are pretty popular and decently common zoo animals outside of NA. Also came across multiple Skunks in german zoos.

IMO the Twilight pack would have been better received if they split it into two packs. The roster just feels kinda weird, like they couldnt deceide between a temperate woodland and a nocturnal pack and mashed them both together. I dont really know how to descripe it but the wombat feels somewhat out of place :)

I think there's a strange human instinct to dismiss familar animals as common and unnoteworthy, when, unfortunately, the worst extinction stories often happen with animal like the thylacine or passenger pigeon which are seen as common and unworthy of or not needing conservation.

I also think hyrax would be super run to build for.

I know Northern Cassowary is a bit of reskin but consider this. Dwarf casswary. I've seen one irl and it tried to kill but there so adorable. Not saying their essential. God no. But I feel like they would be pretty cool.

When will the release of the new DLC be announced???

Will it be in 2/3 weeks?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new DLC will be about.

Frankly the announcement of the update I would say not before March 28th. And the announcement of the DLC is not before March 29. And the complete release of the DLC and the update is not before April 11th but I hope rather.

Me too I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new DLC will be about.

Been thinking of another 'theme' for the next pack and whilst there is overlap (can't be helped) I think there is potential (and the thread has been going round in circles)

So introducing the 'Re-Wild Pack'

Whilst this may overlap with the conservation pack, the focus would be on species that are part of ongoing projects to reintroduce species to places where they haven't been seen for generations, or are considered successful.

Not including free flying birds and reptiles options at the top of my head include....
Europe - Eurasian Brown Bear, European Bison, Eurasian Hamster and the White Stork
For Africa - Addax, Black Rhino
Asia - Gaur, Pere David's Deer, Pygmy Hogs, Lar Gibbon
Middle East - Arabian Oryx, Persian Onager
North America - Black footed ferret, Nene, Blanding's Turtle, Red Wolf?
Oceania - Tasmanian Devil
South America - best examples i could think of were the tamarins in the Atlantic forest that are stuck in isolated pockets of forest and re-wilding programmes in Brazil to regrow natural corridors.

Of those I would select
Tasmanian Devil
Pere David's Deer
White Stork
Pygmy Hog
3 species of Lion Tamarin - Golden, Golden-headed and Black (golden rump)
Black Rhino (animal pack)
Lar Gibbon (animal pack)
Black footed Ferret (animal pack)

Besides the tamarins being exhibit animals, thats a really cool idear. For scenery it could bring some plants that either are often used in regrowing forests or activly being rewilded themself, aswell as a scenery theme focused either around education or the act of rewilding itself, with the pipe dream being a theme about the reasons why animals died out in the first place. Having items for education sections about poaching, habitat destruction and some more general purpose tools would be great

The other day talking with Narwhaler, he said something right, the game and zoos are focused in conservation. Farms are not in the conservation side. Also like you guys said, people would be mad for a simple goat, people though przewalski horse was just a mere horse, when its different.
About dlc release...remember frontier usually releases the dlc the same week easter. Between 28 march and 4th april we will know something.
