Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oh my, I'm just picturing how many millions of player placeable entities Starfield will support - a cheesewheel mountain on a distant planet!
Yeah? Star Citisnt doesnt even have a star.
I GOT GRIEFED!!!!

lol

exceedingly rare that i am successfully killed. playing on laptop on couch with sound off isnt great for situational awareness.
I'm sure you'll manage. Such things happen sometimes.

You're confusing/conflating servers and saves, and also assuming that 'entities' are comparable between games and engines.

E.g. I have iro 40 bases in NMS. If I've used 3,000 parts per base, then one SC server is already 20% full. Room for another four commandos to play. But this is comparing apples to pears and fully functioning game mechanics to plans. It's therefore pointless.
I confuse nothing, NMS seems to use a mix of instances tied to personnal saves for multiplayer. The max of your personnal save is the max of the multiplayer instance.
When you have at max 16,000 parts in one planet (if all your bases are only on one planet) in NMS, it's 3.2% of what a SC server managed BEFORE 3.18. It's a lot more now.
"fully functioning game mechanics" ? The mix personnal save/instance seems not to be a good mix.

Something to keep in mind no one has mentioned, if you and this friend make a base together, but, say you keep building when they go and log out, more times than not, this messes up your base up badly if you used the terrain tool as their save will have the terrain untouched, while yours has it flattened etc. It glitches reallyyyy badly. Even if both of you upload base data.

The game tries to basically load both versions of the save, one with untouched terrain, and the modified terrain

Be sure both players are “at” the base and online before either person even touches the terrain tool.

Out in the world its fine and no big deal, but using it at base if only one of you is online messes things up super bad, it becomes extremely apparent the bigger you build your base. One of mine is completely fine until she logs in, once she does i have mountains in about 50% of my base, and re flattening them doesnt help, they pop back in 10 minutes later, sometimes less.

I would try to just stick to land already flat in all scenarios honestly. If you have to use the tool to flatten terrain its not a good base idea in NMS

As an aside, when was base building going to be in-game in SC? Have they shown how it works? Have they finalised how land-claims work? Have they stopped selling 'land claims'? Has the penny dropped yet?
After stable PES, server meshing and beta I guess, because you can't do base building without PES and SM.

No, you actually confuse a lot.

I took your words at face value, which was perhaps my schoolboy error.

Problems always stem from comparing apples with imagined pears. NMS/Valheim have working and mature base building in fully released multi-player on-line games. All I've easily/been bothered to find is this peice of (very good looking) pure theory-crafting which broadly states 'we don't know' (as best I could unpick the enthiastic chaff).

You can at least spent a 100 bucks on a non-existing plot of land on a non-existing moon or something to that effect ;) Unlike those other silly games, where you can freely build anywhere you want. So unrealistic!

(Or you could, not sure if they still sell them)

Yes. Kinda my point too.
I also like to compare tomatoes to wheel nuts and claim tomatoes are therefore better.
Ditto.

But, not to worry, some word spaghetti will soon put us 'right'.
