Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

After many months of testing, and after the disastrous release of the patch to Live, in 14 days they have not only not fixed any of the known problems for patch x.x.1 (let's not forget, again for the PTU), but they have modified one of the problems and added a couple more...
I really hope we get a mole some day on this most transparent of game development projects who leaks what day-to-day looks like inside their madhouse, or something telling like daily commit logs. Hundreds of employees yet output with the exception of the jpeg pipeline seems lower than 1 employee.

  • Rented ships disappear from the ASOP list when Stored until terminal is reopened
  • Game clients may close without error or crash handler
  • Harvestable Deposits may be invisible to players, cause collisions or become unavailable for scanning, mining or salvage gameplay
  • The Trams are out of sync with the station timers, causing trams to overlap or not appear on time
  • Elevators and Trams are "Jittery" during transit of Player Character
  • When flying near another ship, ship seems to hit an invisible box that kicks it in random directions
  • Reclaimer main on-elevator control panels do not respond to input
  • Cargo may be invisible in multiple ships after being purchased
  • Unable to view ships inventory through NikNax
  • When attempting to start a refinery job, players receive the following error ; Something went wrong (Error code: 20)

  • Security Work Assesment Remaining Hostile NPCs Not Spawning In
  • PTV wheels at the Orison BTR area can clip into geometry and become detached from vehicle
  • The snub fighter attached to Constellations lacks interaction prompts to enter it, making it unusable
  • Some ship wreckage erroneously give "No Material" text and do not let you salvage
  • Markers Will Randomly Disappear After Quantum Travel With No Route Set
  • The NPC Coffee Vendor is missing from the various 'Coffee To Go' stalls located throughout Stanton

After many months on PTU testing, and after the disastrous release of the patch to Live with people for days without even being able to access the game, in 14 days this is all the progress with the Known Issues for patch x.x.1 (let's not forget, again for PTU); they have "fix" 2 of them and added 3 new ones.

And what's new in this patch?

Feature Updates
  • Initial Ship Delivery (A quick trick to try to mitigate problems with server requests)
  • Arena Commander Customization Temporarily Disabled (Disable a function of the Arena Commander)

And for these changes, these tremendous changes, they have to create again a new PTU and not introduce them in Live version... I guess they don't want to touch Live as it is now in order not to " ruin " it...

And there are still people who every day try to convince me that the 3.18 (and now the 3.18.1) runs great, is stable, runs at 120 fps on 4k and everything is perfect.

Of course it is.
Plus, if only that list was the actual complete list of all the issues...

Something definitely does not add up, and it is not just the finances.

Aaah crap… so we are not clones but rather printed copies?

Someone at CIG is watching too much Netflix…

I’ll answer your question… if all the crew dies then:

"Womb, a 3D biological printer creates a exploration team one individual at a time to man spacecraft.”

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT CLICK THE LINK OR CONTINUE READING IF YOU ARE SENSIBLE TO SPOILERS

ref: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exception_(TV_series)

If I recall correctly, in that anime series they need fresh DNA sample to generate enough material to print the body in a timely manner and, IIRC please don’t quote me on this since its been a long time since I watched that one season show, they can print another body in the event that no fresh DNA is available (like total loss of current body) but it would require growing new cells and what not… which takes considerably longer time than “recycling” part of the current body.

Basically Womb can autonomously print the crew one by one in the event all of them are dead (in fact that’s how the show start and the main plot revolves around this capability)

Edit: The range limitation seem to be arbitrary, unless they want to be creative with consciousness transfer… like saying the less capable bed doesn’t have enough storage to hold a copy of your character’s consciousness so, in the event of dead, it needs to be transferred via short range local-link? but that’s a can of worms specially if you consider caves and scenarios where comms are blocked
My initial thought was they got the idea from EVE online. In EVE the quality fo clones affect how much skills you retain after death.

Seems to me feture updates in SC are more of a patch fix for on going issues rather than any real features.

Real question, does SC have any wildlife?

edit: holy mother of god, I forgot EVE online is 20 years old. Now that's a game players are truely invested in.

Well if that's the case (which it really seems to be) then fix things, right? because they've barely fixed anything in 14 days...

And if you fix things, after months of PTU, fix things directly in Live.... do they have so little confidence in their own patches that they have to release a fixes-only update in PTU?

I'm sorry, but it sounds a bit like cowardice to me, or they are taking a shot in the dark.

Well, there are two main explanations for why they have used PTU for 3.18.1: Either they do not know what they are doing and realistically fear that 3.18.1 can break things even more (if that is even possible), or the given justification to launch 3.18 in Live (namely that they needed more people trying it out so to collect data) was utter cattle biowaste. Neither looks particularly attractive.

Prison PES testing - I don't like the bugs, but the bugs like me...

Previously - Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/120dxf0/prison_pes_testing_vehicle_limits/

Off to a great start after logging in to find someone left the thermostat a little too high in the cell...

Little too warm in here.

During the previous session I opted to leave some supplies to make getting past the trip mines a bit easier... This process was made all the more annoying by the inventory issues, which even managed to yeet a multitool back onto a corpse (which i tried to use as storage once I'd had enough trying to drop things) with a nice highlight around it.

Trying to drop things is a hassle

Which brings us back to the present-time. After the tough start we make it to the trip mines and although our lovely storage corpse is missing it seems the important things are still here to help us avoid those glitchy s.

Leaving tools to remove glitchy trip-mines is now viable... Thanks PES!

Free of the prison we make our way to the Ruto mission Cutty... Unfortunately there's a lack of oxygen and the inventory chooses the best possible time to screw us over.

The frustration begins

Not willing to give up, it's straight back for round 2 and everything seems to be going to plan. The oxypens work, the medpens work... All except 1, within sniffing distance of safety. There also now seems to be 2 ships spawned. An issue which became quite troublesome during the PTU https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-60821

So close, yet so far away

There's more to this story, but I'm just now finding out reddit only allows 5 videos so I might just have to make another post some other time to finish it. Thanks for reading/watching, let's hope the patches fix most of these inventory bugs so we can dump more rubbish around Stanton (and beyond.)

I liked the auto-cooked intro. 'Physicalised' duplicating ships seem to be new too... (Probably mission duplication in this case though).

It is more the "known issues" from march 11th that arent on any known issue list.

The patch complete choked when deployed to live and fell on its face.

It is much better now than it was originally.

My initial thought was they got the idea from EVE online. In EVE the quality fo clones affect how much skills you retain after death.

Could be, after all CR have praised Eve online before… but in Eve clones’ bodies are not “printed”… clone production takes months and the final product is stored until bought by a customer.

In the anime show I mentioned, the body is literally “printed” on demand (IIRC) and takes few hours only and doesn’t include consciousness transfer from old clone to the new one…

Edit: removed off-topic comment

Strangely enough...even though I get blamed for most things...I had nothing to do with it

Only flora, not fauna. There were turtles at some point but these seemed manually placed by devs.
The turtles...or tortoises if you're European...were at a particular food vendor stall in area 18 for quite some time. They were in boxes or trays around the food stall, presumably to be cooked and sold as 'crusty pies'. They were animated and would crawl around if set free.

There was emergent gameplay generated through a 'Rescue the turtles' effort for quite a few patches prior to 3.15 when they mysteriously all vanished. Folk would grab one and keep it as a temporary pet in their ships (before PES obviously so they vanished if you stored the ship) or set them free somewhere else.

I always picked up a few of them when visiting area 18 back then to repatriate and set loose in one of the green areas on Microtech...named them all Bob :)

It's not a fix, they had rewriten almost all the ASOP mechanic for 3.18.1. It's a patch dedicated to it.
