Eventually make sure you are subscribed to their news and announcement lists.

It's very likely to be on Discovery Scanner when they decide, it's often mentioned there, as it was today, no news I am afraid, just more waiting.

What I dont understand is EVERY PC commander was changed from the Legacy to new system when it went live in November; therefore, the coding is there. Just transfer/copy a legacy console to the legacy PC then legacy PC to Live PC. It is just a 2 step process. Just frontier wanting people to re-buy the game and buy more ARX, all about greed.

No, the legacy database is now out of date, a straight copy wouldn't work, they did it for PC players because Horizons exists in both Legacy and Live on PC, but there is no Live on consoles, no doubt they directly copied the PC Legacy Horizons database before any changes were made that caused it to be different to the Legacy database. There's also the issue of ownership of certain assets purchased through the Xbox account, the two things are not identical.

As far as FDEV wanting people to re-buy the game, they gave everyone the opportunity to move across and gifted everyone a free copy of Horizons on PC AND let them keep their copy running on console, so they have already given a free game to players who took advantage of it at the time. When transfer is re-intitiated you will still get that free copy of Horizons so this is hardly about making money.

When they switched base code in update 14, all of the Legacy PC accounts were copied to a new database (server) and then updated for the new system. The difference is for PC, it was done autonomously and players did not have to do anything. Console players had to initiate a copy to make a duplicate on the PC, then the exact same process was initiated updating it to update 14.

They also copied console accounts to PC before, its not an issue with ownership; they did it before and it worked just fine. Certain things were not transferred, like ARX balance and a few others, but the process was relatively complete. The copy process is the same going from Legacy console to Legacy PC, exactly the same as it was before.

Only issue there may be, are bugs. When they first released the update, it had bugs. If they changed/updated the base code to fix these bugs, I can see there being an issue if there are discrepancies between the original code and the updated/fixed code. This would be an issue from Legacy PC to Live PC transfer, not an issue from Legacy Console to Legacy PC.

I would be (and many other people would be as well) thrilled if they even just did a Legacy Console to Legacy PC transfer in the interim while they sorted out the code discrepancies between Legacy PC and Live PC.

I must have missed the post saying we would get a free copy when the copy is reinitialized. I know they did originally, but did not see it posted when they reinitialize the copy process.

They created a process that transferred cmdr accounts from console to pc, within the very same galaxy. An automated process.
Now the premise changed, the move is from a legacy galaxy to a live galaxy. There are probably changes at cmdr save level, plus peculiar things like discoveries in legacy that probably wont be transferable in Live.
So they need to review the process, test, etc.

I would assume this take time and resources (dev time, qa time, etc)... and the resources seem scarce lately in Elite.

I used to be PS4 but made the transfer in Sept, then got on GeforceNow in October just to see it and was amazed it ran on 2015 laptop.
I bought Sheild TV and use my DS4 controller (all required keys now mapped) in lounge with just the controller and TV - Sheild is silent and is tucked out of the way.
I really couldn't stand having a PC, table, chair, keyboard, mouse and controller (with HDMI cable to TV instead of small monitor) - nah nah nah.

Transfers open up in April

Thanks, hopefully the Frontier communication issue has been permanently resolved - will anticipate another missive by the end of the month.

I received that first email on 10th Feb (Newsletter #355), then another landed without incident on 24th Feb (#356). I haven't received anything since, can I just ask if anyone has received additional newsletters? I'll raise another ticket with Customer Support if so.

Checked your spam / junk folders?

Pretty sure it's a problem Frontier's end. I got my initial email from them when I bought the PS4 version in March 2022, then nothing after that - I would have missed the console transfer window last year if I hadn't been checking these forums. I didn't even realise newsletters were being emailed out to everyone - I contacted their customer support back in February and they did some kind of fix, and I then got the next two newsletters (which arrived OK, didn't get classed as junk). Nothing has arrived since 24th Feb though, so if the rest of you are still getting them I suspect I've been dropped off the list again.

Not at all, thanks @GraphiteGB. I've raised a ticket with Customer Service today anyway and they are going to have another poke around.

Nine wont sign me up no matter how many times I try. Slightly frustrating. But then we know its coming April. Fingers crossed it will be early in the month
