Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hmm. My sound is a little different from when it was using Win 10. It's not bad in any way and works perfectly - it just sounds different and I can't put my finger on it. Very subtle - some voices are quieter, as are footsteps (I'm talking about ED here :D ) . I'm using one of these so I may have to faff around in here:

Quite why somethign changed I have no idea. You just have to love Microsoft.

Just did an on-foot mission and it's all looking OK - so far, I can't (apart from the sound) detect any differences. Yet.

Next up: I need to get tweaking Win 11.
Do you actually use headphones or do you have speakers?

Check the Windows sound settings and make sure it hasn't changed the default output device and speaker type. (Right click the speaker on the task bar and hit Sound Settings)

My travel map, for what it's worth. I've been a few places, I guess. Sag A*, Colonia, the Zurara. Mostly I've just wandered, though.

I thought the surface maps were rendered based on current time and meant to keep up with orbital rotation, but i still find it best to pick the suit when i’m packing eBreaches and have a closer view of the site …or just stick to one with both mods (NV & ET) if i’m feeling cruisey and can’t be bothered with the extra fuss ;p
There are a few variables in play that make the prediction if you're in the light or in the dark a lttle more difficult to do:
1. The distance between the station and the actual place of the mission (mainly the time it takes to get there) and
2. the rotation speed of the body your settlement is on.

I bought a new PC with Windows 11 installed just a few months after it came out and it had quite a few bugs, but seems to work very well for me now. Seems that whenever a new Windows version is released it's a bit like one of those "early access" games and they depend on the worldwide user community to report all the nonsense that crops up.
Well, with all those different combinations of hardware (of which some don't work as well as others) out there, it is quite impossible to get all the possible bugs ironed out from the getgo. Some only just pop up in the field. And the interaction with third party software is another issue even a large company can't test out in its entirety due to the large amount of software available...
Well, they could test all this, but then Windows would cost about 10k grand per user license... And MS would be by far the largest company on this planet.

So, to get prismatic shields, is this still valid?

Pledge to Aisling Duval, do nothing for 4 weeks, then go to a rival's controlled system day before the system tic on Thursday (the exact time varies by time zone but the game time is the same around 1300), kill their operatives until you get 750 merit points before the tic.

Go to a Duval control system, cash in your merits, again before the tic.

You will be at level 3, buy all the Prismatics you want.

Wait till the next tic to leave Duval if you want so you can collect the Power payout.

Be aware you will collect wanted bounties for killing the NPC's, just pay them off at a low security system interstellar factor.

I use headphones. I've checked all the settings - it's just a subtle difference in the way things sound. I think what happened is that Win11 sort of reset my settings in Sonic Studio (my soundcard software) so it'll be just a matter of tiny tweakages.

Any metallic rings for juicy Lucy platinum hotspots?
Only Monazite and other a few other rares in the one i scanned - wasn't paying too much attention as i'm mainly looking for exobio & water worlds atm - i seem to be in a rather barren corner side street of the galaxy as i've only found Pumpkins & Pancakes since heading out this way ;p

*quite a few planets / moons with volcanic activity for feeding the raw mats cravings though...

**ahh... still no signs of life, but this ringed thing orbiting another looks like a nice place to stop for yet another photo shoot... ;]

The ringed landable is disappointingly far from the ringed giant ...but seem to have stumbled upon a nest of buzzing things - i wonder what's up here? :]

*plz excuse the uncurbed journal-enthusiasm but i'm really enjoying the 20x speed-up from half-dead ADSL to fresh Fibre ;]

I considered getting the Prismatic Shield, but everything I read about it said it wasn't worth it - that even though they're tough, you basically have to dock to recharge them because even with engineering it can take upwards of 5 to 10 minutes for them to recharge to 100%.

"Everything" you read about it is mostly from people who doesn't know how to use them.

If they were only trying to take on the ships I down with a weaker shield they wouldn't last, the all point of Prismatic is resilience, you can kill your target before your shield go down, especially useful when you take on a wing of 2, 3 or more, then use a shield cell bank to get it back up when needed.

I used it on the Corvette in assassination missions and there is no contest, at one point I was pitted vs 5 ships (4 in the video), the target Fer-de-Lance, two Vulture escort, and a couple of Mercenary Anacondas (1 interdicted me before the target area), and they are a lot harder to kill than the usual bounty target.

The only structural damage I suffered was from overheating because my laser had a hard time locking-on target but with a normal shield I would have ran out of shield cells way before I could have killed the third one.

What I do is to keep the fire page on with the shield cell bank ready to go and par it with the laser which contribute to keep it cool, with the Krait, it is a lot easier to hit a target with lasers, since there are two of them and they are close to center line as well, I use 2 X 2D Beam Laser [Fixed] XXXXX Long range Thermal Vent.

Also, to keep power supply in its margin, I disable one shield cell bank, then change from one to the second one when empty, it's a bit trickier in a fight but possible when you're used to navigate your pages.

No problem there, the only thing is to be sure you manage your shield levels and use the shield cell before the shield goes down too low, in this video, I took it just in time, better do it a bit earlier.

My Krait MKII shield is 6A Prismatic Shield Generator XXXXX Thermal resistant.

2 X 5D Guardian Shield Reinforcement.

2 X 2A X Shield Cell Bank Specialised.
Specialised Shield Cell Bank is an engineer modification that can be applied to Shield Cell Banks. It decreases boot time and thermal load, and increases shield reinforcement, at the cost of reduced integrity and increased power draw.

(Edit) > I'm going to improve on the Krait MKII shield cell banks by fitting 2 X 3A Shield Cell Bank Specialised and mount a 4D Module Reinforcement Package (or perhaps a 4D Guardian Module Reinforcement Package since I still have loads of power on tap).

For the shield strength I have 1,081 Mj on the Krait and 2,585 Mj on the Corvette.
Surcouf
